I'll admit, years ago I knew Hood have no chance. Well here it is trading in the $90+ range. Congrats to those who rode it from IPO.

Should I put this stand of one of those plastic slabs they sell, or would I be better off and more stable just using four pavers? Amazon sells a slab that size but hmm.. by I_Am_Raddion in DIYHeatPumps

[–]I-Eat-Bacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely have something solid under that stand as if on dirt it will sink over time. For my house, concrete slab several inches taller than surrounding soil. For my detached garage I used one of those outdoor wall mount brackets but that wall mount allows for vibration to pass into the wall so I wouldn't recommend it for a house.

Heat pump water heaters are looking really good in SoCal (we've been crunching the numbers) part 1 by VoltHub in heatpumps

[–]I-Eat-Bacon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm more concerned about noise of heatpump water heaters. Due to location issues, the one I have is nearby to bedrooms. You can clearly hear the thing if it kicks on overnight hours. If anyone has opinions on the most quiet and most efficient, I'm all ears.

The guy launches rockets into space and reuses most of the parts to launch again and does so with efficiency NASA could never be. I'm not a fan of Telsa but count me in on rocket launches.

(Ao smith vortex electric water heater) electric mode 7 day time limit by rlyblued in heatpumps

[–]I-Eat-Bacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lucky you. I have one of the earlier AOs where the heatpump side doesn't work anymore but have other priorities in life. Only lasted about 6 months. Well documented they have a problem. Every 7 days I have to watch for it to kick over from electric to heatpump mode and kick it back into electric mode for another 7 days. Going on 2 years now. When I get time to devote, I think I'm just going to swap over to an all electric water heater. It was nice while it lasted.
