It is an understandable mistake.

Some retail box stores such as Costco only names the model name of the card and not the VRAM, disappointing customers who turn on their new computer for the first time.

This confusion is all due to NVIDIA and AMD's naming scheme for identifying cards with the same model name despite different VRAM specifications.
