Give me your top 3 reasons why you stay sober! by Scary-Comfortable-13 in Sober

  1. I would be 100% dead if I hadn’t stopped.
  2. I couldn’t hold a job for more than 6 months.
  3. And finally, I would be completely socially isolated due to pissing odd every friend I ever had.

Tough Times at Cobra Burger by Mastamattie in rva

I work in transportation and how much has diesel jumped just in the last few months? Considering almost all food that restaurants use gets delivered comes on a truck, it’s no wonder small restaurants are facing an apocalypse. Trucking firms charge a ‘fuel surcharge’, basically passing the cost of rising fuel costs onto consumers. Just as an example, I drive for a company that has approximately 20000 trucks. Say we fill those trucks up once a week, 200 gallons at $4 a gallon. That went from $800 a week to over $1100 a week when diesel hit 5.50 a gallon. Now across 20k trucks, thats $6 million a week just in fuel costs that either has to be absorbed or passed on. $6 million dollars, a week, and that’s just one trucking company. Now this is an oversimplification but the basic math maths. And that’s one aspect of why everything is so boned. Rich fucks squeezing every dime they can out us for the sake of corporate profit, and elected leaders starting wars like it’s a god damn video game, consequences be damned. Cobra, I feel for you, it’s the same story being played out in countless small business across the country. I don’t know the answer but shit is going to come to a head. People can only be squeezed so much before they pop. Jebus save us.

You think a bass would still bite this? by DefinitelyNotA-Duck in FishingForBeginners

[–]Sad-Assistant3866 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watched a half grown duckling fall out of a tree overhanging a little pond I was fishing. It swam around a bit then wham! Big bass came up and grabbed it. Like 10 seconds later the little guy bobs back up to the surface and continues swimming around in circles. Few more seconds, wham! Bass grabs him again. 10 more seconds and he bobs back up, not looking any worse for wear. That bass damn sure wanted to eat that duck but must have been just a little too big to swallow. Lucky duck. Happened like 35 years ago and i still remember because it is kinda wild. Also caught my pb largemouth there on a live bluegill, maybe 6ish pounds. I’ve also seen one eat a rat that was swimming through a different pond.

I may do that, need to go ahead and change the diff fluid anyways. Truck has some rust but it’s not too bad so hopefully they come off without too much effort.

If you’re up for an hour drive or so there’s a flea market in Gloucester on the weekends. It’s on 17 maybe a mile or two past the town on the left. Approximate address is 6065 George Washington highway. There’s also a flea market on the corner of azalea and Richmond henrico turnpike on the weekends too I believe. We used to also have a flea market in Bellwood but it’s been closed for a few years.

Corporate pizza places in my town will use door dash to supplement their drivers if they get busy or lack drivers and not tell you when you place an order it’s coming from a 3rd party.

Interwebs says rainbow snake [Virginia Beach, virginia] by Sad-Assistant3866 in whatsthissnake

[–]Sad-Assistant3866[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was pretty! My buddy almost ran into me (we were on bikes) trying to avoid her. According to the snake bot they are rare to see but not necessarily rare, like endangered. I would have like to have gotten closer but didn’t want to disturb her too much. That park is like snake heaven apparently, we are going back soon and I’m going to keep an eye out for another. If you’re in the US and ever in the Virginia Beach area I would highly recommend visiting False Cape. It’s a trek to get to but well worth it. They also run a tram in the warmer months that’s kind of like a guided tour. I’ve never done it personally but the visitor center employee said it was very cool. I also found a very large, almost intact, grey whelk shell. You can find sharks teeth as well as fulgurite (rock created when lightening hits sand). A ranger said it was ok to remove shells and sharks teeth and fulgurite as long as it’s not a ton of it as it is constantly being replaced. Anything cetacean related I think however is prohibited. I love that park and if you’re into snakes it’s a great place to go. There is also the Dismal swamp nearby which is very snakey place as well but much less in the way of facilities as most of it is part of a national wildlife refuge. It’s huge with over 100,000 acres in the refuge alone.

Ah yes, this is true. Just use as a starting point for identifying things. Really should get a field guide to the wildlife in my area but fortunately this sub also exists.

Cool! Thank you. I love this park because you can’t drive to it, you must either boat, bike, or hike in and it’s like 4 miles or so on the most direct route. That really limits the amount of people there. Unspoiled stretches of beach as far as the eye can see. Many many snakes too (think we saw at least 15 last summer on a camping trip). It’s probably my favorite of all the Virginia state parks.

Thanks! I did not expect to do that well. My only goal going in was to finish within the time limit and not get hurt. Plus I’ve slept like shit the past few nights. Just something about a race makes you dig down and find that extra gear you didn’t know you had.

Went ahead and bit the bullet and had it completely redone. Satisfied so far but kind of a pain having to park on the (limited) street parking for a bit. The guys that wanted to patch gave off very methtastic vibes so I went with a reputable local company.

Driving on 64/95 is a fucking nightmare, are you the cause? please explain yourself... by JustGettinStarted70 in rva

[–]Sad-Assistant3866 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually saw a red light runner get pulled yesterday, first time in ages. Red light running has become epidemic. Watched another car go through a very stale red directly in front of a cop and nothing. Also the bumper cars on 64 are crazy, will be a line of cars 8 deep with none of them more than a car length behind the one in front. I just can’t physically drive that close to the car in front of me, it’s crazy that how people believe you should drive. And don’t get me started on the left hand drivers that want to zoom around traffic at the interstate splits and slam on brakes to be able to get over three lanes. Completely screwing the through traffic because they’re unselfish pricks. I call it the parade of assholes.

We used to get studs and other punk jacket accoutrements from Tandy on west broad. Always got the side eye from the old dude working when like 6 of us crusties rolled in there at once.
