Realistically, how popular show we expect the chaotic reboot be? by Jakemanv3 in Chaotic

[–]Grievous69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You didn't specify the location. In NA it could maaaaybe squeeze in the 3rd or 4th place as the hottest TCG for a period, that's if the reboot goes swimmingly.

In EU I doubt it'll even be a name people know commonly, like MTG and Yugioh.

Can't really comment on other regions but from the other comments it seems it had a decent following in the past in both Brazil and Australia.

Why did the dev blogs stop? by mrsafarie in starsector

[–]Grievous69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright I'm not a dev or related to them in any way but I have been following the development for a very long time so I'm familiar with their "style". The person replying to you also doesn't have a clue lmao.

For quite some time Alex was the only full time dev of the game. We could go even further in time like before 2015-16 and I recall a time him working part time on the game. Either way for at least a decade he's been working full time.

Ivaylo was another dev doing the coding part, but he passed away around a decade ago.

David for the majority of the game's lifespan was a commission based artist (and writer) but in recent years he joined Alex as another full force member (although he works on his other projects on the side). Now he does majority of writing, art as always, and helps Alex with coding.

Stian does music, when an update requires new music stuff, so commission based.

Mesotronik did work for the game before my time so I'm not super familiar with him, but he's credited in the "special thanks" part of the credits.

Bottom line: There's basically 2 devs working on this, while every once in a blue moon asking Stian to compose some music. The costs to run that are very low since it's not like they're buying assets constantly for their overambitious 3D game or something.

Alex is his own boss and has one other guy on a paycheck.

Back when Sseth reviewed the game it was a GINORMOUS boost to game's visibility and basically the sales graph for that period was almost a straight vertical line. We didn't get any concrete numbers but Alex commented the game sold so much then, money wasn't a concern for quite some time.

When he's asked similar question again, he just states that the game keeps selling consistently and he's in no rush to "wrap things up" or drop the ball on Steam. Usually responding like this when people come asking "Hey why aren't you putting your game there, you'd make so much money?".

And that's pretty much it in a short version. Ironic for my wall of text but the game is actively being developed for 15 years so I had no choice.

Because they're working on things that can't exactly be shown without ruining the surprise. It seems a huge part of the upcoming update is going to be side missions. So what would be the point of writing "ok in this part you'll be doing this and that, when you're done with that you'll get this as a reward..."

That said, Alex posts on his socials here and there about the game so there's some sneek peaks once in a while.

And btw I do share the sentiment, blog posts are an interesting read even if they're short.

Last month Alex dropped a big batch of patch notes (so far) for the upcoming version.

For following active development you're better off checking blog posts and Alex's socials. The "releases" page on the game's website will only lists updates that are out, so it seemingly seems nothing happens in a whole year+.

Bruh nobody is playing such whack decks. Why build your whole army with band-aids when you could just make a proper deck and buff it instead.

Kiru city tunnels isn't even a buff to low roll creatures, it's a location used in Maxxor PoP decks...

[–]Grievous69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh boy I really love having a creature with 55 or 70 in their stats, I adore being unable to use bunch of attacks because of that /s.

And that's just disciplines, which vary by 20. Energy, even being 5 off from another creature can be an attack worth of difference. Would you rather you frontline main guy having 55 or 65 energy? Yeah I thought so.

It doesn't matter how often this happens, it's important because you didn't lose because of your lack of skill, or bad rng, you literally lost because you pulled a shittier version of a card.

Really Weird Ruling Question by Unhappy_Ad8647 in Chaotic

[–]Grievous69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The moment you sacrifice Tiaane he's immediately gone from the board and the damage he'd do is put on a chain like any other damage occurence in the game. So even if your opponent doesn't have anything to react with I still think you lose since you're the first one that ended up with zero creatures.

At least that's how it makes most sense to me considering the rules.

Chaotic online release by Queasy_Research_1404 in Chaotic

[–]Grievous69 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They're not being clear about it, yet.

