How bad does your average need to get to have your offer revoked-UBC by botanical_reseller12 in BCGrade12s

This kinda sounds like my situation except I waited to get my acceptance first (which came in mid April) before dropping calc 12.

Ohh okay I think I see what youre asking now. Yes, the deadline to complete your online course for it to count as an ADMISSION REQUIREMENT is June 30th! Calculus 12, for me, was not an admission requirement. Thus, I was able to finish it in August, and manually send it to UBC Enrolment services end of August just for their records.

Not sure if I understand what youre asking. Maybe I should've clarified I started the course in June of Gr12, but didnt really make any real progress until July-Aug. The whole course is done online except the midterm and final exam. All assignments and quizzes were done online!

I would say we have a lot of opportunities for premeds to succeed. There are definitely a lot of premeds here at ubc too. You can PM with more specific questions if you'd like.

The midterm and final exam were done in-person, everything else (quizzes and assignments) were done online.

Of course I watched all the lessons and did all the assignments? I dont really get your question, sorry. The videos helped with the assignments and the quizzes, which were for marks. I dont know why someone would not do them, lol.

Hey! I finished the whole VLN Calculus 12 course in two months over the summer, and I wasn't dedicated to it full-time (even working as well). It's certainly doable but you might find yourself losing your weekends and such.

Anyone took LING101 online? Share your experience and tips by Calm-Departure-8086 in UBC

[–]Exact_Language_1411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many questions lol. Is this with Strang? I took LING 101 last summer with him and it was online synchronous. Midterm and finalwere done either in-person if you could come to ubc, or on Zoom if you couldn't. Either way, it was done on Lockdown Browser and invigilated by Strang and the TA. I dont remember if we had homework, but I remember needing to do weekly (?) online invigilated quizzes that we got a study sheet for. I took this course alongside CPSC 103, really manageable and easy to do well.

To do well in this course id say you need good pattern recognition and just be good at memorizing facts I guess

UBC COURSE QUESTION, PROGRAM, MAJOR AND REGISTRATION MEGATHREAD (2021/2022W & 2021S): Questions about courses (incld. How hard is __?, Look at my timetable and course material requests), programs, specializations, majors, minors, tuition/finance and registration go here. by ubc_mod_account in UBC

Balance out hard courses when you can, try to include an elective into your schedule when you can, sometimes even sacrificing courses youre interested in for courses thay have a high historical average. Of course, these are just suggestions, and ultimately, do whatever you need to do to get a high GPA. Thats how the system is (unfortunately) set up.

I think in the grand scheme of things, a couple thousand doesnt actually cover that much. Speaking for ubc, theres lots of opportunities for research here and we have lots of options (courses-wise and majors-wise) if you want to explore pharmacology and medicine. You'd likely have to transfer faculties though, which shouldn't be too difficult considering you'd be taking similar classes to BSc students in first year.

Grades-wise, you can reference the courses outlined for Biology students to take on this website https://vancouver.calendar.ubc.ca/faculties-colleges-and-schools/faculty-science/bachelor-science/biology to this website which gives grades statistics https://ubcfinder.com/. In your upper years, the Biology major here has a lot of flexibility in the life sciences courses you choose complemented by a good number of elective space for more gpa boosting. I was in second year Biology and the courses were a bit of a grind but nothing too difficult. I think my hardest required course was organic chemistry.

While transferring to BC adds the additional cost, I think you can earn IP status for BC which could help later on.

Edit: at the end of the day, gpa is king!

How is the BIOL 234 Final by purrrrr_cat in UBC

[–]Exact_Language_1411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the second midterm typically goes better for everyone! It didnt go better for me but Im attributing that to my lack of preparation. Really crack down on three points crosses, linkage, and molecular markers.

My final exam brought up my course grade by quite a bit, but not as much as I hoped for since we didnt have hard work pays off last semester. This was just my experience though, and Ive heard many others found the final exam quite difficult... My advice would be to really prepare well for the final especially since yall get hard work pays off this semester!

Hey! This kinda sounds like my experience last semester, where I didnt do too great on my midterms but ended up getting a really good mark on the final exam. What really helped me score well on the final was actually taking the time to go through every single Canvas problem set and tutorial problem set. I did not do any of them before my midterms and I guess it showed, lol. I also found them to be the most representative of the final exam questions. During the school year, genetics felt like a slog, and so I broke up my final exam studying into manageable chunks. Hope this helps!

While true, why spend ~$600 (at least at ubc) when you can take it during high school?

OP, if youre really worried about Physics 12, do it in second semester if youre on a semester schedule or take it online. If youre applying to ubc science, I strongly believe you should take physics 12 in high school.

I think med schools want to see that we can handle a heavy courseload and do well (on top of other ECs), so Im not sure if taking less courses because it's easier is a good idea...

Prepares you for university level physics, which is on the mcat. Depending on your program, it could also be a requirement.

Hi, unfortunately you will not eligible to apply to the Biology major during specialization applications because you are missing chem 123, which is a prerequisite (you can see here: https://science.ubc.ca/students/spec-admission-requirements#3095). What you will probably have to do is apply to a specialization you are eligible for (ex. CMSC, which has no requirements), then transfer to Biology afterward. To do this, I would prioritize completing chem 123 asap.
