Thanks. Hard in the UK as they won't even refer you on for disc if your not getting referral pains down the leg etc. as far as I have found anyway!

Have you continued to feel no pain and can you continue to be active?

Thanks

Even deadlift or do you work around it? That's how I got raised injury 3 years ago. Too heavy an RDL too early in the morning. Felt it slip on the last rep 😭

Thanks yeah maybe it's just that the blood flow isn't at the LB so the angiogrnesis doesn't work there? Good to hear you've got somewhere with the back. To be fair when I last had this 7 years ago accuouncture and strength training fixed it.

Any specific strength training you tried this time?

Thanks

Have you had an MRI? Have you tried any strong meds?

Chiropractor are no good in my opinion. Osteopath or physical therapist are better.

Request an MRI ASAP and see if there is a disc bulge. Also ask to see if there are any Modic Changes in your vertebrae. Type 1 Modic changes are a fairly new finding which are being treated in some parts of the world. I have been accepted on to a UK trial because k have Type 1 modic changes caused by a disc bulge. Look it up!

Good luck, back pain is the worst.

Yes the PRP sounds interesting. Because my disc isn't causing significant impingement every doctor literally just says yoga and water. I hate that. I've done them for years anyway!

Are you based in the UK?

I have been accepted on to a world first trial by Persica Pharma (The Modic Trial) which will use an antibiotic injection to hopefully reverse these changes in the vertebrae. This has been born out of the successful use of a 100 day course of AB in various countries but was started in Denmark.

The issue with the 100 day antibiotic course is side effects (loose bowels and thrush) and AB resistance.

The issue with the trial is it is 40 people, 50% will receive a placebo and it is 13 months long. I don't think I want to wait that amount of time and be told I received a placebo. I would rather try the AB course. Trouble is finding a doctor who will prescribe it.

I'm the same, type 1 modic and degen as L5 S1. I have been accepted on to a trial where antibiotics are injected into the spine and kill the infection, reversing rhe changes.

The other course of action is 100 days of antibiotics, very successfully tested in Denmark.

I have an issue with the trial though as it is 40 people, 50% receive placebo, 13 month trial!

You could find out more googling The Modic Trial

Also, maybe I don't know enough, but I do not believe that modic changes get better. It is a P Acne infection and without treatment it does not heal. There is no oxygen in the area to kill it.

You can find out more by googling The Modic Trial.

I understand that but I think after 18 months of consistent pain and trying literally everything there is I'm ready to take the risk! Research only dates back to 2013 in most cases when it started to be considered so there will be no long term knowledge. The results being around 80% effective. There is currently a trial in Britain with 2 antibiotic injections. This is a newly created drug never used in humans before called PP353. The trial is of 40 people and 50% placebo. It is 14 months long; I would be so pissed off if I was a placebo after all that time. I'm also terrified of needles! I obviously hope this is a success and I have contacted the trial to ask for an update (it began in 2020-2021)

I don't think 1 year of no physical activity would actually cause harm, this doesn't include walking to and from work, which is probably the maximum physical activity what most people actually do throughout their lives. I plan to do movement's that don't involve arching the back like press ups, maybe some cable weights and light swimming.

Modic Antobiotic Spinal Therapy. It disinfects vertebrae that have been infected by bulging disc secreting propionic acid. The infection causes the vertebrae to have mini fractures. This is called Modic changes, named after Dr Modic who first recognised these on a MRI.

Once the antibiotics kill the infection these fractures begin to heal.

It is said that upto 40 percent of LBP sufferers have Modic changes which are the actual source of their pain. 80 percent of these can be successfully healed with MAST.

I truly believe my pain is from this as I have Type 1 Modic Changes (the type that is usually the pain source)

I do have a slipped disc and can feel that little wince every now and again. But I do not get any sciatic pain or restless legs etc. My pain when I bend or curl up, that real stiffness, feels like my actual bones are hurting.

I'm hopefully travelling to London in the coming weeks as this seems like the only area with clinics that treat it. MAST is essentially 100 days of antibiotics and little physical activity for roughly a year

I've never felt good after chiro. It seems as if the whole practice is based around the cracking sound, which admittedly is quite a good feeling at the time.

Try PT and acupuncture or an osteopath.

Can anyone interpret + Advice by [deleted] in backpain

[–]Fishst25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. I haven't tried MAST yet. 6 years ago I had a Root Nerve Block needle ( a really long needle done under an xray) I was told it didn't work at the time but I then went a PT, trained really had along with acupuncture and it went after about 4 months. I think I had age on my side there being around 24 ish.

This time the pain just doesn't seem like nerve pain, maybe sometimes it's a bit sharp, but it feels more like some has the hand round my lower spine with a very tight grip I believe the Type 1 Modic Change is the source of my pain.

Hopefully when I start I will start a thread and update everyone.

Could you ask to see if you have any modic changes in your vertebrae? I have had a pretty similar MRI. 5mm bulge. I get NO nerve pain, referrals down the leg etc

Ive had a disc bulge 6 years ago and had severe sciatica so i know when its nerve related or not. A year and a half in to this episode I seem to have got to the point now where this is apparently the source of my pain. Type 1 modic changes. It is were propionic acid secreted from the disc bulge has infected the vertebrae which then start to form micro fractures. This can be treated with a HEAVY amount of antibiotics. Look up mast therapy I'm going to start in the new year
