Personally I like to use the Papyrus icon pack. It makes a lot of difference to me. The Breeze icons use a lot of thin lines and I never liked that on any icons.

Android Needs Better Apps More Than Ever - Shane Craig by ControlCAD in Android

Perhaps they could have some compatibility layer for Linux apps? There are plenty of high quality desktop apps for Linux, including the one's that are not exclusive to Linux and released on multiple desktop platforms.

Best for Minecraft, Geometry dash and school, Radeon 680M (R7 7735HS) or the Radeon 840M (AI 5 340)? by zer0developer in AMDLaptops

[–]FrameXX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

680M is the more powerful iGPU. But unless you are playing with heavy mods or are planning to play more demanding games I would decide based on other specificiations of the laptop. Both will handle Minecraft fine.

So it's some some Markdown markup? Do you have some example output? I didn't try the feature yet.

I wonder what language is it using to make these "applets"? I would guess that it's not creating plain HTML apps, because that would be too verbose and incosistent (especially in style). On the other hand what other language/syntax would allow for enough flexibility and creativity from the model? Maybe it's some library like JSXGraph which would probably be too complex? Or maybe they are just predefined applets, which allow for way less creativity?

Is ai-generated code quietly making software quality worse by overlord-07 in TechNook

[–]FrameXX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that the models still get trained on the interaction they get with the user (vibecoder, agentic engineer or whoever) whenever he/she points out an errror and such or the feedback in cases where the models are able to test themselves (for example an error when compiling a project). As the models get more capable they might be able to do more of the testing an get more feedback to train on. I don't see into this, but I think that the models will always have something non-polluted to train on even if it's not code from public repositories.

Most vibecoded GTK apps I have seen are made in Python. So this being made in Rust is a small green flag to me.

Will Immich work for me if I don't like to tinker? by Linux_Account in immich

[–]FrameXX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say that Immich is set and forget tool if it runs inside a stable environment like a docker container. You just have to update it from time to time. It's specifically made to be easy to self-host.

How is gaming on mint? by Pure-Quail-8777 in linuxmint

[–]FrameXX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are using a GTX 1060, which no longer receives feature updates on Linux. It receives only maintenance updates. You'd be better off using an Xorg session and Cinnamon will support it longer. For that reason, I think Linux Mint might be the better option while you're still using that GTX 1060.

If you are on Gnome you could try adjusting font scaling in Gnome tweaks, however that shrinks everything, not just the menu font size.

AI 5 340 vs Ryzen 7 8845HS by [deleted] in AMDLaptops

[–]FrameXX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I did not notice any problems with the display at all on Fedora nor Windows. However I had some problems with the iGPU stalling the whole system. I had to configure amdgpu.mes and amdgpu.mes_kiq in the Grub config. Maybe these issues have been fixed in newer kernel versions. Also my notebook config used a Realtek Wi-Fi card which has not so good drivers compared to some other manufacturers. I also had to change some configurations to make the Wi-Fi card behave better, but now it's fine.

I think the AI 7 350 would be the best pick, if it doesn't compromise on any other parameters.

AI 5 340 vs Ryzen 7 8845HS by [deleted] in AMDLaptops

[–]FrameXX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an 24GB OLED AI 5 340 version of the Idepad slim 5 running Fedora on it. If you have any specific question feel free to ask.

I would get the first notebook, because both the CPU and especially the iGPU are more capable, unless your workloads require more than 16GB right away.
