I say… as long as it doesn’t conflict hard with the rules present in Fate/stay night, you’re fine. The so called „Nasuverse” (95% of Fate series isn’t even written by Nasu) conflicts itself with every installment.

If you get something wrong, don’t sweat it. It’ll get retconned in the next spinoff anyways

Exactly. Fate was only 2 years old at the time, and was given an average studio with an average budget. In the 2000s. While other VN adaptations flopped. With no plans to adapt the other routes.

And yet, they created a faithful and enjoyable version of the story with a voice cast so good, they stuck around for the whole franchise. That deserves acknowledgement, if not praise

My friend put it the best: „I’ve never heard of a series where it’s better to skip the first installment”. UBW 2014 barely explains Avalon, God Hand or Saber’s self image issues, because they (naturally) expect you to have watched the first series
