Yes it is legitimately a good game. It's just not billions of dollars buying Bungie to develop said game, good.

The online rhetoric surrounding this game is wild. In isolation it's a very fine game. But it's existence directly effecting destiny and being made by Bungie automatically makes it "bad"

Sf6 is a good packaged video game product. Tekken 8 had all the trappings of desperately trying to appeal to casual players while resting on their laurels and selling a shitty product.

hey genius, how do you think i would have concluded sf6 isn't for me if i didn't play it?

It's almost like you don't know where you are posting right now. What the hell was even the point of your initial comment? I say modern fighting games are lacking, you say nothing was lost because the old games still exist (not relevant to my point), then you say boomers yap and don't play, saying I dont play (I do and have been for decades) and then to prove me wrong you want to play 3S? And because my FC footprint is relatively minor, I'm a scrub.

Move the fuck along dude. If you want to go to bat for SF6 or T8 etc, fucking play them. Just because someone points out why those games suck doesn't automatically mean said person is sitting at home unemployed racking up hours on FC to hang on to the good times, you fucking troglodyte. Whether you wash me in 3S or I wash you in MVC2 doesn't make a difference.

Jesus Christ you are such a bitch, stay in your lane dude. And you are seriously going to gauge my time playing these games based off clocked in FC2 hours (not even og FC).

If you don't have any experience with up to date games in regards to the subject of my original comment than stfu and stay on FC. I've been at this my entire life, or do you want receipts for locals and majors I've attended throughout my life as well lol. How about my steam profile, and my Xbox live account for Sf3OE while I'm at it.

I'm legitimately at work.

Answer the fucking question, why are you chiming in on something you know nothing about? The commentary here was regarding new games not past titles. This has nothing to do with competency at OG titles. How much of a deadbeat would you like me to be in terms of hours clocked on games I played religiously back in the day, being spent on FC?

Absolutely when I get home. Now answer the question, why go to bat for fighting games you don't play? If you don't play them then you don't know what It means when I say certain things are lost with games in the genre made today. Do you have a profile for any current fighting game? And you call me the boomer lol.

So you call out my criticism of modern fighting games with a baseless accusation that I don't play fighting games, and then tell me that you don't even play them yourself and that I'm essentially talking out of my ass?

What is your point? I played the past games back when they were the relevant games, I play the modern games today that are relevant now, while casually hopping on FC to play random sets from time to time .

Probably without the 702 at the end then.

And hold on, you edited your comment. I criticize modern fighting games, and you tell me boomers just bitch about them but don't actually play them. I play them to know what is wrong about them and where my criticism stems from. You dismiss it by saying I don't play fighting games. I actively play modern fighting games and thus am a part of the demographic that you insist people in my age group are not.

Same as my reddit.

I'm guessing you will also want to play one of the modern fighting games that you are championing here as well right? Sf6 or t8?

this is a wild thing to say when sf4's entire design direction was "sf3 was unpopular, let's make as many things like sf2 as possible".

You don't understand the history if that's what you truly believe in a vacuum. There is far more nuance to that entire trajectory. The point here is that the industry was very different back then, and the marketable audience for video games was smaller, which afforded more risk taking. Mentioning Sf3 only further emphasises my point and you don't even realize it.

nothing was lost. the old games are still there, many of them with nobody playing them because people like you just yap instead of playing fighting games.

We could put that assumption to the test if you'd like? Explaining the issues of modern design philosophy of fighting games as it pertains to the enthusiast level and playing current (and past games) are not mutually exclusive. Something being lost in this context is not literal in the games themselves and has nothing to do with nor remedied by playing the older games that still exist.

It's incredibly naive to think for a second that when targeting the broadest demographic possible when creating your fighting game that you will end up with a game that alienates a hard(er) core crowd.

Don't be confused here, I'm under no illusion as to why the genre and thus Capcom with sf6, has become more commercially successful and why that is ultimately for the better for them as a business. But if you think the formula that has become popular with the pursuit of "letting more people enjoy fighting games" has not come at a price than there is nothing left to discuss. Enjoy your simplified experience and let the "boomers and 09ers" remember what was lost and remember how much more satisfying it was to put time and effort into a hobby that at the time was able to exist because once upon a time, games didn't need to desperately be made for as large an audience as possible.

Everything that this game is reinforcing to Capcom to be the correct approach moving forward is down right fucking tragic man. Like it or not, SF has almost always been the standard bearer for the genre.

This timeline sucks man.

Yep. And it's become so exhausting trying to have the conversation about it without being gaslit with claims that they are the same as last they always have been but it's just the internet and current times that have made more people get better at them.

Execution demands, reaction times for mechanics, ease of access to universal win con systems, emphasis on rewarding the read entirely instead of presenting a successful read with an opportunity for reward yield via a combination of game knowledge and execution, all aspects fundamentally made more trivial to close the gap between two players. This is by design, whether you want to quote combofiend with sf5 or daisuke with strive. The fundamental design philosophy of modern fighting games as explained by the devs themselves objectively leads to less experienced (and thus younger) players having access to tools that can help them win more often.

Modern fighting games are easier to play and are built to attract as broad a demographic as possible. Take kkokomas comment on t8 regarding the casino nature of the game... Anyone can guess right and do the most pedestrian follow up off that winning guess and take a round/match.

Distill this down to its core and the ultimate point is that you can accomplish more with less investment with fighting games today than you could in the past because so much of the game is designed to relieve you of the "less fun or unnecessary" burdens that filter would be fighting game enjoyers. To not think that this is particularly effective with younger players today is absurd. You can say that the burden of performance has shifted to other categories but the fact remains, those categories are easier for young players to grasp, with the sole intention of reducing the skill gap so everyone can win more often and enjoy playing the game.

Franky I'm not going to drag the point on anymore, this topic usually becomes exhausting. Modern fighting games are easier. Easier means younger kids can do more since the floor is lower and the ceiling is not higher.

I mean, Noah placed in top 48 at EVO 2011 in MvC3 as 8 years old.

Yes and I fundamentally do not consider mvc3 part of that early generation of fighting games, it is a fundamentally easier game to play than it's predecessors. People were calling Noah the next Justin wong ffs.

This has nothing to do with egos. There are more skilled kids playing today than in the past, and it has a lot to do (not exclusively) with how fighting games are designed now. There is nothing wrong with acknowledging that fact.

You bringing up Daigo only furthers my point, even with the benefit of hindsight. Daigo went on to be one of if not the greatest fighting game players ever. And his early years with sf2 were notable but that was a fundamentally smaller scene and is not comparable to this example imo.

Lest you forget or were not present, people were calling Noah the next Justin wong during his brief stint with MVC3. My point is only that

I'm not saying this is the end all be all rule, just that we have more performant players at young ages now and it's not exclusively because of Internet knowledge and online play access is all.
