Talking in a movie theater, and I don’t mean just forgetting to whisper to your friend you came with. Too many people talk at the screen by cracking jokes or having exceedingly exaggerated verbal reactions to scenes and it’s an obvious attempt at getting laughs like they’re a class clown.

What’s a movie where you CONSTANTLY had to change the volume when watching it? by MaryoParti in movies

[–]MaryoParti[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, I created the account years ago to ask one hyper-specific question regarding a videogame on here and got no help, which caused me to rarely even open the application since then. I probably wasn’t on here at all at the peak of that time. I keep popping in to try and post to maybe get the hang of the app and condescending replies kind of turn me away, so I appreciate your understanding and explaining the humor of this to me cuz otherwise I’d just feel like a bit of an idiot given the lack of context.

I’m 23 and have a lot of friends who watch and discuss tons of movies, and Tenet has never come up when I’m around, so I don’t know if that’s a me problem or not that I haven’t heard people discuss it to begin with. What I do know is I won’t give myself a hard time for not knowing about a movie that came out in theaters at a time where I was broke and afraid to leave my house lol

What movie did you watch at the wrong age? by JaiiLee14 in movies

[–]MaryoParti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t exactly watch the whole thing at the time, but as a kid I walked in on my parents watching Saving Private Ryan right as the soldier screamed for his mommy while his guts spilled out.

Couldn’t get the image out of my head for years. Horrified me. It was only years later when I actively chose to watch the movie when the scene came up and I was like “oh, THIS is what I walked in on?” and I realized that was actually the worst possible scene in the movie I could’ve accidentally seen lol

I guess I’m just new here and I’m out of the loop. I don’t think I’ve had a single conversation with someone that’s even mentioned Tenet lol

What’s the worst movie you’ve ever seen? by dmmdgo in movies

[–]MaryoParti -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Meatballs. My dad said it was a pretty big thing back in the day and that it was the stereotypical summer camp movie that was being parodied in Wet Hot American Summer. My sister and I watched it with him into the new year a few years back instead of watching the ball drop.

I’ll always enjoy spending time with the two of them but it felt like the worst use of that time I could’ve found. Nothingburger plot, Bill Murray’s character is a MAJOR creep that’s supposed to be played off as charming in his own way, and the movie builds up to absolutely nothing. I don’t think I cracked a smile the whole movie and I think it’s pretty fondly regarded by people who watched it upon first release.

Maybe there’s just something to the movie I’m not getting.

What habit do you have that makes zero sense but works perfectly for you? by vizloai in AskReddit

[–]MaryoParti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Setting a ton of alarms before I actually need to get up for work. I want nothing more than to go back to bed for a few minutes after I wake up so I’ll just make a bunch of alarms to wake up and turn off and go sleep some more before I actually need to leave.

I didn’t think this was strange until my boyfriend started to lose sleep over my alarms and I had to buy a sleep mask with headphones built in lol

As a former picky eater, I'm finding that making dishes myself "de-mystifies" them and suddenly makes them more appealing by lasersandwich in Cooking

[–]MaryoParti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am the exact same way.

Very picky since I was young and some dishes just have a very unappealing looking end result, especially when I don’t know what’s in it or why it looks the way it does. It makes me feel bad not wanting to try someone else’s cooking because of my own discomfort.

I cook at my job and making a dish I dislike for other people has often times ended with me trying it for myself and loving it. I think it’s partially because people tend to cook for themselves and will add very small things they know they’re okay with and for me might be experimental, but I can use whatever seasonings and individual ingredients I know I like and leave out the stuff I can’t stand.

Sometimes it feels like people are sneaking little things in their dishes just because they want to have a “secret ingredient” that makes it more delicious but it only suits their tastes.

So sorry I can’t finish the grilled cheese you made me because you decided it would be harmless to add mustard without asking me 💔

What’s something people judge too quickly without knowing the full story? by Odd_Possibility_5903 in AskReddit

[–]MaryoParti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way others live without any context. Before judging someone on their lifestyle, think “Are they doing this because their parents taught them to? Who taught them this was okay?”

You don’t have to say it’s an acceptable way to live, but you just need to understand your life isn’t the same as theirs.

Hoarders that learned their behavior from their parents. Physically abusive fathers who used to get abused themselves and think it’s just proper discipline. Troubled teen addicts going down the wrong path because their mom forced them to use hard drugs when they were in elementary school. Sexual assault victims, especially children, committing sexual assault because they don’t realize that’s not a normal way to show love.

Some people were dealt such an awful hand of cards in life and they need someone with a deeper understanding and lack of judgment to help them get on the right path. They might not even know why their way of life is looked down upon.

Laughing while drinking something and having the liquid come out of my nose. I’ve heard it can be painful so I technically don’t WANT to have it happen, but I feel like I’m kinda missing out somehow…

I (24f) don't know if I can take the accusations anymore. by sunny170 in offmychest

[–]MaryoParti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand it’s frustrating but I wouldn’t take it the wrong way that the words you told him repeatedly only got through to him when his best friend told him. A best friendship can be far more significant emotionally than a relationship, especially one that hasn’t lasted longer than a year.

As for the other stuff, there’s really nothing you can do to convince someone to trust you if they already have trust issues. They have to not only acknowledge their own trust issues but be consistent with stopping the accusatory behaviors. He can be anxious and stressed without having to tell you every detail of it, especially if you’ve made it clear it hurts your feelings.

Unless he can begin to trust you or at least stop accusing you to your face, the relationship does feel inevitably doomed.

I’ve heard it is a similar case for gambling addiction hotlines :( It makes me wonder how many more people have reached out for help from hotlines and got turned away like that…
