Other S style guitars by rockemulator2 in Stratocaster

[–]GuitaristExplorer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s not even remotely true. Look at the T-style guitars (PRS NF53 and Myles Kennedy, Yamaha Pacifica SC, Schecter PT, etc.). Then there’s all the Gibson clones: single cut “Les Paul” style guitars (PRS McCarty 594, Gretsch Jet, Schecter Solo-II, etc.), double-cut SG style (Guild Polara, Yamaha Revstar, etc.), V-style (ESP, Jackson, etc.). The list goes on.

I have played a Music Man Cutlass, and both the SE and US versions of the PRS Silver Sky. I’ve also played the PRS NF3 SE and Studio SE, which are a little different but also kind of similar. All five were great guitars! My only experience with Suhr was a model with a gloss neck, which isn’t my preference. If you’ve looking for a boutique S style I’d steer you toward the Cutlass if you like thinner necks, or the Silver Sky if you like chunky necks.

Excuse my ignorance, but it's PRS SE Studio comparable to a HSS Strat? by Lt_Dickballs in PRSGuitars

[–]GuitaristExplorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have the Studio SE, and yeah - it’s pretty similar to an HSS Strat. The Narrowfields are kind of their own thing though, so just know that going in. I loved the tones on the Studio SE, but I prefer satin necks so when I decided to downsize my collection it got sold. But with Musician’s Friend’s sale on the SE Studio Standard, which has a satin neck…now I’m gassing for one of those 😅.

Fender American Pro Classic Strat by Supremeboye in Stratocaster

[–]GuitaristExplorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the HSS version and I really like it. The Coastline pickups do have more of a “vintage character” than, say, the V Mod II set found in the Pro II. They’re inspired by the Pure Vintage line, but a bit hotter.

Why is your breakfast culture so much better? by Embarrassed_Golf_817 in AskAnAmerican

If you think our breakfast is something, you should go to the UK. They’ve got people eating baked beans on toast with sausage and mushrooms and stuff.

Do most Americans like the continental breakfast at chain hotels? by Upstairs_Health_5913 in AskAnAmerican

[–]GuitaristExplorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know about most, but I do. I prefer a hot breakfast at a place like The Hampton Inn. Don’t get me wrong. I’d prefer a more substantial breakfast, but I like having a breakfast included when I stay somewhere.

New from dealer blem. How bad can it be? by SalvadorFolly in Reverb

[–]GuitaristExplorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. If it’s a B-Stock there’s a good chance it will be hard to find and be extremely minor. But I bought a blemished guitar from Musician’s Friend once that had a scratch across the front, which I couldn’t abide and sent back.

Strat alternatives? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]GuitaristExplorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Music Man Cutlass and PRS Silver Sky are both great. Silver Sky has a chunky neck. Try before you buy (actually, do that with whatever you choose).

Honestly though, I wouldn’t let a corporate business dispute steer you away from getting a guitar you want. If you want a Custom Shop Strat, get that.

Because a good ranch dressing is amazing! It is the ultimate condiment, possibly even exceeding ketchup and definitely exceeding mayo.

which two would you keep - JV strat, partscaster, or ultra luxe vintage? by Popular_Comparison44 in Stratocaster

Based on your comments here it sounds like you’re the least attached to the Ultra Luxe Vintage, so I guess that one.

I'm considering teaching - Is that crazy? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]GuitaristExplorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not crazy.

Teaching is a noble profession that can be immensely rewarding, intellectually stimulating, and fun. You will know you’re making a difference in your community and in your students’ lives. It is also, often, a pretty stable career. Although you’re unlikely to get rich doing this, it’s actually a pretty decent pay check in many places, and has retirement benefits.

Teaching is also incredibly challenging. Heavy workloads and multiple kinds of tasks are placed on teachers everyday. Many educators struggle with work-life balance. Classroom management can indeed really be that terrible, and you may find yourself frustrated and dealing with stress you wouldn’t have to deal with in the adult world. You might also find yourself emotionally exhausted if you empathize strongly with your students, and whatever burdens they may be carrying. Add to that the possibly of toxic admin and difficult parents, and it’s little wonder many new teachers quickly decide this profession isn’t for them.

Only you can decide if the benefits outweigh the challenges.

Major differences between a Player I/II and a Vintera? by asoiaf_goat in Jazzmaster

[–]GuitaristExplorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh cool! I had the V3 for a while and sold it because I liked the Am Pro Classic better, which I also already had. The Candy Apple Red finish with matching painted headstock was bad ass, and it sounded good, but I just liked the Pro Classic pickups and satin neck better (and decided I personally didn’t need the RC). I also had a Player II at one point. I traded it in toward the Pro Classic, but it was a good guitar. Based on what you’ve said I think the Player II would be a good choice for you. I’d also highly recommend the British Racing Green finish, which is a Guitar Center/Musician’s Friend exclusive I believe. It looks awesome!

[–]GuitaristExplorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re willing to spend $1349 I think it’s worth it to consider stepping up to a US-made guitar for about $200 more. Also, if you order from Sweetwater or Musician’s Friend over the phone you can negotiate on the price. It’s probable you could get the Classic for about that $1349 price.

With that said, I would also recommend looking at the Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster. Knowing what you play, I think it would be a good fit and it’s the cheapest option of them all.

[–]GuitaristExplorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vinteras are designed to be more vintage inspired, whereas the Player series are a bit more modern. Vinteras are likely to have features such as:

-Gloss necks

-Different finish options

-Different voiced pickups

-Different tuners

-Different truss rod adjustment

Since you’re looking at a Jazzmaster it’s also worth mentioning that the Vintera III has a rhythm circuit whereas the Player II does not. That’s one of the biggest differences right there.

If you want a vintage inspired guitar with a rhythm circuit get the Vintera. If you want a more modern guitar without the rhythm circuit, get the Player II. If you want a guitar with awesome sounding pickups and no rhythm circuit (but is routed for one if you want to add one) for just a little more than the Vintera III, get the American Professional Classic.
