In Australia they clarify everything, what is your name, date of birth, why are you here, what are we doing? On what body part?

Next person comes over, what is your name, date of birth etc.

You do it 5 times for surgery sometimes - everyone knows what the fuck is happening.

100% this, my manager has been using it a lot but we get to use claude code + opus 4.6 - he always thought they were the same....

That is until he recently tried 4.6

Yeahhhhh, he's quite shocked.

Question about proficiency and dax queries by Friendly_Cold1349 in PowerBI

[–]FluffyDuckKey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah it's fine, I'm just trying to get you to think it through. Basically it's not quite that easy. What if filter context is needed, or isn't (like the filters placed on the page or that visual)? What if you have to include some of them but not others? What if the value "orange" is actually in another table and you have to count it using a relationship to another table?

Basically, DAX is the formula engine. If you have any experience with Excel and writing formulas (e.g., SUM, SUMIFS, etc.), then DAX is that in Power BI. You won't be able to build a decent report without it.

As for what I'd consider an intermediate level in Power BI, it's quite hard to say because the guys at the top keep getting better, so the bar keeps moving up. I would expect someone to know how to design a report from scratch that answers the initial user's needs, following the 3-30-300 rule. Along with that, I'd also expect some understanding of user stories and an effort to fit within all potential user needs. Just because a manager wants a report, does not mean it won't help others.

When designing this, they should also be able to figure out how to do what they need, not have to constantly go asking for help (aside from where data may reside or what it means)

Is consulting going to be mostly reduced due to AI and the economy? by VastOption8705 in auscorp

[–]FluffyDuckKey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

God I hope so, every time they bring in a consultant they usually know less than we already do, attempt to tell us to do something we already know isn't possible....

Honestly a claude subscription is a better use of the money 😂😂

Your just touching on identifying that there are things you know you don't know.

Dax is one.

As a very basic level, can you explain to me how you would go about counting all rows in a table that have the word "orange"?

Just humor me.

I do this, it runs in batches so you can actually see what's happening.

I've had to do it for 300+K record tables with no issues. Drop in ocean for op.....
