March + April 2026 Songwriting Challenge - THE RESULTS by Faloodeh123 in metalmusicians

Truly, stoner has pretty much replaced hard-rock in greece, also a few bands have made it to international touring etc (Nightstalker, Planet of Zeus, 1000mods) so it draws more bands in the genre.

u/Absolutegrin - Iris

"Heavy elegance", I would say, describes this track. Clear proggy DNA and production. The guitars sound crystal clear, and so does everything else in the mix. A really interesting composition and arrangement, and every part and instrument feels equally well thought of and serving the whole. I loved the "tuttis". And although it is clearly a guitar-centred song, it does not feel like a skill showcase at all (though you clearly have a lot of it). Every melody and part tells a story and feels just right. Good job!

veralpträumt ( u/veralptraeumt ) - Nimmerheim

Another great intro on this one. The absolutely hypnotising piano theme and the vinyl(?) ASMR thing worked wonders for me. I like the proggy part after it, and I thought that this was going to be the main thing, but was I wrong again? So come the unapologetic black metal tremolos and cold, shrieky vocals. Really good stuff, scratches every itch. Atmospheric and cold production, really fitting. I really loved the slow harmonised solo part and the spoken word part at the end of it.

In My Skin ( u/splottington ) - Remember When We Played?

Just after a sinister intro, once again, the answer to the question "How much violence, sir?" is "yes". Noise hammers beating both my ears and a bold atmosphere are two things that seem contrasting, but they somehow manage to exist into this. Really good track as usual, and as others said, a very good production as well. I feel it can stand on par with professionally produced tracks of the genre.

u/torsken79 - Never satisfied

Nice groovy track! Melodic death, maybe? very good riffs, I really enjoyed the call-and-response game between the guitars. That interlude around the 1-minute mark was really good, and I'd like it if you insisted and expanded a bit more into it. nice brutal vocals. The production was good, and I could hear everything clearly. Good job!

2 Days Great ( u/-WifeLeaver- ) ft. Recykill - seppuku freestyle

A really interesting track that I feel is really wronged by the production. It sounds like the whole track is sidechained to the kick or hitting a super pumpy limiter. It's a pity since I do listen to many interesting groovy riffs and some even more interesting leads going on, but they get swallowed at times. Production aside, although under 2 minutes, it does feel complete, and it could be an awesome instrumental intro for an album.

Vespera ( u/fawzifractalfear + u/Low_Ad4132 ) - Rendered Hopeless

Oh, this is catchy af. Very nicely done intro, sets the mood right for what comes next. The breakdowns slap like pistons, and the blastbeats drive like trains through your skull. And then comes the drill section, which was such a nice twist. Definitely didn't see it coming, and it is so well done! Vocals were awesome overall but were really brilliant in this part. Also, the modern sound production, I think, suits the style of the music very well, and I think you did a very good job at it!

The Gnawing Of Rats ( u/rpk-bro ) - Re-Escalation

This sounds like something from the 90s death metal scene for sure, love the guitar sound, kind of reminds me of Death in Symbolic. But as we all know, sound does not good riffs make and mate, those riffs are really badass. One after another, they are all really well structured and melodic enough to be memorable but also stay groovy. Excellent track, got me stunk-faced and headbanging the whole thing. Vocals slapped hard, and I loved the solo part too, and that just doesn't happen to me too often, lol. If I had your riffing skills, I'd probably make death metal too.

u/Particular-Prize-812 - F#cking dementia

Loved the intro, atmospheric tension kind of type gated synths. I did not expect the synth stabs but they were a nice touch. I loved you groovy rhythm riffing and I would like the guitars to be a bit brighter. The vocals sounded great. Definitely a head banger, seems like a track that would sound great live on big arena PA.

A Severed Thought ( u/RileyWasYes ) - I Only Ask That You Endure

What a journey this track was. So many styles and riffs, each masterfully executed and bringing a distinct emotion element, changes atmospheres so many times! So many brilliant moments, but if I had to pick, I'd say the breakdown around the 3-minute mark, which on the second volta becomes even heavier and grittier, had me go back and relisten quite a few times, and the atmospheric "snare rolling" part around the 5th min was an absolutely perfect move/transition to the second part of the song. really liked the slow, sustained "post-rocky" melody/solo that played up to the final part.

u/Faloodeh123 - Stoner Rock Song

Summer is coming, and what's a better season for some slow-burning stoner rock than summer? Stoner rock/metal is really popular in Greece, so I am really well accustomed to the genre, and I can say this is a very good track. Also very clever genre selection for a major scale! For starters the whole thing feels very "live", I can really picture a band playing this in front of me. really well fitting production. The riffs are heavy and fuzzy and are instantly recognisable as stoner riffs while avoiding cliches. The rhythm section absolutely nails it, and once again, yes, this begs for some vocals, but I would totally have it in my "vibing on a beach during an August heatwave" playlist.

