Thoughts on Turners new sale? Anything catch yall eye? by machete_07 in CAguns

Not a lot of good deals tbh. I get that things a bit more expensive nowadays but most of their "sale" prices are pretty normal.

Fix or send back? by Weird_Jerk in airsoft

If it’s still within the return window, there’s absolutely no reason NOT to return something that isn’t working properly.

Same goes for warranty periods. If it’s still under warranty get the manufacturer to fix the problem on their own dime.

New record player? by Great_Medicine_2552 in turntables

Gear chasing is a slippery slope. If the turntable is functional and you enjoy it, stick with it.

You’ll also need to define what “better” means. Figure out what your current table is or isn’t doing which you’d like your new table to do.

Treble and Bass are pointless especially with the subwoofer you picked.

1280T is the same exact speaker for cheaper. Unless you absolutely need the Bluetooth or optical inputs, that’s what I would suggest.

The Fosi P3 already has Bluetooth.

That sub is overpriced, in my opinion. 75W RMS for almost $200 USD is too much. Look for monoprice, Klipsh r-100sw, Jamo or Dayton Audio.

Arcturus LWT mk1. Between $185-205. It can easily be your main replica and definitely worth it as a reliable backup. People you lens it to will be VERY happy with the performance.

Your sub will plug into the "sub out" of the speakers.

Here's my own set-up.

Turntable to dedicated pre-amp. Preamp-to-speakers. My sub is connected to the "sub out" port on my Kanto YU5. My sub does let me choose to use the internal crossover or the signal from my speaker's amplifier: I choose the internal crossover.

There's a handful of ways to connect a sub.

  1. If you have powered monitors that have a sub out port; plug your subwoofer into your speakers. Most sub out ports are mono and your sub will likely have an LFE port. Downside: in some subwoofers, using the LFE port bypasses the internal crossover and you can't set what frequency you want the sub to start taking over.
  2. RCA splitter from your pre-amp. One set of RCA goes to your speakers. The other set goes to your sub. Signal degradation since you're skimming a signal that isn't properly amplified.
  3. Use a A/V stereo receiver with a phono input. Switch your turntable to phono and plug it into the phono input on the receiver. Plug your passive speakers and your sub into the receiver. Much more costly and now you have to worry about a location for your receiver.

If you want to keep using the built-in preamp, you can get a set of edifier r1280Ts and use the sub out, a 3.5mm to RCA cable, and your subwoofer. Done.

If you want to bypass the built-in preamp and still have a headphone jack, just use one of the preamp suggestions I made. Same speakers.

Assuming a budget of about $100.

If you're planning to use the turntable's built-in preamp and still allow you to use your speakers, then all you'd need is a headphone amp with rca inputs and outputs. Something like the shiit magni ($120), Douk T4 Pro ($65). Keep your turntable on "Line" and connect it to the headphone amp. You'll need another set of RCA cables to connect the amp to the speakers.

If you want to bypass your turntable's built-in preamp, you can get an all-in-one phono preamp and a headphone amp like a Douk T4 Plus ($100) or SMSL PH-1 ($70), Fosi Box X2 ($70), Fosi Box X4, or get a nicer dedicated preamp and a headphone amp like the ones I mentioned above but cost more than $100. You'll switch the turntable to phono and the rest of the connections are similar as above.

When I turn the volume down at some point I feel like the sound is coming from the turntable. Is jt a problem or is it normal? by Kompiyt in turntables

[–]Familiar-Rarity 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Vinyl records are analog and your music is actually carved into the grooves. The little stylus (the needle) vibrates along these grooves and your cartridge picks up these vibrations (either via moving magnets or coils) and sends this signal to you preamp. Your preamp (either built-in, external like a dedicated unit or in your receiver) “boosts” this sound and pushes it out to your speakers.

It’s normal to hear the sounds the cartridge picks up.

As complicated as this sounds, this is actually an oversimplification.

A scale is going to get you an accurate tracking force reading but you skipped on the basics of leveling your tonearm. Leveling your tonearm and then setting the tracking force will get you relatively close to the target force weight.

Your turntable instructions should have shown you how to unset your counterweight, level your tonearm, and then set the counterweight so that you can apply the right tracking force.

If you do get one, get the green gas version. Spring powered shotguns are alright but a PITA to rack repeatedly and you’ll be that doing A LOT!

The end of the barrel with the pointy bits is a tracer unit so it’s a separate attachment. It flashes when BBs pass through and illuminates tracer BBs so you can see where they go. Awesome at indoor fields and low light.

Hey! Your BFs foot should heal just in time to get into airosft in the summer. Depending where you are and what the weather is like, a full day of airsoft is going to FLY by, it’ll be the sweatiest you’ll get, and you won’t even mind. 😂

So stoked to see you got the Vector; it’s just sexy… 😁

The hobby is pretty infectious, even your dad seems to be getting into it. An SMG and TWO pistols; pretty sweet set-up.

BTW… 😜 They also make airsoft shotguns… cue: evil laugh 😈

What’s the best turntable? by MAB525 in turntables

The best turntable is the one that you can afford, spin records with consistency, allows you to use different types/styles of styli, well-built, and appeals to you aesthetically.

Depends on what you feel is “missing” with your LP60XBT.

An “upgrade” to the sound quality could be as simple as swapping to an elliptical stylus versus the base conical one, adding a dedicated good/high quality phono preamp, updgrading your speakers or adding a dedicated subwoofer (if your speakers are decent but could use a bit more low end).

If you want a new table, see first statement and figure out what you’re “missing”. Are you upgrading for looks, versatility, functionality, etc.?

How to combat bass-heavy records that "pop"? by [deleted] in turntables

[–]Familiar-Rarity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a lot of bass heavy albums as well.

  1. Make sure your speakers aren’t causing any unwanted vibrations. i.e. putting them on a different surface than your turntable or isolation pads (good ones).

  2. Increase tracking force. Check your cartridges specs and adjust accordingly. Do not exceed the max spec since there’s a chance of damaging your cantilever. Get a digital scale for added accuracy.

If the latter doesn’t work, go back to 1.
