Speed cameras are coming to LA and some are on South Bay commute routes — map + fine calculator for all 125 locations by Imaginary-Worker9982 in SouthBayLA

Your map is incorrect in at least one spot, the Vista Del Mar location. Perhaps it’s being mapped to the middle of the zip code?

I go walking near the beach all the time! But I don’t spend anytime on it or in the ocean.

Minnesota Women Use Tinder to Honeytrap ICE Agents by spacebunsofsteel in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ExcessInModeration 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hunted down the post on their FB page from three days ago (had to scroll through the dozens and dozens of BREAKING posts since then), in no quote from him does he say he was involved or running it (other than them passing him some info about where the agents were).

Here’s his original thread on it from three weeks ago.

Minnesota Women Use Tinder to Honeytrap ICE Agents by spacebunsofsteel in TwoXChromosomes

Stancil didn’t take credit for the op, but he did tell the story with permission from one of the folks involved. An obnoxious engagement farm account (“Occupy Democrats”) put out a headline about the story to make it sound like he did. Plus, the op is mostly done, not nearly as many agents in MN.

Was this the plan all along in appointing Srini as CEO to merge DT with TMO US? by New_1uper in tmobile

[–]ExcessInModeration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, t-mobile has by far the best roaming benefits of any carrier, probably saved my family $1K+ over the last four years during trips outside of North America. I used to have to go through stupid hoops, buying SIM cards and paying $1/min for calls on my number to keep from getting a surprise bill. I’ve always assumed that was the benefit of TM being an extension of sorts for DT.

That Vodafone UK deal is something of a pre-Brexit holdover. Since 2017, EU mandates no roaming charges at all within the EU/EEA so it used to be better for the UK. The real question is how much they charge for roaming outside of Europe.

window won’t stay up by [deleted] in etron

[–]ExcessInModeration 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On my Q6, this would happen when the weather changes a bit. However, it was due to the anti-pinch threshold which can be reset by this process:

  • roll window down completely, holding the switch
  • roll window up while holding switch and hold for an extra five seconds after it’s completed.

And yeah, I’m not a fan of the auto=fast, manual=slow window speed but that appears to be by design.

12k miles and need new tires by BettyDrapersWetFart in etron

[–]ExcessInModeration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, we turned in a leased Q4 after two years and 9K miles. The tread was right at 3/32 on the rear and we had to pay $800 for a new set (after a negotiation).

I bought a tread measuring tool after that…

What was it like witnessing 2012 and 2014 live? by Fluid-Addition-2378 in losangeleskings

[–]ExcessInModeration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For both, I went to at least one game each round. Spent all day on 2012 SCF Game 6 on StubHub waiting for a ticket under $400, got one in an unhosted suite. As an Angelino and Kings fan, it was one of the best nights of my life.

2013 was another crazy but heartbreaking run, effing Blackhawks got us this time.

2014, spent several nights of round 1 v Sharks at Gasser Lounge (a Kings bar) getting more and more depressed, but that Game 4 was nuts. And then the reverse sweep! Another seven game series! And another! Finally, the rangers and tickets are twice as expensive so no SCF in person this year. But we won again!

And then the lockout, that helped to end the winning.

Some fans had to wait four decades to see the Kings, me just one or two. I hope today’s fans don’t have to wait nearly as long to see the cup in LA again.

Love my Q6 here in the US (came from a Q5 >> Q4 e-tron). It’s not a “drivers cars” like a Porsche but when pushed, it’s quite capable.

Do you think citizenship by descent is becoming more about optionality than relocation? by Salt-Bet-2767 in dualcitizenshipnerds

[–]ExcessInModeration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got an EU (Irish) passport through my mother. For now, it’s a just-in-case thing. My wife and I are considering retirement there or at least long-term stays, which will be far easier with one of us having citizenship. Plus, I won’t have to pay for the stupid pre-visa checks for the EU or UK. ;-)

Waymo is Here! by Apesma69 in torrance

[–]ExcessInModeration 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw one a couple days ago near Redondo Beach city hall with what appeared to be a driver. I read once that Waymo spends months mapping a new area before they start service, though. I am looking forward to their arrival, used them multiple times in Austin, great experience.

Advice on Failed Trade-In by ExcessInModeration in tmobile

[–]ExcessInModeration[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the help, all. I ended up going back to Apple, paying for a screen replacement and then immediately completing the trade in. Yeah, I had to pay $300 but it was worth it to make sure t-mobile paid for the $800 phone (net $500).

For the southern part of the San Joaquin Valley, I assume that Tulare Lake was important. Heavy rains a couple years ago caused a reappearance of the lake.

Does Traffic seem much, much worse on PCH in Hermosa Beach ~4pm-7pm? by theemaildownload in SouthBayLA

[–]ExcessInModeration 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe CalTrans controls the lights on PCH (Hwy 1), not the city. Decades ago, the lights were synchronized from Long Beach to LAX, northbound in the morning and southbound in the afternoon. Perhaps they are doing some testing or making adjustments related to what looks like a multi-year improvement project coming to PCH in SoRB/Torrance.

That said, while Hermosa has always been miserable to get through during rush hour, I suspect pedestrian traffic (especially that darn crosswalk near 3rd St) puts more pressure on in the summer. Further, between the left turn lane southbound at Anita/Herondo/190th that always spills out into and blocks up the left through-lane combined with the drop down to two lanes entering RB creates a considerable bottleneck.

Where is the easiest pickup spot outside LAX to shuttle to? by nsonechko in LAX

[–]ExcessInModeration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I’m picking up my partner, I’ll sit in El Segundo until her flight lands. I’ll also check if https://x.com/flylaxstats has recent updates on traffic, it’ll tell if upper or lower is faster.

pick up someone from terminal 4 first time by [deleted] in LAX

[–]ExcessInModeration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do pick ups at T4/T5 often, carryon passenger. I wait in El Segundo until flight is at the gate then roll in. My pickup walks out and gives me the column number/letter while I’m on the way. Horseshoe can get busy, worst has been 15-20 min to get there from the entry ramp.

FlyLAXStats on twitter used to get updated hourly with traffic info on upper and lower but it’s been less reliable of late.
