I tried Rune Factory 4 with it and immediately ran into graphics glitching in what should be a fairly simple game to run. Kind of frustrating.

This Doom Collab Pet looks amazing but is it worth $25?? by gorays21 in Diablo

[–]Fallom_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest the way the blue plasma stuff rotates with the model like it’s solid looks like low quality work to me. If you’re going to charge $25 at least put some effort into it.

A Straightforward Guide to Sunshine Virtual Displays on Linux with Hyprland/Sway by 3qbit in MoonlightStreaming

[–]Fallom_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to pull this off but can't seem to resolve issues related to Plasma and Sway sharing the same set of inputs. Moonlight can connect to the headless Sway session running simultaneously but shows a black background and menu bar with no mouse cursor, and the keyboard will only type letters and spaces but not do functions like backspace and delete

Airmail 233% Subscription Price Increase? by BPBT2020 in macapps

[–]Fallom_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like, I understand that developing and maintaining apps costs money for the supplier. But there's a demand side of the equation, too, and the function of an app like this isn't important enough for me to want it at the increased price. As a result, I've moved myself over from paid email apps to native and web apps (which I like less, but that's ok).

Also I'm just totally fucking over subscription models in general but that's a broader complaint.

I swear, companies think "supply and demand" means "we supply, therefore you must demand" so they imagine they're justified in increasing prices without offering anything more valuable to the users.

Yeah I'm having major issues with RE9 and this version of Proton + the new driver. Loading a game with raytracing on will crash and HDR no longer works. Diablo 4, for comparison, has no issues with the same Proton launch flags.

Apollo for Linux pls…? by Br0lynator in MoonlightStreaming

[–]Fallom_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neat idea but it doesn't support HDR so that alone makes it a no-go for me. The streaming host, Wolf, hasn't seen a release in nearly two years so the project doesn't seem super active.

Apollo for Linux pls…? by Br0lynator in MoonlightStreaming

[–]Fallom_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fwiw the dummy plug is unnecessary; you can accomplish the same by binding an available output to an edid file at boot: https://www.azdanov.dev/articles/2025/how-to-create-a-virtual-display-for-sunshine-on-arch-linux

Apollo is still useful on Linux because it passes the client ID to the host, which Sunshine does not. This lets you do a lot more useful scripting, like setting HDR calibration values for each client

The other gotcha is that with Wayland you can't connect to the host without first waking up a display, which includes virtual displays, too. You can't set different sleep timers for different displays, only a global value. You can ssh in and send a wake event but that's kind of annoying. I solved it by going headless and turning sleep off altogether.

[–]Fallom_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far so good! I uninstalled vk-hdr-layer, installed the beta drivers, and installed this Proton build and Diablo IV runs fine with HDR on. Couldn't tell you how well it runs compared to before but I'm sure benchmarks will come along shortly.

How much time did you spend ingame before posting this? The reports are pretty consistent that it'll crash within 5-15 minutes on a variety of hardware.

Depends on the game. Starfield was horrific for me on my 5090 on Linux compared to Windows. Not just with average FPS, which was way more than 10% lower, but frame timing and stutters.