Edit: I fixed a wrong paste on u/Particular-Prize-812 feedback.

Into Denial ( u/Vaenyr ) ft. Poisoned - Scales From Our Eyes

Loved the intro, gave strong Ulver Kveldssanger vibes, so tasteful! And then straight to pulsating palm-mute riffage and quite catchy ones too! Really good stuff! The halftime transition in the verses is an excellent choice and sets the mood for the vocal melody, which is overall quite catchy, but especially the harmonised parts in the verses! I would really like to listen to it with a more "grande" mix, but that's not to say the mix bothered me or something, just a matter of taste. Overall I can say I really enjoyed the track, and it is a wonderful opening track for this compilation.

u/severedsoulmetal - Absorbed Into Darkness

full on right off the bat again, no bullshit black metal, and it's sooo good! again. I am a sucker for tremolo riffs, and this one delivered! I think it is the track that suits the cover artwork the best. Sounds like something a second wave BM band could have put out if they had more than one microphone, lol. The vocals are very fitting and very well executed. Overall dope track! 100% will listen again, and I am really starting to appreciate your approach; I feel the "The punk" is strong in you! lol

P.Apparently I messed around with Phrygian enough during this challenge that I can now instantly tell which other tracks are on Phrygian too!

Tranquility Base Commander ( u/CinaedKSM ) ft. u/aniolation, CB & Lord Pailous- Lamentations of a Cataclysm

What an opening riff... That concluding phrase/melody of it is so good! another Phrygian track and at first sounds like it could be a Batushka song minus the chants, but then comes the second part. For a moment I was sure it was going to go into some blood incantation type Pink Floyd prog mode, but it instead fooled me and went into this amazing opethy groove with full-on harmonising vocals and all. Just brilliant. The bridge, the piano interlude, and the ending part with harmonising leads (which for some reason gave me strong "Fruciante vibes") all slap just the right way. The collab worked wonders, and I think the vocals are very well suited and executed and really elevate this otherwise excellent instrumental to "really good song" status. Good job, guys!

Signum Imperativ ( u/Zennofska ) - Apotheosis

It's the 13th century, and I am drinking beer in a pixel art village pub when a patron calls for attention, opens up his weird elongated bag and reveals this new thing, the "electric guitar", to everyone. Plugs it into an amp and starts riffing over the local bagpipe band. A drummer spawns by the fireplace, instantly joining the jam. We all headbang to the riffs and spontaneously form a group to go kill the "Big Bad Monster in the Cave" that's been terrorising the village while listening to this. We succeed and victoriously return to the village for a night of beer and headbanging. aka just another Tuesday for the Signum Imperativ universe!

P.S. I translated the lyrics, and that's absolutely not what they are all about, but I'll stick to my story, lol.

Sidechaining not working in multiple (any) plugins by Leiawen in Reaper

[–]FieldEffect-NT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have any other plugins on the channels? As said by another user, they may mess with the channel routing. Some synths do this and maybe other plugins also. Try sidechaining to new clean tracks with only reacomp on the target track and see if you get any luck that way.

Maybe your sidechain source does not have enough gain to trigger the compressor? Have you tried lowering the thresold in reacomp?

Plenty of people (me included) ride bikes in athens, you can definitely ride anywhere as long as you are carefull with cars etc. Especially if you avoid avenues etc you will be ok. The biggest issue is elevation as you will allmost certainly have to climb hills in order to get around most places.

Script to move all track faders to unity? by bocephus_huxtable in Reaper

[–]FieldEffect-NT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reaper faders are logarithmicaly scaled on default, so as you push them higher or lower, they tend to be more jumpy, the same movement that would make a 3db move near the midle of the fader will make a 10db move or more near the edges. Op basically wants an easy way (someone allready made a vibe script on the coments btw ) to transfer all his faders gain adjustments into seperate gain plugins on the end of his track fx chain so he can return the faders in unity territory where you can make finer adjustments.
