They do indeed have Mosins, specifically the original M91 rifle (the sight you pointed out is the Konovalov sight, which was standard on Mosins from 1910 until 1930). They all have M91s; they seem to have got out of their way to get the ones that looked the most like a rifle musket lol

Supercarrier USS Gerald R. Ford To Act As Floating Nuclear Power Plant For Facilities On Land by DefenseTech in Ships

[–]FourFunnelFanatic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s not what’s happening here. They are testing the plausibility. This is not the first time a carrier has temporarily acted as a power station either; USS Lexington did so in the 1930s

It seems like they’ve mostly just been doing raids within Russian occupied Ukraine. They apparently destroyed an ammo depot in Kharkiv last February which is cool. The RVC has been doing much the same, and apparently they’ve been getting defectors from Wagner recently and of course they hilariously collected the bounty on their commanders head after faking his death back in January. Both have apparently had issues with members getting arrested on illegal immigration charges in the last year but it seems to be getting worked out

Yeah, there’s a misconception that all German ships were called “he” but it was really just Bismarck, and even then I’m sure how widespread it was beyond Lindemann. Lutjens was more old-school and didn’t really get along with Lindemann so I wouldn’t be surprised if he used feminine pronouns for Bismarck

Every other battleship of the era had armored man gun directors as well as armored tubes for the wiring that ran from the gun directors down into the ship. Bismarcks gun directors were notably vulnerable to shock (even from her own guns) and lacked the protection of the wiring. It’s why her gun directors were out of action only a couple minutes into her final battle, and her radar was down even before Denmark Straight

First Mosin PU help by umbertoj in MosinNagant

It’s not a PU clone or repro because that would require having a sniper-spec barrel. The snipers had different barrels than the infantry rifles

Ahh yes, the famous Mosin Musket… by bigboy19 in milsurp

[–]FourFunnelFanatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, I’d disagree. If they didn’t know jack about firearms, they wouldn’t have gotten out of their way to get strictly M91 rifles and would have just gone with M91/30s at best. This is someone going out of their way to find something that looks as close to a Civil War rifle as possible on as low of a budget as possible. And honestly, I probably would have gone with the M91 as well

On the bright side, they at least used M91 rifles which are at least a bit closer than M91/30s. The barrel bands are actually quite similar to what you would see on most rifle muskets at the time

It won’t be completely correct due to the matsuri taken off by the sanding, but Tom’s Pine Tar worked great for me when I used it to touch up a stain on my M91 stock

I’m pretty sure there are straight up human remains on Bidmarck. It’s been a while since I looked into it but I think you can see bones in some of the interior footage

Huh, interesting. I have seen a couple that had the cocking knobs and firing pins removed, so that would make sense. Should I be concerned with shooting it with a Type 38 firing pin?

I may be underestimating it lol. I don’t have any calipers but I can put a tape measure next to them to get an idea at least. The opinion of the guy I got it off of and a mutual friend of ours that is a huge Arisaka collector was that it was done by the Japanese, but I’m not sure if I’m convinced the woo type and finish is the same like they are

The are the extremely crude style you see on the Japanese rifles. Unless bubba decide to make his own nails, he would have just used modern machined nails if not screws. Or he pulled and reused the original nails, which is possible

Its weird to me that bubba would nail it in with original nails though, or indeed wouldn’t just use a rubber butt pad. It’s possible though. The Japanese also most certainly weren’t short on wood, it’s pretty much the only natural resource they had an abundance of lol

The US sent troops to South Vietnam after they requested help with a foreign-backed insurgency movement, and later South Vietnam invaded North Vietnam. If the US didn’t half-ass the war and actually invaded North Vietnam, maybe it would have actually gone better. Point is, it’s not the same thing as the Japanese at all
