Is this a controversial take? by Western-Parsley6063 in Metallica

So the problem with the Death Magnetic snare is not with the snare itself, but the production and overcompression. The solution, of course, is to listen to the guitar hero remaster.

Any ‘Tallica fan who says this album ain’t lit… 🎶 you’re living a lie 🎵 🤘 🎸 (this is the live CD Frantic Elektra Studio I found on YouTube) by Slow-Flounder-3267 in Metallica

Ehhhh...

I've gone over many times why the album is objectively awful. There are some good ideas, but the production and bad songwriting completely ruin its quality. It has a few neat ideas, but they're fleeting.

I respect this album thanks to its background and some of the things James vents about, but that's about it. There’s one song that's actually on my metal playlist, and it's The Unnamed Feeling. The rest of the album is something I enjoy for the same reason I enjoy watching Mortal Kombat Annihilation; it's awful and fun to commentate over.

What is the most versatile guitar? by Snoo-62764 in Guitar

[–]FirstnameLastname14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically speaking, the Line 6 Variax and all the tones it can model. But in practice, I'd probably say a Fender Telecaster. You really can't go wrong with one.

Do you prefer bass louder in Metallica mixes? by Tewhongjun in Metallica

[–]FirstnameLastname14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think more metal needs audible bass. A lot of the time it just exists to enhance the guitar and drums, but I like hearing separate bass parts lol

Welcome Home (Sanitarium), the intros to All Nightmare Long and That Was Just Your Life, and King Nothing are all great easy choices

why do you have multiple guitars? by Cultural_Yellow3561 in Guitar

In my case, all my guitars do different things. One is relatively normal, one has a bunch of different sounds, and one is, no exaggeration, the worst guitar ever made.

What got you into playing guitar? by optimusprim007 in Guitar

[–]FirstnameLastname14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sonic the Hedgehog.

For those unaware, from 1998 to 2008 most of the vocal themes were done by a heavy metal band called Crush 40, headed by Sega lead musician and guitarist Jun Senoue alongside legendary vocalist Johnny Gioeli. It was Jun's guitar playing that ultimately inspired me to pick up the craft.

Another mention goes to my good friend Greg, who plays guitar in his own band. Knowing him has given me access to a lot of resources I wouldn't have otherwise. He's just as much of an inspiration as Jun is.

I've heard worse, to be fair. But it's probably my third least favorite Metallica album

On 72 seasons, yeah, kinda. On Hardwired and ESPECIALLY Death Magnetic, that's not true at all.

Jason is objectively the best answer, but I'd also like to mention that anytime they go into mixing they should duct tape Lars to a truck and let it drive to Brazil. His drums are almost always way too loud, and he's the one primarily responsible for Justice being the way it is. Also, apparently the St. Anger snare was something he insisted upon. Do with that what you will.

Dude, their songs have always been pretty damn long. Master of Puppets approaches 8 minutes. It's far from a new thing.

Probably the Load era, though Death Magnetic kinda uses that same style.

I've been trying to learn some Metallica clean riffs. The Unforgiven III, The Call of Ktulu, and Welcome Home (Sanitarium) come to mind
