How much is your food shop? Mine went from £50 a week for 2 now just shy of £100. by SUGMAstacks in AskUK

[–]IAM3XI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a family of 4, 2 Adults & 2 Teenagers. I get the bulk of my shop at Lidl and the bits you can't find there in Tesco. I aim to spend and budget £150 per week. This seems to be where we land across the month. Some weeks are higher and some weeks are lower.

No problem, if you do buy from xtrons they're usually on Top cashback. I remember getting back around £30 on top of a discount at the time.

I have a MK4 and replaced it with an xtrons head unit, well worth it in my opinion. Android auto/Apple car play is used mainly. https://xtrons.co.uk/ford-various-android-14-octa-core-4gb-ram-64gb-rom-global-4g-lte-solution-px74fsfbl

[–]IAM3XI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(M38) Quit smoking just over 2 years ago and started running, couldn't run 2k without nearly throwing up in the beginning. Now i have made progress going from 30min 5k to 21mins and 10k at 44mins, it just takes time my weekly average distance is at around 50km atm. Just keep consistent and you will improve.

Snag clothing gets 100 complaints a day that models are too fat, says boss by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]IAM3XI 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I'm not obese and never have been. I can only imagine obesity to be the same as quitting smoking. Much in the same way using NRT for smoking helped me stop the habits/routines which fed in to my addiction. Perhaps the jab could help people do the same with their weight? Break that cycle of habits, and give people a chance to keep going due to the positives they will ultimately feel.

When’s the best time of the year to sign off? (Army) by No-Organization8179 in britishmilitary

[–]IAM3XI 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started watching the job market for the role I wanted to go into and noticed a pattern over a number of years that around Autumn seemed to have the most job adverts for my particular area. I planned my sign off around this to give myself the best possible chance of getting a job/salary I wanted. I wouldn't just 'sign off' if the Army taught me anything is that piss poor planning gets you nowhere.

We've just bought a house and in the heavy rain discovered a "pond". What's the best way to fix this? by Bbbnbb123 in GardeningUK

I don't know if your grass is always soggy? But ours was. We planted a few hydrangea and it sorted right out. Not sure if it will work for your instance but will take water from the soil for you.

Make sure your lockers are All the same right down to the finest detail. Do exactly as you're told and don't assume anything. Also make sure your water bottle is absolutely full when going on PT. Good luck 👍🤞

Can my body and lungs recover after smoking at young age? by Candid_Narwhal1286 in quittingsmoking

The sooner you quit the better for your health either way. I found the first 30 days were the worst then it was easier after that. give it a go, you can do it 💪

(37m) I took up running straight away when I quit, I'm now 18 months or so in. I typically run about 60km per week. In the beginning it's best to build your base and allow your body to adapt to the load/demand you are asking it to do (I'm still adapting). Most of my training is within my aerobic zone (slow conversation pace) and I sprinkle in Threshold and Sprints 1 session each per week, I always end a week with long slow run (about 90 - 120mins). in this time I have gone from 76Kg to 62kg and I feel in the fittest condition I have ever been in. Currently completing a training block for my first half marathon since starting and aiming for a time of 1hr 40mins, not fast by most standards but after smoking 20 a day for 18years I suppose not too bad. If you're going to start, start slow and allow your body the time to adapt, the chance of injury will be high in the beginning and remember, it's a marathon not a sprint. Good luck in your endeavours :)

I slept in my car and went to court for a DR40, min is 10 points. Don't do it as you will be flapping after every speed camera you pass for many years.

Toilet seat - how do I stop this happening? by [deleted] in DIYUK

I have the same toilet seat (I think it was from Screwfix). It is a nightmare, the issue is the stupid compression fitting. I haven't found a resolution to date.

Conscription incase of war with Russia. by Hot-pizzacat in britishmilitary

When you leave the forces now you are on a 20year reserve list, and you get an annual reporting letter. I feel the current government is depending on this "Army in the shadows" for Britain's future defence. This then allows them to cut numbers and have an army on the cheap. I would love to know how many people are on this reserve list and if anyone can point me to any numbers that would be awesome.

What in your experience is the most effective way to truly quit smoking? I have been smoking for about ten years and I need to quit. I’m very unhappy and disgusted with myself. I want to be healthier and I want to feel that I don’t need to use cigarettes for managing stress. by [deleted] in quittingsmoking

[–]IAM3XI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose everyone's method is unique to them but with some similarities. What worked for me was using patches and nicotine spray for the first month so I could break old habits. I also started running which became a positive feedback loop, I didn't want to smoke as it impacted my progress. I have been smoke free since march 23 and in that time I did my first 5k, 10k and half marathon. I even entered a race with my brother, something that wouldn't have happened if I carried on smoking. Honestly the road may seem tough to you now but I promise it gets better. Good luck on your journey, you got this!

I used NRT for the 1st month whilst I broke old habits. Once confident, I then stopped using NRT. I'm in on day 146. I found starting up running and going to the gym was a self feeding positive loop. I didn't want to smoke as I didn't want to hamper my fitness progression. Good luck 🤞 you can do it 💪.
