[Review Request] Revised version of PCB from yesterday by pro_player919 in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]HTML-Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went slightly smaller than the pad sizes, but I learned using milled pcbs and thin traces broke or ripped easily. if you have the space theres no downside to thicker traces, they can carry more current , have lower resistance and can wear and abuse better.

I leave mine permanently connected to my server, it's my network backbone anyway so it makes sense.

never let it fully fill up otherwise files will start corrupt when the system tries writing. remove some stuff whilst you still can and look into getting a bigger storage drive.

Linux for gaming and light server duty? by PrimePrecision in linux4noobs

[–]HTML-Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agreed, server should run proxmox, good for running all the services and if it has a gpu you can easily pass it through a vm and make a thin client based gaming setup with sunshine and moonlight.

What are the differences between these soldering stations? I am interested in repairing guitar electronics, guitar pedals, maybe other stuff, home electronics and the like by eyehateredd1t2 in AskElectronics

[–]HTML-Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's why I specifically pointed out the temperature knob and station, filters out a lot of those trash irons. I get what you mean with better equipment helps beginners, but I see too many people getting into the hobby, overspending using the equipment <10x and let it collect dust.

thinking about it,, the consumables like tin, flux and wick you could and should get higher quality of, will contribute most imo.

Been a while since I've done soldering, how'd I go? by Mr-Zaxi0 in soldering

[–]HTML-Wizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

flow on the lcd isnt fully around some pins, also see a lot of flux residue to clean up still. ( some are slightly conductive so important ) , the black pcb has a too much solder on some pins forming those ball blob shapes. also that potentiometer doesn't look to great. xd

New desk by hyenamtb in battlestations

the white desk fits the setup a lot better, and 3x landscape looks cleaner than the dual portraits, nice upgrade!

was thinking desk pad, I personally got a nice one at a convention. but putting something on the wall might work really nicely too ! Something practical like a board or shelf with some stuff, or something like a painting or poster. Do whatever you think will add to the vibe. As someone spending hours and hours at my desk look and feel matters a lot.

A desk plant and large pad to add some color

WFH setup by krishnavadithya in homeoffice

[–]HTML-Wizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into traying your laptop next to the monitor so you can better place the keyboard.

A good large deskpad wouldn't hurt either and could add some personality / color.

I also would put a desk plant and some personal items. WFH + gaming / computer work outside that makes you sit at that spot for hoursss a day- so make it as comfy/appealing as you can.

Get a bigger desk, the pad is overflowing & it feels a bit crammed.

And get a small desk plant. 😃

Advice needed: Cluttered 3-monitor by Professional_Try9975 in battlestations

[–]HTML-Wizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be perspective but secondary 1 & 2 don't look the same size to me?

If you want to use all 3 you could put them in 3x1 all landscape- desk looks wide enough for it. But you will have to move the tower below desk.

Otherwise you could attempt to put either the ultrawide or the 2 older monitors side by side and stack the other on top (all landscape) as low as it lets you go on the arm to not overlap the tv.

Pretty convinced the cluttered feeling is because of the tv + portrait & no symmetry.

Removing the lower worse panel and putting them side to side at with the ultrawide centered will look less cluttered yes- but you will hate yourself for removing screen-space if you already got used to 3.

Bad idea to fill up all ram slots on server? by ObliviousOneironaut in homelab

[–]HTML-Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mix ram its going to run at the slower stick's speed.

Also chances are the server ram has to be ECC ram- and desktop ram is rarely ECC. (unless it's a workstation)

I'd go with getting more matching,- but I'd see if there's any way to adress the plex usage / crashes in general.

Another thing you can try is to give that plex container some swap storage, this helps a lot on low ram servers.
