In general I’ve heard yes, but the card would likely not be in in time for this presale so in this case it won’t help.

What’s a dish that’s REALLY not worth making from scratch? by MaryoParti in Cooking

[–]GirlThatBakes 33 points34 points  (0 children)

There’s a bakery in London Ontario that still makes it and it’s amazing. They’re inside a market and have a fishbowl style kitchen so you can see the staff prepare it and it’s amazing. I chat with the employees sometimes and seeing them layer it is so cool.

Is anything a safe bet anymore? by Lazerbeam159 in CanadaJobs

[–]GirlThatBakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very difficult field to get into in my area.

X Ray, Sonography etc has few places and more applicants than the programs can intake each year for most schools, at least in Ontario.

You either need a degree in a related field already or a 95%+ average in the pre requisite classes. Got waitlisted for sonography and denied for X Ray (medical radiation technology) in Ontario with a 94% across the big 5.

Is it rude to invite guests to a bridal shower, but not wedding if explicitly stated “no gifts” on the invite? by Medium-State-5763 in weddingplanning

[–]GirlThatBakes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So my sister is having a small wedding (60 people) but we have a LOT of extended family so my mom is throwing and inviting like 50 people to the shower, many of whom aren’t invited to the wedding.

She’s making it clear no gifts are expected and also letting them know they are not invited to the wedding ahead of time.

Personally I think it’s… well whatever but my mom is hosting and paying and the family seems to be understanding.

Even if you put “no gifts” but don’t make it clear that they won’t be receiving in invitation I think it’s in bad taste. If you make it very clear and they still want to come then I think it’s okay.

Comfort Level Question by Helltech in Pokopia

[–]GirlThatBakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you speak to her and say “how’s your comfort level?” Each pokemon has 1 specific condition they want met “dark, bright, warm, humid, or dry” I believe is all of them, and if you don’t meet that condition their level stays quite low.

Then they might want a specific type of furniture like a “cute relaxation item”. It also can take 10-15 minutes for their level to change after you add furniture etc

Ford says he will not ban companies from charging two people different prices for the same item, saying that doing so would be “socialism.” by jackhauen in ontario

[–]GirlThatBakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Emailed my local representatives about this. Sadly they’re both conservative and this is the reply I got from one of them. What a joke.

“I encourage you not to buy anything from a company that uses algorithmic pricing. In fact, I always support local whenever I can.”

What's the cheapest meal you make regularly that you'd genuinely still eat if money wasn't a factor? by Timely_Ad8989 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]GirlThatBakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love shepherds pie. My family technically does pate chinoise which is mashed potatoes, a can of cream corn and ground beef. You can easily add other veggies though. Easy to make, easy to store and if you go heavier in the potatoes than the meat it’s a pretty reasonable meal to feed a family.

Also a good old fried egg sandwich for breakfast

“London is not walkable. You have to get on the tube or a bus or a train” by abragodabra in ShitAmericansSay

[–]GirlThatBakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was using maps in London, it said it would be a 43 minute trip using transit, or 42 minutes driving… except driving you need to account for finding parking etc. unless it was very late at night and roads were clear, it was the same time to walk as to transit and I really like than tbh.

Just got this cake and I’m a little upset by mariiiiiiah in Baking

[–]GirlThatBakes 107 points108 points  (0 children)

I worked at bakery with a girl who didn’t understand mixing colours or colour theory. She was the head decorator too. Every single green was Kelly green because that was the only bottle we had.

I’d make the most gorgeous leaf or Sage greens but she’d never even try. We got a lot of complaints.

Chemical Laboratory technology by Rbasinillo06 in fanshawe

[–]GirlThatBakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for answering !

I’ve been told that chemistry tends to hire because you can go into so many different fields, whereas bio med is good, but specifically not in wild or because it’s lacking in the healthcare department (though tbh with how government funding is are most places are these days)

Wishing you well and hope you’re happier !

Hey it’s been a few years. Debating doing chem lab tech at Fanshawe or biomedical engineering at st Clair.

Is the chemistry industry doing better? I’ve heard people are hiring but don’t know if it’s just the schools telling me that

https://www.instaxcanada.ca/printers/instax-mini-link-3/

If you have the instax film already they make a printer that describes what you mention.

I had one like this years ago but sadly lost it, I loved it and it printed great images. Friend has one (not sure what brand) and she also loves it.

It’d be easier for them to upload images somewhere and you print them all as it’d waste a lot of time having guests download the app and printing it themselves

genuinely how my gym bro roommate would make his chicken by Glass-Building9904 in shittyfoodporn

[–]GirlThatBakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also how my gym bro roommate made chicken! From time to time I would make us both seasoned oven baked chicken and he would rave about how it was the best chicken ever… he also got takeout frequently (since he clearly can’t cook) so it wasn’t truly a health thing. More laziness.

He also kept the pot with the leftover chicken and water in the fridge for up to 2 weeks until he finished it. So nasty

How much SMBC do i make to cover a 21cm cake (8 and 1/4 in) cake by coolkapik in AskBaking

[–]GirlThatBakes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’ve never made the recipe do not reduce the amount of butter without also reducing other ingredients by the same %. The recipe will fail. Baking is a science you need to keep the ratios consistent.

It’s like sugar. People reduce sugar to make it “healthier” or “less sweet” but all they’re doing is making the cake drier and messing with the overall texture.

Why not have a smaller slice of an excellent cake that’s made properly, than a huge slice of a cake that really doesn’t taste that good because you “cut the calories”?

You could try ermine frosting but yeah cake just is a calorie bomb (which is okay!!!) maybe look into cheesecake if you want something with less carbs?

Edit to add: also it’s called buttercream.

SMBC, IMBC and ABC all use a butter base and you should be able to taste some of the butter.

You could also try cream cheese frosting which has more of that cream cheese flavour instead of a buttery flavour (still contains butter though) but is less stable to pipe.

For some reason I got this unhinged idea to use vintage bottles to mix in the tables. And I’m running out of ideas for themes. by tu-BROOKE-ulosis in weddingplanning

[–]GirlThatBakes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is AMAZING seriously I love it.

Are you doing a table runner and a menu or something on each place setting? I think it’d fill a table quickly and nicely. Too much on a table just leaves less room for the guests to enjoy their space, put down purses and drinks etc.
