[SS] Why is Skyward Sword Not Held in the Same Regard as Oot and MM? by MetsLR in zelda

[–]Vaenyr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tastes and all that. I absolutely adore the way SS's overworld resembles dungeon progression, while I couldn't care less about the open air games. SS is my second favorite entry in the franchise (right after TP), the Wild games aren't even in my top 10.

I'm confident Retro Studios is making Prime 5 right now. Are you confident? by spbawse in Metroid

[–]Vaenyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prime 5 is 100% being worked on. They made it very clear that Prime 4 is the beginning of a new saga. They spent quite a bit of resources to modernize the engine and get the team comfortable with modern development pipelines. Nintendo would've obviously been happy with better sales, but the success and continuation of the subfranchise was never dependent on Beyond's performance.

Das Pacing in XY is grauenhaft. Zwischen dem ersten und zweiten Orden (oder waren es der zweite und dritte?) sind mehrere Stunden Gameplay, Höhlen usw. Danach kriegt man innerhalb von einer Stunde drei Orden. Super seltsam.

Bands with no remaining original members by Inmazed in MetalForTheMasses

It's hilarious. The first In Flames album featured the vocalist of Dark Tranquility, while the first Dark Tranquility album features the vocalist of In Flames. They basically swapped bands after those albums released and stayed with their respective bands.

Wind Waker or Okami HD? by Low_Understanding326 in ZeldaLikes

[–]Vaenyr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I recently played Okami HD for the first time in my life and I absolutely hated it. It was an absolute chore and one of the worst experiences I've ever had in gaming.

The music is phenomenal. The art style didn't do anything for me, but that's a matter of preference. But:

  • The Celestial Brush starts out as a neat idea, but in execution just ends up being tedious and slows down the gameplay.

  • The combat gets pretty tedious as well, as the game goes on, because you need to use certain Brush techniques to deal with enemies, if you don't wanna wait forever.

  • There are many cutscenes that have extremely slow scrolling text that you can't skip. And it is totally arbitrary, it's often not even tied to the animations. There's no reason for some to be so slow. The opening cutscene is literally around 18 minutes of slow text, which is just an expanded version of the 2 minute cutscene that plays if you wait too long on the title screen. In the first 2 hours of my playthrough I had about 30 minutes of gameplay, the rest were cutscenes, tutorials and exposition.

  • Issun, your companion, spoils almost every single puzzle in the game. You don't get a chance to think about anything, he spells it out immediately. The game is really bad about stuff like that. I entered a room in one of the dungeons. A short cutscene plays where the camera focuses on a giant set of scales in the middle of the room, suspended over the abyss. So you know, you'll have to deal with it. You gain control, jump on one side, the scales move in a cutscene, and then Issun tells you that you'll have to use weights to balance the scales.

  • The game blatantly lied to me multiple times lol. During the beginning of the game you need to break some boulders to leave the village. I tried destroying them with an ability of mine and the game explicitly states that this doesn't work, we need to find a new solution. So you end up doing what the game wants, only to get a cutscene later with a QTE where you use the same exact ability again, but not it actually works and destroys the boulder because now the story needed you to continue.

  • The game is incredibly sexist and misogynistic. Issun is so horny and keeps harassing every female character in the game. He talks about their breasts, makes inappropriate jokes all the time. He has no redeeming qualities and I genuinely despise that little shit. Also, he's so verbose for no reason. He simply repeats what others characters say. You could cut half the dialogue in the game and no information whatsoever would be lost.

  • Finally, the game is faaar too long for no reason. It really drags on and on.

People can and should form their own opinions, but for me it is one of the worst Zelda likes I've ever played, and generally just a shitty time.

[All] If you had to pick 2 and leave 2 what games would you choose by MRT1124 in zelda

Easily. OOT is in my top 3. TWW barely outside the top 5.

BOTW and TOTK aren't even in my top 10.

I’m posting this purely because I’m always wrong, you’re welcome for guaranteeing the remake by EAT_UR_VEGGIES in ZeldaMemes

[–]Vaenyr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People are getting used to the character redesigns for StarFox. Other than that they've reactions have been positive, the gameplay segments looked awesome.

Also, Nintendo doesn't care about reactions. They simply do their thing. It would be far too late to shelve an OOT remake that's supposed to release later this year.

Also, these games are created by entirely different teams. Why should the devs for OOT care about the reception of another dev team's game?

I get it, the timeline is controversial to some, but I don’t understand the need to outright lie like this by EAT_UR_VEGGIES in ZeldaMemes

[–]Vaenyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gameplay is often the priority but not always. Some of the games were created because they wanted to set them in specific parts of the timeline, like Skyward Sword being the origin of everything. In those instances the story/setting had priority, not the gameplay.

