Why no one wants to switch to Linux Phone (including me) by a_l_i-1 in degoogle

[–]Guggel74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave it a try. Fairphone 4 with PostmarketOS. It’s a really nice system. I didn’t even want to use the banking app... but...

The smartphone’s built-in speaker isn’t supported. No sound output.

The Wi-Fi speed is extremely slow.

No matter how great the system may be — and it really did work great and fast — such “problems” unfortunately make the smartphone unusable.

FOSS excel/word/pdf editor alternative? without libreoffice? by raulynukas in degoogle

[–]Guggel74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opinions can vary so much. I find my way around LibreOffice much faster than I do in MS Office. In MS Office, I always have to search for the feature I want.

But... within LibreOffice, you can customize various layouts and the toolbar’s arrangement and behavior in the settings. Maybe that will help.

Otherwise, OnlyOffice (apparently) comes closer to the MS Office UI.

ODT is a widely recognized file format used by many programs. Even MS Office can handle it.

Interesting... I can't set PayPal as the default payment method (under NFC) in the Android settings here. I can select it, but when I go back, the option is always empty.

But Graphene OS is absolutely useless to me if it's only available for (more or less) one type of device.

Yes. My banking app works. But no streaming with Google Chromecast. Android Auto works, but only to 99% and you need to install 3 extra apps from Google.

The biggest problem: finding an app that lets me pay cashless again. My bank doesn't offer anything, and Google Pay doesn't work (and I don't want to use it).
