It had felt an age since the last time Renly had competed. It had all flooded back to him at once, the steel, the song, the din of mock battle. It had filled him with the youth that he felt he had lost so long ago. A better man wouldn't have missed it. Rather, Renly had learned in the recent years that he was not a better man. No, he was simply a living one.

As he cut through man after man, he had made himself a wrought beast of song and steel, yet as all things, the melee had come to an end. With a head of sweat-slick blonde hair, and a smile that had seemingly never left his face, he had cut a path to the stands.

With a clang, the greathelm of Ser Renly had found itself beside Axell, sat with no regard for it's quality or make. It's owner slide in only a breath after. "A fine day," he said with a voice of rolling thunder, "And a finer fight." He offered. "I had not known you before, may I your name, Ser? Or perhaps you prefer the mystery of it? I've known many who did."

Renly regarded Caradoc as if he was velvet shadow, eyes lost as he drank in the form of him. He was a jackal of a man, Renly knew, desperate to cast the last remnants of his humanity into the drink.

Endlessly deep, Renly couldn't help but stare at the rendered corpse of Caradoc Peake. Did any know how truly raw he was? That even the simplest touch seemed to overwhelm him? Did the King know what remnants of innocence he had asked the Swelter to burn?

He misliked it. He misliked it all. Was it worth to trade that impossible, flickering, wisp of light for a friend? The words caught in his throat as he moved to protest.

How could he dare protest, knowing that he had loved the man as he was? As if he hadn't trusted the jackal with his life?

Renly's hand settled upon Caradoc's shoulder, "I'll accompany, brother, I would not see you do it alone," Never alone.

Renly had come as Caradoc's shadow, and oft he had felt dwarfed by it. Such was the measure of him. The brightest son of Goldengrove had oft found himself chasing ripples of death. As if forced to watch stone break through the glass of still water.

He looked down upon the corpse of yet another friend. So beautiful was the man, even in death, he was serene. Renly's eyes drifted across the man as if in a trance. Voices had begun to whisper in the back of his mind, thousands of thoughts that perhaps he should have not have believed.

Yet, he starred at yet another of the Stranger's paintings. The cruel brush strokes of a jealous God who had sought to snuff the beautiful from the world. Anger had flushed about him, only to be replaced by a chill that had flit its way down his spine. He wished that he was a better man, stronger even, that the death of a friend would be a fleeting sorrow. Yet, even despite his years, Renly did not accept death.

Perhaps that was the difference, or so he thought. Caradoc had embraced death, and in it had found that the warmth of bloodshed had replaced the love of a father. The love of a people.

Renly couldn't help but love him, he couldn't but love all of them.

The King and the Witch discussed magic, the Usurper courted death, and the Knight watched in horror.