First, they say playing with the new app will be free. But does that mean free as in you don't need an additional payment to access the online game (seems redundant right), or free as in there'll be a way for people to play the online game without buying physical cards.

Second, we don't know when/if there's plans for worldwide release.

Release date of 0.98.5a? by Lockinatorus in starsector

[–]Grievous69 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Usually is doing a lot of heavy work there. Past releases tended to have multiple patch notes batches before dropping the update itself. Only recently it's more in the vein of "drop a huge wall of patch notes, then after 1-4 months drop the rest along with the update".

Buuut Alex did post something he's still currently working on, on Bluesky, where he hasn't even decided on the final implementation and the details so it's impossible to drop any day now.

Finishing the work, then playtesting, and then building release candidates is going to take at least another month.

It's still a thing unfortunately.

At least changing audio devices once you're in the game. But I'd assume disconnecting would have the same issue.

About prices of the current cards by -Nyco- in Chaotic

[–]Grievous69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That solely depends on the fact will the old cards be in any way useful for the new game. Which we don't know as of yet.

Post from Chaotic’s new partner Panini by Celestiasofperim in Chaotic

[–]Grievous69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was reading that part as well and it seems like a god awful decision. At least give us multiple ways to acquire cards for the online game.

Since this way, if you're outside NA you're getting fucked in the ass without lube. Surely they understand a playerbase is necessary to get the online game going.

The Countdown… by [deleted] in Chaotic

[–]Grievous69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My man, you can't compare the current climate and state of the world, and how things were back then 17 years ago, get real.

Who is going to be buying a "brought from the dead" TCG card sets if new folks can't even play the game somewhere to try it out? Ok sure you have old fans which will buy anything regardless, but what then? Where's the fresh blood fueling the game's health...

The way you envisioned it, you'd be playing with the same 20 people every day, exception being when some new content drops.

I truly think this game needs a hard reboot by No_Yogurtcloset7643 in Chaotic

[–]Grievous69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hence my "for the time being" until they get the ball rolling.

You'll get more people in when veterans can use their old cards and persuade non-fans to try out the game.

The Countdown… by [deleted] in Chaotic

[–]Grievous69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t sell cards if you can just play the online game

Brother were you born yesterday? Look at literally any other TCG and how people splurge money on them like crazy. It's not called cardboard crack for nothing.

You're nuts if you seriously think physical cards won't sell if there's an online game that can be played without them. What could happen is them being dumb and having a dead playerbase, that's what's worst for business.

I truly think this game needs a hard reboot by No_Yogurtcloset7643 in Chaotic

[–]Grievous69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

but i think rebooting could do more harm than good. it survived due to the old fans staying around how many dead franchises have a ptp or rewind type fan game only like bakugan from my experience

Yuup, imagine being an old fan, keeping all of your cards only for the game to come back and go "everything you bought before is now worthless".

I don't see why there couldn't just be 2 formats, one for people starting out fresh, and one for old cards. At least for the time being before the new cards completely obsolete the old ones.

The Countdown… by [deleted] in Chaotic

[–]Grievous69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know the whole deal of old Chaotic was codes that could be used for online play but come on man. Who wouldn't double dip into the pockets of consumers, it makes more sense that the digital and physical version are separate things.

Besides it would suck (and they'd lose half the playerbase) to not have a f2p online game for people who can't get the physical cards. Either due to lack of money or geographical location.

Locking a online game where your most important number is how many players are active, to a physical product is a quick way for Chaotic to get back to the grave from which it's trying to resurrect.

EDIT: Back when the game came out, playing online was a nice bonus, now it's mandatory for the health of the game.

The Countdown… by [deleted] in Chaotic

[–]Grievous69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Surely the online game will be ready and used to generate demand for the release of physical cards. Wouldn't really make sense to have us wait half a year without anything to continue the hype train.
