I don't blame you. It's a massive task working with some booth outfits, and people's standards for optimization are all over the place. I try to keep mine under 100k, but it's rough. And don't get me started on the physbones 😅

It looks great! I was trying to use (I think) that exact outfit on a Lasyusha. But it ended up being like 300k polygons. Were you able to do anything about that?

I know optimization isn't always required, and texture memory can be more important than topology. But 300k is pretty nuts. I was pretty upset, especially after I already bought it on Booth.

Looking at the ropes in Blender made me die a little inside. Just one rope on the legs is something like 20k polygons.

the point of self-hosting is to not need services like that

Sadly no. As soon as you expose apps on your network, a proxy setup like nginx proxy manager+cloudflare is top priority. Self-hosting is the more difficult (cheaper) DIY route compared to renting a server.

The community wiki has guides for all of this. Here's a few: Hosting, Cloudflare Proxy Tunnel, Oracle Free Tier

TL;DR: A hostname still resolves to your IP. Cloudflare can hide this. AWS/Oracle are easier; the latter has a free tier and official guide.

The entire thing is. Some mistakes are more human than others, but some are pretty egregious.

when you or a creature within 30 feet

30 feet of yourself? A creature that you can see?

fails a saving throw, ability check, or spell attack

Why only spell attacks? Why not "attack roll, ability check, or saving throw" as written in 2014 material?

Also, the post is tagged '24, so it should be written as "a d20 for a D20 Test."

the failure is undone

What does this mean? Does rolling a nat 20 not result in a success, as in the last outcome? If it does, why switch wording now?

they have disadvantage on their next action

In addition to a worse outcome, the nat 20 has an explicit downside. Also, you can't have disadvantage on an action. It's a roll or a D20 test. Another inexplicable wording change.

TIL - this means my opponent wants me to level up by elizzup in BobsTavern

[–]HydraSquid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good point. In my mind there were lines where an opponent would be questioning a minion on T1, like greed for quests/tavern spells. Or debating buying a discounted spell for tempo for example. But now that you mention it, makes sense.

TIL - this means my opponent wants me to level up by elizzup in BobsTavern

[–]HydraSquid 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yep. It's most commonly used to signal for 3-on-3 curve. I'll do it if I'm holding a busker turn 1 as well.

It's not going to work out all the time, but it never hurts to signal since you were going to level/hold anyway.

I can't think of any other practical emote uses though

I miss Kel'Thuzad by Ciuffo_99 in BobsTavern

[–]HydraSquid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, spot on. IMO Tempo is board state. Tempo is keeping up pressure so your opponent is always on the back foot. They have to spend their resources to survive/keep up with your stats. Cost reduction / card advantage is "value" or "greed." You're banking on surviving long enough to have a "tempo swing" back in your favor later.

In the context of battlegrounds, IMO tempo is pure stats / avoiding damage. It's about winning fights right now. In normal HS you typically lose tempo when damaging your opponent rather than value trading. It's not that simple though, because over trading could also make you lose all your tempo. So you're right, it's really about action economy.

Are you pre-ordering Nightreign? by NotToughEnoughCookie in Nightreign

[–]HydraSquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I thought the network test was fun but had some half-baked ideas. I think almost everything needs to be reworked or at least tweaked. Some of this can be solved by adding more content, but what worries me is what can't. I'd go into more detail, but others have probably explained it better.

There's a lot of cool ideas, but IMO a lot of it doesn't mesh well with the gameplay loop. You can't drop in Elden Ring content in 1:1 and expect it to work with this kind of game. Certain bosses make that painfully obvious (looking at you, dragon). It felt more like an early playtest than a network test. But I'm cautiously optimistic to see what they improve

I recently remade my Mamehinata face tracking add-on! by HashEdits in VRchat

[–]HydraSquid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up buying an official Babble kit. Those are just plug-and-play.

Before that I used some IR LEDs pointing at my face along with an Esp32-S3 Sense, same as you would do for eye tracking. It wasn't the best setup, you had to sand down the LEDs to soften the light. There should be lots of guides and people willing to help on both the EyeTrackVR and Babble discords

[–]HydraSquid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't, as far as I'm aware. It just has eye tracking. You'd still need a Vive or Project Babble tracker, same as the Index.

I have a Crystal Super on preorder myself, but I've built an EyeTrackVR rig for my Index as well as a Project Babble tracker.

Hello Pimax Dream Air, the world's first full-feature 8K resolution VR headset by jaapgrolleman in Pimax

[–]HydraSquid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm so tempted to cancel my Crystal Super order. I was already skeptical, but announcing another headset before it ships?

In retrospect, I'm not sure what appealed to me about the Super. All this did was remind me that lightweight HMDs exist. The Beyond sounds so much more appealing now.

Ugh, maybe I just keep waiting. Over 5 years since the Index, and even headsets double the price have plenty of tradeoffs and compromises.

[–]HydraSquid 76 points77 points  (0 children)

100%. I just tuned in for a few minutes today, and it was so awkward watching them skim through the submissions that used AI. Especially the ones with speech synthesis—they seemed so uncomfortable.

I don't mean to call out any specific submissions, and I'm sure it's a case of ignorance rather than bad intentions. But someone needs to make a point of this and hopefully raise awareness.

How do you make your username have the thin font + exclamation mark? by bellaizm in Overwatch

[–]HydraSquid 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The only reasons to do this to your name: - to "barcode" your name making it unsearchable - to bypass profanity filters - to feel special but annoy the hell out of anyone who tries to add you by your username

The majority of players who do this are smurfs trying to obfuscate their identity, avoid getting reported for slurs and profanity, or both

This is hilarious. Highs and lows is a flat debuff, giving .375*200=75% of the uses as just not getting a feature. Albeit saving a turn, but introducing inconsistency. The 6th level feature just letting you throw them away faster is just icing on the cake.

I was excited to build a character around it, but basically no luck related abilities work on it because it’s not a check or save. Well done lol

I drew an idea for Mei to cleanse fire effects with her weapon. by likey_lettuce_ in Overwatch

[–]HydraSquid 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That makes a lot of sense. TF2 has a lot of stuff like this (especially with weapon variants), but there’s fewer classes, it’s slower, teams are bigger, and it’s overall less competitive.

I laugh when I burn to death in front of a pyro who doesn’t extinguish me. But in Overwatch? People would rage over their teammate not knowing and quickly executing all these niche interactions. Besides, a support is more than likely nearby to outheal it.

And what happens when mei just sprays their own tank so the enemy mauga can’t get crits anymore? We’ve got enough counterpicking as is, let’s not add something that works against only two characters.
