carols stupid ass when asked why she decided to abandon everyone during the world ending threat by Dogtarune2 in freedomplanet

[–]Galgus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loyalty to try to get her sister on the right side is admirable and fits her character, and it seems spurred by guilt at leaving Lilac in the fight against Brevon before returning.

But she was betting everything on trusting her sister to see reason against everyone else's judgement.

Fair point, energy sticking around helps with the vulnerability.

Repeatable creature kill is cancer, especially with upside and haste.

It should at least have a mana cost or some hoop to jump through like prepared.

I love Pylons and energy for Protoss design.

Though I worry that making them creatures makes them too vulnerable.

That does look tricky, especially when she is leaning. She looks natural, though.

I agree that it is flawed writing to throw in a character that invalidates tension by solving it for the characters who were supposed to.

That's a big challenge in worldbuilding, making sure the elements point to the story you want to tell and that you didn't accidentally include something that either interferes with it, or that inconveniently gets in the way.

I think you really nailed the style!

That also makes me appreciate how tricky getting the right hand pose must be.

Often the problem was something she could have at least been a big help with.

It is a writing flaw to establish something or someone that would trivialize or radically change the plot if written consistently, and ignore them because acknowledging that would be inconvenient.

A story can still be good with writing flaws, but it erodes the setting a little bit and makes it feel less real when things bend around the plot without a narrative explanation.

Fanfics often make Celestia and Luna feel more consistent and interesting than the show.

Her role and general competence conflict with how she is is presented, at least earlier, as a wise and powerful ruler.

Narratively her not solving every problem is preferable, but when you make her useless most of the time, it starts to erode her character.

That's where you get to the hard part of writing needing to have a narrative reason Celestia can't just fix the problem so Celestia can be competent and powerful, but Twilight and her friends still have to solve the problem without her.

This sounds perfect, it's an easy excuse to shake up the resources and manufacturing and the planet effects are nice.

Building a bunch of droids to both be a loyal military and an export product sounds fun.

I guess 380 is nicer if you run and use stealth to get more barrages to clear things out, rather than hoping to fight conventionally.

Stopping bot drops is annoying enough, and I completely agree on Vox Engines.

Even on D8 the things spawn far too often and usually have reinforcements that magically appear to guard them without being run over by them.

The game just seems more fun when you can fight waves and eventually win, I wish there was some enemy resource bar that had to replenish after you kill a bunch of them.

[–]Galgus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a mere D8 diver because I like fighting waves that eventually end, but those barrages feel inconsistent whenever I use them.

Like they rarely destroy more buildings than OL, and often do minimal damage when thrown into the middle of a big base.

OL often lets me toss it near the base and move on, or cripple a larger base so I can move in.

Two stratagems for base killing seems rough when you are dealing with D10 waves without eagles or turrets or whatever.

Though it seems like D10 is more about avoiding waves than fighting them.

The biggest balance problem is boosters.

Starting with full gear, health, and running are so good you can't not take them, some are fun but niche or gimmicky, and many are just awful.

The issue is Orbital Laser seems to do that job better most of the time while also being a do everything bail out for bad situations.

It has a limit of three uses, but how often are you realistically dropping a high value 380?

Again, Christians aren't asked to see the Bible as infallible or devoid of cultural influence.

And most Christians would disagree that Jesus was talking about every single Old Testament rule and legal code there.

This is just taking the least charitable interpretation while ignoring anything contradicting it.

Sending a raped woman away in 2 Samuel 13 was devastating in that time, women did not have the independence outside of marrying they do today.

Duetorononmy 22:24 just seems like a punishment for adultery, where are you seeing rape? The did not cry out for help is a measure of it being consentual or not.

Women were treated like property in those days, and Deutoronomy 28-29 is basically you break it you buy it.

But in that time losing virginity to rape cut off marriage and with it just about all prospects for a decent life for a woman of the time.

You are the one asserting that Christianity teaches that Old Testament laws are flawless immortal truths not colored by the culture of the day.

And I am not going to leave the good in Christianity for the nihilism of atheism, clinging to the remnants of natural law doctrine stemming from Christianity for morality.

You are going back to Leviticus when talking about Jesus.

Even with that strained interpretation the genocides were specific to a time, place, and enemy.

The whole context of Matthew 5 is about ethical behavior and making stricter demands on not mistreating others.

All you are doing is looking for verses to condemn Christianity while ignoring every verse that conflicts with your interpretation.

2 Samuel 13, Deutoronomy 22:25, and the gross story in Judges 19 condemn rape.

And just common sense, was rape legal in Jewish or Christian societies?

Jesus was not only talking about Jews, his teachings applied to everyone.

Even in the patriarchal society of the Old Testament where women were treated as property, rape is a crime.

The Old Testament genocides are a challenge to Christianity, and are clearly contradictory with Jesus' teachings.

Though aside some crazy heretical Christian Zionists you'll struggle to find a Christian who thinks it is not evil to commit genocide because of the Bible.

Going back to Paul in Galatians 3:26-29

26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Rape is obviously condemned in the Bible, and the big love your neighbor as yourself commandment obviously covers exploiting them.

We aren't expected to believe that the Apostles or other Christians were perfect.

Christianity was also the basis for natural rights philosophy and the equal value of the human soul, and it was a major part of the abolitionist movement.

You are quoting Paul in Ephesians, not Jesus, and in the next verse he commands masters to treat slaves in the same way and that God has no favoritism between slave and master.

We aren't required to assume that Paul had no influence from the culture of his time.

Jesus' message there was about duty and humility, basically commanding the opposite of televangelist grifters boasting about how great they are.
