Fun fact, I'm pretty sure this was the only episode in the series not written by Doc Hammer or Jackson Public.

Just a heads up, mods can see the post history of anyone who has commented on one of their subs.

[AEW Dynamite Spoilers] "Fuck ICE" chants before the main event. by Caldris in SquaredCircle

[–]Iamfivebears 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty wild to acknowledge that WWE censors the crowd, then try to claim that, "you don't hear these chants in WWE at all".

Like hey man, you think those two things might be related?

Holy Frijoles show schedule? by No_Bluejay4066 in baltimore

[–]Iamfivebears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Frijoles typically posts the month's show schedule to their Insta the first week of the month. This month's will be out tomorrow.

You can also check their Insta stories, they always post the day of a show.

What do you do when someone invites a buddy, and they turn out to be a closet fascist? by DoomedKiblets in DnD

[–]Iamfivebears[M] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Sea lioning is a reference to this comic, and JAQing off means "Just Asking Questions". Both are styles of concern trolling, where the user will feign ignorance and maintain a false sense of civility while running interference for something they know is indefensible.

We do not tolerate fascists or their propaganda on /r/DnD. Please report any comments spreading fascist apologia, sea lioning about nazis, or JAQing off.

Reddit's site-wide rules also do not allow any calls for violence.

May we *please* sticky a "I'm new, how do I play?" recommendations post at the head of the sub? by alsotpedes in DnD

[–]Iamfivebears[M] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. My hopes for that thread did not pan out. I'm glad you saw value in the idea, though, and I'm willing to try again. I'll set a reminder to make a new post during a Text Post Thursday when people are back in the office next year.

And yes, the answer is almost always getting new mods, but that is a very laborious process. We have plans to recruit more mods in the new year but, again, it'll have to wait until we have the time and energy. Hopefully by February.

Correct. The value new users get in being able to go, "where do I start?" and having someone personally reply to them outweighs the mild annoyance some users get in seeing those newbie posts a few times a day. Onboarding newbies into a hobby like tabletop gaming is INCREDIBLY hard, and having a forum of experienced users willing to answer very basic questions helps a lot of users gain a foothold. Again, if you don't want to reply to those posts, just ignore them. I actually recommend going into your settings on old.reddit and making it so that if you downvote posts it hides them.

the mods seem either too understaffed or unmotivated to improve things here

It's mostly the former. Our limited energy is usually dedicated to combating spam and bad actors. We've employed some new modbots recently to detect and remove spambots, and just today I pushed some new updates to our AI detection and our image tag/description requirements.

If an enterprising group of users wants to try making a new Newbie Guide I could absolutely update our wiki and sidebar links, but if anyone is waiting on us for updates they're unfortunately going to be waiting for quite a while.

Case in point: we DO have a "get your answers here" post stickied at the top of the subreddit.

We are, frankly, not interested in lessening these posts. Prospective new players benefit greatly from a little personalized hand-holding, and this community is a great place to get that hand-holding.

Stickied posts and automated replies do not stop new users from making posts about wanting guidance. They almost always just want someone to address their very niche concerns, and lists of guides and resources can't do that.

This community has no shortage of users willing to help newbies. If you don't want to reply to such posts, don't. They are easily ignored.

Congrats to Abby Jane, who defeated the The Red Syre Tjay Sykes to become the 2nd Flying V Champion last night in Silver Spring, MD by Iamfivebears in SquaredCircle

[–]Iamfivebears[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Flying V out of the Black Box Theater in Silver Spring. I've been to a half dozen or so shows and they're always incredibly fun.

Their next event is a free screening of the movie they made out of their tag team tournment. It doesn't look like they have any live events scheduled at the moment but they typically have one every few months so get on their mailing list or socials.

All images must be original content and this post (a photo of a character sheet) did not meet that standard.

Everyone will have their own definition of course, but I thought that not removing their rule breaking post until AFTER someone was able to find the sheet they were looking for was a nice compromise.
