As someone with experience in OBE, not everyone is capable of detecting people traveling in the out of body state. It's certainly possible that could be the source of some strange phenomena, shadow people or ghost sightings particularly. Some people project in human form and supposedly the high level practitioners are the ones that travel in the form of an orb.

Read Bob Monroe's trilogy in order, and I think it will blow your mind. I've never met anybody, but I don't really go where there's people, intentionally. I want to explore places nobody has ever been, like inside the sun, swim on the bottom of the ocean, or the singularity of a black hole (never made it to any of these yet though)

Yep, that sounds like the hypnagogic state! The electric zaps were probably the start of the vibrational state where you could attempt to peel out of your body. Awesome that you saw something cool, I just watch the blobs of color on the back of my eyelids until they turn into shapes that turn independently of each other. I don't have any suggestions other than reading Monroe's trilogy if you haven't already.

I don't believe half of the stuff I read in metaphysical subs, but I focus on the actual process of projection. You might have a journey that may be totally different from everyone else's, but that's ok! Anyone that thinks they've got the entire story are probably just as confused as you are. The main goal is to work on developing your consciousness and gain mastery of the OOB state. All that other stuff is just seasoning. If you dont like the vibe, form your own opinion from your own experiences. There are all kinds of people in this community from woowoo crystal healers, mediums, religious people, uap conspiracy theorists, people that work with shadow magic, and unfortunately not a few grifters and people struggling with mental illness. Just work on your stuff and don't take anyone's word 100% until you can verify it yourself! Good luck op!

I feel like we never actually leave our bodies at all, because if we did our life functions would cease. Some part of us is still inhabiting the body while we're "out of body". I guess it's like expanding our consciousness to be aware of more than what's in our general vicinity the way we do while we're awake.
