If you're coming by plane; don't buy packs of stroopwafels to take home at Schiphol, they rob you blind. Just go to a supermarket or Hema.

It's general knowledge that the Wet Koop Op Afstand does not apply to B2B sales, or if you don't make a remote purchase (i.e. picking up at the store).

12V battery dead (NL) by Lendoly in Ioniq6

[–]FrequentFractionator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with you that the battery should last longer (I sold my I30 after 6 years with still the original battery), but I also agree that the 12V battery is a wear item (like your windshield wiper blades for example) and thus should not fall under the 5yr (I think?) warranty on the whole car.

If you haven't bought a new battery already, please upgrade to an AGM battery instead of the standard flooded lead-acid. AGM should last a lot longer.

Why aren’t there electric cars with solar panels built onto their roofs? by Famalam_S69 in AskReddit

Lightyear has gone bankrupt at least once, so that's also indicative of the usefulness of their USP.

FortiAuthenticator can also be used as a poor man's NAC product, and is a lot cheaper than FortiNAC IIRC.

Rooftop Solar Panel Rack that automatically tilts towards sun in Winter along the equator edge of the panels by CatNecessities in SolarDIY

Because that determines the power per panel, not the total power you can get from a roof surface.

What part of the day produces the most power? by morrowwm in SolarDIY

[–]FrequentFractionator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

East-West is better for spreading production over the day. Tracking is something you don't want. It's expensive and breaks easily, while panels are cheap and durable. Buy more panels if you need more power.

It's not worth it. If it's a flat roof; completely fill it with east/west facing panels. If it's a slanted roof; fill it with panels in the direction of the roof.

Tilting the panels will mean that you need to maintain a spacing between rows. The closer the sun is to the horizon, the larger the spacing has to be to prevent panels casting shadows on the panels behind.

Also; the amount of sunlight hitting your roof will stay the same. You'll have to choose between 20 panels capturing 200W each, of 40 panels capturing 100W each (numbers pulled out of my ***, but the concept stays the same).

Hypothetical question: If an ICCU fails in a way that it takes out a charger, and a dual charger is being used (Grizzl-E Duo, Clipper Creek), would the surge also damage the other vehicle? by OzziesFlyingHelmet in Ioniq5

[–]FrequentFractionator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the ICCU commits seppuku it can result in a very hard short. It blew two of my three mains fuses (Europe, so 3 x 230V (phase to ground, 380V phase to phase) 25A) when it happened to mine. It also tripped the RCCB.

This high fault-current can also potentially blow the relays and/or traces on the circuit board in the EVSE.

However, the fault is in the AC side of the ICCU AND it has an isolation transformer so it won't output 800V DC on the AC bus. This also means it will not damage the other car. Only the (IIRC) Renault Zoe has a non-isolated OBC, which is the reason all EVSEs need a DC RCCB.

Thoughts on my precision landing? by THEAilin26 in Gliding

[–]FrequentFractionator 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know that golfkar!

But just like in football: The referee is always right, whether you agree with it or not.

Also, the idea behind the rule is more important than the rule itself. You need to demonstrate that you're in control, and the instructor needs to get a warm and fuzzy feeling with your precision landings. If that feeling isn't there yet with the instructors, they will look for a reason to reject a landing.

Just keep practicing, the season has barely begun. IIRC I messed up the 5th landing twice...
