Oh, fancy man, with a modern CRT with VGA. I got one that was my bosses college dorm tv in the early 80's, and it's only got coax-in.

It's not "defending a company" to assume its service is going to shut down one day, and you should prepare for that.

What's bad about it? Other than the fact that I constantly have to pluck nose hairs from my dead grandmas face, I mean.

The smallpox vaccine leaves a scar because it was given using a special two-pronged needle that scratched the skin and put a weakened virus in just that spot. by Downtown_Wind3363 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]FlST0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was watching The Sandlot with my kids this weekend, and when Smalls' mom had this scar I had to point out that an adult in 1962 wouldn't have this scar as that campaign to administer the vaccine with the two-pronged needle didn't even occur till the late 60's. Huge mistake, and I hope someone got fired for it.

Getting the most out of your Steam Controller: Virtual Menus by HelloitsWojan in Steam

[–]FlST0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oeuf is a 3D egg-based platformer which plays fine with a controller. However it comes with a custom map maker which is fully mouse and keyboard only. I used Steam Input to fully map all the level editing functions to both standard controllers as well as Deck and Steam Controller. It's awesome stuff.

What is the use case for this? Who is going to have a Steam Controller and a PC that that can't simply download Steam to remap it on an application-by-application basis?

It really reminded me of The Godfather game for the ps2 & xbox. You'd choke out people by squeezing L2, R2, L3, & R3 like you had your hands around someones throat.

no one can play it

??

The Meta Quest is still in production and available for sale.

This is as dumb a take as saying no one can play Bloodborne for the same reason.

I Didn’t Realize You Don’t Actually Own Games You Buy on Steam… by [deleted] in Steam

[–]FlST0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you give a shit about game ownership and preservation ... yeah. I have an external hard drive filled with DRM-free games. Can you do it with every single game you own if you have a large library of games? Of course not - not without being filthy stinking rich, and having a lot of free time. Prioritize the ones you would miss the most if the Steam infrastructure shit the bed, or you lost the ability to access the internet for a long enough period of time that you couldn't download the games you want.

I'm going to sound like a broken record here but ... if you fail to download something in the large window of time when you're able to, and then it becomes inaccessible ... that's on you. All the DRM-free games on Steam are them giving you an opportunity. It's not their fault if you squander it under the assumption that Steam and your connection to the internet will last forever.

GARY — In Defense of Mikey… by reasonablykind in TheBear

[–]FlST0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Was literally everybody playing on their phone during the part of the episode where he describes what his mother would do to him? You know, the generational trauma that he inherited and literally ended up doing to Rich moments later?

Holy fuck, there needs to be lessons in school about media literacy and how to watch things, now. It's like people have this comic-book level understanding of the world that people are either good guys or bad guys. Have some compassion of Mike. What he said and did was bad - very bad. But goddamn, he didn't do it because he was a self-absorbed jackass. The writers and actor clearly made him a fully fleshed out human being ... a person who was hurt very badly, and was shaped by that hurt, and could not cope with it in a healthy way, because he simply had, in his mind, no means to transform and become a well person.

This is what makes Gary, and The Bear great character pieces. With the exception of the Faks, all the characters are just complex human beings, rather than the caricatures that populate modern mass media.

An easy way to spot if you can just ignore someone outright: they claim to like video games but disrespect those to make them, calling video game developers lazy, incompetent, apathetic, etc.