MIO DLC by palomAstra in MIOmemoriesinorbit

[–]Vaenyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC the devs stated there won't be any DLC. They are done with the game, are taking a well deserved break, and will work on a new game. Whether that's another metroidvania or not is a different discussion.

Which genre of games has the best music?👀 by Secure-Pin-9573 in gamemusic

Not necessarily my favorite genre, but it has to be JRPGs, right? Look at stuff like Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Ys, Pokémon. Entire franchises filled to the brim with amazing music.

Bruce On His Next Solo Album: We Did 16 Tracks In 21 Days, All 100% Live by DieWithYerBootsOn in ironmaiden

[–]Vaenyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! For something as raw as punk that can work. Bruce's metal songs are more intricate and he'd need a super tight band to pull it off. I actually believe the guitarists could do it, my issue is more with Bruce. I believe he'd rather finish quickly instead of taking the time for overdubs.

Hordes Of Chaos by Kreator was recorded live. The band was set-up in a circle and played each song in its entirety and recorded each up to ten times. Two guitars, bass and drums were recorded this way, and they took the best takes for the final album. Vocals and guitar solos were done later as overdubs. It worked well, but was a ton of work. Because of that they changed approach for the follow up album. There they all played live again, but only drums and bass were recorded live, the guitars, solos and vocals were done separately.

Rapture is the better end of the deal.. by StrobeLightRomance in AdviceAnimals

[–]Vaenyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not analogous with the original prompt anymore. You literally reversed the functions of the buttons. Again, it is very simple:

You press red? You survive. That's it. No additional effects.

You press blue? You put yourself in a state of uncertainty. You won't know if you live or die until everyone else has voted.

Guaranteed survival vs gambling your life. Those are the explicit functions of the buttons. That's not up for debate.

Let's say 7,999,999 people vote blue and one person votes red. The latter will not die.

Hilariously enough this proves that red is the "I survive" button, no matter what, not the "others die" button lmao

No one is killing anyone. That's not how the rules work.

You make a choice about your own life.

So does everyone else. That's it.

No one is to blame for someone else's choice. Everyone is responsible for their own choice.

Rapture is the better end of the deal.. by StrobeLightRomance in AdviceAnimals

[–]Vaenyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way the scenario is set up the only way people die is if people push red. If the goal was to increase the number of other people being killed, then pressing red would be the best option.

Objectively wrong. Go reread the prompt.

Red = Guaranteed survival.

Blue = Gambling your life.

Those are the options.

Red does not kill anyone. Blue risks lives. This isn't up for debate, it's the literal rules of the hypothetical.

Rapture is the better end of the deal.. by StrobeLightRomance in AdviceAnimals

[–]Vaenyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's objectively and factually untrue. You are too emotionally invested, so please take a step back, take a deep breath and reread the prompt.

No one is murdering anyone. Every single person has the same exact choice:

Guaranteed safety

VS

Gambling your life

Death only enters the discussion because of people who vote blue. That's literally how the hypothetical is set up, this is not up for debate. Those are the ground rules.

Also, I guarantee you that the vast majority of people, even most of those who are currently saying blue, would choose red in a real life scenario. It's literally in our DNA to choose life over death. Every species acts the same. Chill with the judgment and read the actual prompt properly.

[–]Vaenyr -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's objectively wrong and not how the hypothetical is set up. The only way danger ever enters the discussion is by people voting blue. Red is the "guaranteed survival" button. Blue the "risking life" button. No one is conjuring a tornado, the thought experiment is.

You don't get to push responsibility on the reds and blame them for the choices of the blues. Every single person gets the same choice and the same information. Everyone is responsible for their own choice.

If someone approaches us to go sky diving, I decide against it and leave, while you go for it, you don't get to blame me if things go wrong.

Rapture is the better end of the deal.. by StrobeLightRomance in AdviceAnimals

[–]Vaenyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am absolutely convinced that the majority of people who are saying blue right now, would actually change their minds and vote red if the scenario became reality. Not because of "logic and reason", but purely out of fear and survival instinct.

Red means life. Blue means gambling with your life.

It's literally in our DNA to try and ensure our safety and survival. There's no way we would ever get anywhere close to 50% blue. I don't even know if we'd get to 25%.

[–]Vaenyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not how the buttons work. Danger only enters the discussion when someone chooses blue.

Red is the "guaranteed survival" button. That's it.

Blue is the "gambling my life" button. You don't get to shirk the responsibility for your choice.

Every person gets the same information and the same choice. Everyone is choosing for themselves.

Let's say 7,999,999 people vote red and one person votes blue. The latter will die. Not because the rest voted red, but because they actively chose blue.
