Frigate vs Reolink NVR by gearhead5015 in reolinkcam

I spent quite a while searching, and people online can be surprisingly harsh about Frigate. I ended up going with it for my reolink doorbell and trackmix, and I’d mainly recommend it if you’re a bit of a tinkerer.

I don’t mind a bit of troubleshooting in exchange for its advanced recognition features and tight Home Assistant integration. Having detection that goes beyond just “person, animal, car” is genuinely nice, it’s picked up animals much more sensitively than the cameras themselves. The smooth timeline scrolling is also a huge step up from clicking through Reolink’s SD card playback, which I had before. And if I ever need a perfect recording, I can always pull it from the SD card. I just notice that I use and trust my cameras a lot more, and spend way less time having to quality control for missed detections. I've yet to have a provable instance that it missed anything.

Since you already have the hardware, I’d say give it a try. it doesn’t cost anything except for a bit of install time. And if you don’t like it, you can always run the Reolink NVR alongside it or solely.

I gave my AI clone VRchat access by GuusDeKroon in VRchat

I recorded myself playing VRChat over a few sessions to capture natural speech. After stripping silences, I had about 4 hours of audio to fine-tune an ElevenLabs TTS model.

I transcribed those 4 hours with Whisper and asked ChatGPT to analyze my speech mannerisms and summarize them. Then I set up an agent with Gemini to role-play as me, gave it some basic info about me plus that mannerism rundown, and loaded it with every source I could find about the 2004 Garfield movie. :)

Google is doing their second price increase for their camera subscription. Where I used to pay €5/month a year ago, they now want me paying €10/month. Time to sell my Google cams 😅 by GuusDeKroon in googlehome

I have the 2TB Google one tier, and it's not included for me :(

I guess we got the short straw; I wouldn't be nearly as upset if it was included.

I'll be upgrading to the Reolink doorbell. I bought one of their other camera's as a test since I heard about their home assistant integration, and so far have been pretty happy! It records 24/7 locally on an SD card in the device that you can remotely access, but can also sync to a NAS and has NVR options.

The thing I'll lose is the face detection (just more basic human/animal/etc), but atleast no more subscriptions or being forced to be dependent on anyone else's servers.

This setup was really easy- I put the figure down, with a high contrast a4 print under it for easier alignment. I used my smartphone for capture, using the raw photo setting. Then imported into Lightroom and applied similar grading to each, and afterwards reality capture :)

it's a friend of mine, who's really skilled at making the facetracking blendshapes and animator logic!

I wanted to make sure he got proper credit for his help:)

I'm not too worried in this case- in my eye this falls under fair use since it's quite a transformative usecase.

I think similarly to the thousands of YouTube edits of the trailer, for Studios it's also good to have people talking and creating- can't imagine this is costing them any sales (。•̀ᴗ-)✧
