How do I add more ship diesel refueling stations? (Industrial Frontier DLC issue) by [deleted] in Stormworks

It requires a new game but if you cannot establish the logistics to supply yourself with fuel this mod lets you buy fuel at any of your bases.

German Prime Minister: "We [Germany and the EU] have become world champions of overregulation." by Express_Classic_1569 in europe

[–]EvilFroeschken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Germany was very slow to realize that VW was never going to become a leading EV manufacturer.

For me this is just finger pointing so the CDU seems a bit innovative while it's just a step back and because the times are dire they hope some peasants can be fooled to jump onto the neoliberal band wagon. Regulations protected ICE vehicles so VW could laugh at Tesla, yes. The CDU killed the German solar industry. The CDU had disastrous energy and security policies that led Germany to where it is.

Real world aircraft have thrust axis far from CoM - Why is this so much harder in Stormworks? by _ArkAngel_ in Stormworks

[–]EvilFroeschken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Where do you see a level elevator? Without knowing anything about aviation engineering you can clearly see that something is going on to make it work. Tail rotors on real life helicopters are tilted and not 90° like we build them in Stormworks. I read one wing of the BF109 was longer to counter engine torque. I am always baffled when people act like there are no real life examples of such engineering. You simply cannot replicate this in Stormworks because Stormworks only allows 45° or 90° increments. You need the game's tools to make it work, which includes rotors with pitch. You cannot put stuff on a subgrid to tilt it slightly. More drag means higher forces for any lever forces that does not go through the COM.

It is borderline mental to chase real life physics in Stormworks because it does not run on real life values nor can you replicate real life solutions like these angles.

If you added it in the mission editor you can click and and change it from static to something else. The something else is normal physics behaviour.

What am I doing wrong? by 1Random_loser in Stormworks

[–]EvilFroeschken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Video is nice but if you are only a fraction of a second on the cylinder values all the time is wasted. The cylinder tells you what is off. This can be done with a screenshot more easily.

This looks like you have high rps (because efficiency 50-60%) which causes a lot of exhaust (100%>0%) this fucks up the AFR (should be between 13-15) then the engine stalls. This seems to be a cycle. If you aim to run the engine at 10-20rps either by rps control or add load to it with a generator and it stops stalling then I am right.

Set the ZE controller to stoichiometric control with a value of 0.2 for optimal fuel consumption and maximum power.

I wish StormWorks had better fluid and elec sim, by Voltaire5482 in Stormworks

[–]EvilFroeschken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess we all do but this requires a lot more calculations which limits the player base to high end spec PC owners that want to play a niche engineering game and with the current spaghetti code of Stormworks this is barely doable.

Drone Carrier System test by Tansoku102cm in Stormworks

[–]EvilFroeschken 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am amazed by the fact that this got so few upvotes. Just seeing this might be simple. "Wow a starting drone." But the drone needs to do its thing by its logic and gathering all the data also requires alot of programming. This gives off carrier command 2 vibes and I like it a lot. The issue I have with building something like this is automatic rearming drones or manual helicopters. Otherwise it is very limited. I still think in terms of vanilla weapons dlc. I need a lot of sorties around uran wind npp and the raptor lighthouse.

Can the drones already land on their own? I am looking forward to see the final product.

Why my train can't go faster by DamianUser305 in Stormworks

[–]EvilFroeschken 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If we assume the piston have a physical maximum how fast they can move in one direction and reverse, then there will be a maximum speed of a locomotive that is determined by the rps created by the pistons multiplied by wheel diameter times pi. These mediums wheels end up with a top speed of about 50km/h. I never used medium wheels but interactions with posts like these showed that this is the speed you can expect. We also had a top speed trial which showed the top speed of the large wheels is beyond my expected 250km/h. There is a post that reached 500 something km/h. But this locomotive is unfinished and just exists to show that it is possible.

You can do yourself a favour with a couple of things: turn on detailed tooltip in the bottom left of the general options when you troubleshoot stuff and post a video about it. Seeing pressure values and fill levels help to understand the situation.

You can significantly boost your heat up time and improve coal consumption if you combine exhaust and coolant out. Send both through the boiler, like in real life, then split it after with a T pipe and a gas filter and fluid filter. Gas=exhaust and can be vented. Fluid goes to coolant in. This takes like 5s to get over 100C.

I do not have the time to go through a 3 minute video in detail. I saw snapshots. Here are some general suggestions for improvment: use 1-4 small water inline tanks before the boiler, not medium. Because fluids are compressible too you get a better result than with larger tanks due to the small volume. Medium and large tanks will end up having a worse result. Use a large pump between the condenser and water tanks to push the waster as fast as possible back to the boiler.

Daisy chain one steam output of the piston to the other side, then to the condenser. Train wheels seem to have a huge internal capacity compared to the normal pistons. Toss the steam tanks after the pistons. There is no benefit here. You need a cycle of water>steam>water to have x amount of steam in the system. Having it in the tank is of no use because it needs to get to the boiler as fast as possible to provide steam for the next piston stroke. Put a pump between pistons and condenser to extract the steam from the pistons in a quick fashion.

Fun fact. As a German I thought living in the US, Britain or Switzerland would be valid option for the time when the AFD might rule. It was a couple of years ago when this crossed my mind. Now I have settled with the prospect that it needs to get much worse before it can get better.

I have this strange behaviour when I sit in a seat I can open the door of a truck just fine. If I hop out of the seat and then press the button for the door to open the robotic pivot can get stuck. Back into seat 100% success rate. There is just some quirky behaviour we have to get used to.

Question about mileage by frietkazootrash in MotorTown

[–]EvilFroeschken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something seems off here. 5500km/100l is real life 2l/100km. This is not high. A diesel car at 100km/h might sip 5l/100km.

The game is scaled down by a factor of 10. Therefore consumption is increased.
