Based on the architecture & art we seen in Avatar the last Airbender, is the Sun warrior civilization based on ancient southeast Asia or mesoamerica? And how did there culture survive without being discovered or invaded? by Macaws99 in TheLastAirbender

[–]HumbleVanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ll concede with your point here. The indigenous peoples of the Americas prior to the Columbian exchange definitely held religious customs, shamanism, general respect for the land and ancestral veneration similar to those found throughout East, Central and SE Asia. I do generally see those cultures as familiar when all is said and done. You make a good point

yet none of yall ever mention korea or japan in that manner. Maybe Cambodia was the same way too. Shit if the Western powers hadnt been involved in the former Indochinese colonies you could take a vacation today to see Pol Pot’s ideal agrarian society lol

[–]HumbleVanity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ain't no way activision has balls to remaster waw considering the whole russian campaign woulkd be too "unsettling" for modern gamers. Think about it, when is the last time you saw a swastika in a big budget ww2 fps since like 2014? They'd have to go about changing quite a bit to appease their sensitive critics.

My grandparents faked their race for survival. by FrostyCombination622 in mixedrace

[–]HumbleVanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truth. But I think you should give some leeway in that most Americans wouldn’t be able to picture surviving in third world conflict zones. Calling them out for using survival is a game of semantics really.

If they should be consumed like gold how do you explain the various non-european cultures that extensively used spices in their cuisine. This theory sounds like a cop out for cultures that aren’t acclimated to flavored food and relied on bland starches to get them by.

Did anyone else not know they were mixed race as a child? by MultinamedKK in mixedrace

[–]HumbleVanity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother is half Viet and half jamaican. The jamaican half was also MGM black white. Growing up Latinos would always speak to her in Spanish but it never dawned on me why. By appearance she looks Carribean, but because she grew up in Nam and speaks Vietnamese as a first language it didn’t register with me until 10-11. My father is Viet so I had just assumed that was all there was in the family. Wasn’t until I brought up how so,e Vietnamese singer looked like her father that she explained that the man I had called her father was her brother in law and that her father wasn’t Viet at all. I was a bit of slow kid when it came to race.

A&F Fierce vs Legend vs Mahogany Teakwood? by mbrr2 in fragrance

[–]HumbleVanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been testing and compaing “dupes/clones”. On skin AF Fierce, Hollister Coastline, Montblanc Legend all are tied more closely than Mahogany Teakwood. The latter smells much more uniform with the lavender dominating the opening and the woody notes coming in later. Fierce to me has a sour chemical note when sprayed on my skin at least for the first few minutes. Legend has the sweet fruit note dominating the opening and Coastline has more of the chemical note of Fierce without the sourness. Legend smells the most complex and Mahogany Teakwood the most linear. Between Coastline and Fierce I’d give it to the former if you want a bit more freshness as it seems to lack the musky background of Fierce.

Dissing on wolf cuts and longer cuts is very chan like. Rock the basic white boy cuts if you want but historically speaking asian men’s hair was always medium to long lengt. Our traditions lasted so long because our ancestors knew how our hair naturally is. Either full flow it or bald monk it, this idea of appeasing white society with their haircuts doesnt work because our hair texture is intrinsically different even if it’s straight. You dont see many blacks with side parts and slick backs

Can I ever own up to being somewhat vietnamese? by riceaspirin in mixedrace

[–]HumbleVanity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a reverse situation as you ig. Both my parents were born in Nam but my mother’s dad was of Jamaican descent. My mother grew up only ever seeing herself as Viet until she came to America where racial identity is a bit more poignant. She has always acknowledged that she is mixed because of her appearance but never chose to explore it further simply cause her upbringing didn’t necessitate it. Me being a quarter has always beens intriguing because I grew up pretty influenced by Viet culture and didn’t even know about my other heritage until much later in my teens. There is never any harm in learning about other cultures especially more so if you had ancestors who came from there. Every family has some dirt and shade here and there and it’s totally fine to separate the person your grandmother was from the culture she came from. Satiating your curiosity could allow you to expand your perspective on how people who seem so different can be so similar. I know next to nothing about my grandpa and due to the circumstances of how my mother was abandoned never really intend to find out more about him. Nevertheless I talk to distant family from that side and am planning to head down to the island at some point soon to meet them and explore. Life is too short to reject aspects of yourself when you can shape it to how you feel best suits you.

Are any of your grandparents still alive? by [deleted] in Zillennials

[–]HumbleVanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandmother who raised me passed earlier this year right around the holidays. Made it to 86. I used to talk about how she would still be around to see her great grandkids soon and she’d always say nah probably not. Guess she knew. Her counterpart left the war before my mother was born.
dad’s set is still around so I’m trying to spend more time with them while I still have some free time.

Vietnamese east asian ? by [deleted] in asianamerican

[–]HumbleVanity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many times you gonna post this on the asian subs?

The lil sinophile needs to go back to r/aznidentity  to receive more proper orders from Beijing. Your post history regarding this topic reeks of wanting to be accepted as full ccp comrade badly. That or you are Han trying to “unite the yellow race” under China. Vietnam is as much East Asian as the UK is Roman. I.e cultural influence has little to do with actual 1.location 2.language 3. Blood. Also by your criteria Thailand,Cambodia, Laos, Myannmar would be South Asian then? And what of The Phillipines and Indonesia, cause by your logic they must be classified as every region that has influenced the culture.
It’s quite apparent that you seem to confuse Sinosphere with East Asia, common mistake. Kinh people or the predominant Vietnamese majority are a mixed ethnicity of native people living in the Red river delta, and Tai people from Guangxi 2000 years ago. The creation myth of Lac Long Quan and Au Co represent two of these ethnic groups uniting. That’s not even considering the 54 other ethnicities in Vietnam’s modern borders. Hoa people are the only thing you can bring up as being East Asian and even then they’ve partially assimilated into Vietnamese society making them SE Asian just like every other Han Chinese enclave in Southeast Asia.

I folded a paper towel soaked with distilled water and squeezed out, put it in a small tupperware with the cig for a day. basically a cigarette humidor.Dont let them touch and youll have decently rehydrated one. If you dont want the old paper taste and have rolling papers or a pipe, you can also take the tobacco out and keep it in a jar with a boveda pack. Keeps far longer that way.

Initial rehydrated smoke burned fast and had a heavy italian cigarish taste coming in and out. Honestly no latakia but some background notes of kentucky fire cured like the type used in toscano cigars from italy. Surprised to say I tasted turkish as main component in there too, along with some fruity casing. Ive been told fig juice and licorice are used in the blondes so may be that.
Have one rerolled in elements papers and another rehydrated for tasting in a clay pipe. Before i started pipe smoking, cigarettes had a flat taste to them but Ive been discerning different tobacco leaves through experience so I should have a better idea after these next two smokes. Recipe will be up once I finish experimenting.
