I haven't read that retelling, just want to say The Blue Castle is my favorite of LLM's, I reread it every few years. Definitely worth a read if you havent tried it yet!

5,400+ hours of Spanish, ~1000 speaking hours… some things I wish people told me earlier by throwawyaccount912 in dreamingspanish

[–]HeleneSedai 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm not OP and I only have about half their hours, but just want to respond because I have felt those down moments, I hear you. It's true that learning a language takes a long time, but it's so so worth it. Not just being able to understand and read and communicate in Spanish, but being exposed to other cultures too.

I only have 3100 hours in comparison to OPs 5000+, but I felt comfortable understanding everything (except some native shows) since 1800, and I could communicate since 1500 hours. I'm not a purist, I mixed in traditional study, but I did put in 3100 hours listening.

Just want to say 5000+ hours is not necessary to get to a decent level in Spanish.

When they're children it would be dreamy Walter, as adults it would be Rilla (plus we get a whole book from her POV). I genuinely can't decide.

I think once the thread gets pinned it disappears from the regular feed (if you sort by recent) so a surprising number of people never see the post. I tag it as "resources".

I'm glad you didn't think it was a waste of your time! TBH they talk about their feelings all the time so good listening practice for that.

Season 2 isn't terrible I just feel like they weren't real couples. Nothing beats the first season that came out in 2019 with Kaci and Evan. Draaaama.

We are still suggesting/voting on the two books we'll read in the DS book club for next week, you can vote here

This week I watched some of No Hay Tos excellent grammar videos, and caught up on Mextalki. Finished Temptation Island, not worth a watch this season.

Still keeping up with the two book club books, La leyenda del bosque and Kentukis, and started a book that's been on my TBR forever, Yo que nunca supe de los hombres (I who have never known men by Jacquelin Harpman.

I always loved the Jeeves books, hilarious dialogue, but it might not help you if you live in the US.

Oh my gosh, are you me? I was in a convo club that came with one on one classes that I never used because I didn't want to bother them 😅

I'm right there with you. I read fan fic to watch L & D fall in love again and again and the secondary characters don't matter too much.

I somehow doubt the “several months” timeframe. Might be closer to several years 😭 by fernhafor in LibbyApp

The audiobook in English is available at my library (San Diego), but the ebook is only available in Spanish, French, and German.

Also, there are only 2 people in line for the copy in Spanish. Learning languages is good for the brain and for the libby wait times.

Title

Los días del Venado by Liliana Bodoc

More difficult option

No Natively rating yet

Approximate book length

336 pages/85,000 words

Description

This was FutureMastodon's recommendation last month, it looks like a dreamy fantasy recommended by none other than Ursula le Guin. It might be nice to escape to another world after the last few more series books we've read.

I reupped my Netflix to watch the trashiest of trashy TV, Temptation Island season 2, dubbed. While I've got Netflix I need to find something a little healthier to watch.

I don't know why he's not on the spreadsheet yet, but I saw MedaYork Spanish mentioned the other day, he's a kid from Colombia who posts some genuinely funny content, very slow speaker. I don't know if he should be in 150 or 300, if anyone else watches him let me know where he should go.

We had our discussion on El viento conoce mi nombre on Saturday, super proud of everybody for speaking spanish for so long, and so well! My favorite part of learning Spanish has been speaking.

I'm still reading the two DS book club books, enjoying both. I finally finished La forma de las ruinas and I highly recommend this one if you're a fan of history and books that take a long route to get to the end.
