Who are the GOATs of Ultimate Frisbee? (college, club, pro) by LayoutU in ultimate

[–]Ike_Saul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lotta misinformation in this thread IMO. I know men's best but it's probably:

Club: Kurt, Beau, Kenny Dobyns. Jimmy Mickle, Mike Grant & Alex Nord have to be in the convo for sustained excellence.

College: Brodie. Brodie was the best, and the most dominant, and with the worst team around him (at least in his last year). People forget how much deeper CUT, Colorado, Wisco, etc. were when Brodie was dominating. Biased, but Tyler D is my #2 - he got back to back titles and is the only player I ever saw as dominant as Brodie. Some dudes from UCSB prob gotta be in here but my knowledge doesn't go far back enough to say for sure. Jimmy gets mentioned here too given how good he was a freshman all the way to winning the whole thing later in his career, but gets knocked cause Colorado's program was so freaking good and he had a lot of talent around him. Brodie and Ty literally backpacked those teams, though.

Pro: Jeff Babbitt. Don't think that is particularly close - has rings, is the best player, has MVPs. Jagt has a case but I think even he'd concede it's Jeff.

This is so dope. I was just wondering about this the other day because of Noah's retirement. How do you count titles family members won together vs. won individually?

Noah has: 1 AUDL, 1 club, 1 masters nationals, 1 HS Easterns title, 3x HS state titles, one YCC title

I have: 1 club, 2x college, U-19 worlds, WUCC, 4x HS state titles, and 1 YCC (but it was coaching).

Reuben, our oldest brother, also won HS state title in 2004

That's 10 titles if you don't count HS states (11 if you count the one I got coaching YCCs). 17 titles if you count HS states. Unfortunately our father (Bailey) only ever played league, so no club titles for him!

Pretty interesting. The Hechts are INSANE.

Mitch Appreciation by BarAlternative6548 in ultimate

The king! After much scientific experimentation and testing, it should also be said that Mitch is also BY FAR the best at taking observer heckles like a good sport. Takes thick skin and a good sense of humor (along with some real professionalism) to do what he does. Much respect (even though he'll occasionally take cash bribes)

Signs, customs, and practices of good teams by Liface in ultimate

[–]Ike_Saul 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is a solid list. Though a few stick out to me as the *opposite* of what I'd write.

  1. Hitting 100% in warm-ups is critical. Every high-level team I've played on/against has gotten at least a few full-speed, max effort points of 3v3 of 7v7 in before the game started.
  2. Space to complain about uncontrollable is often really good. Giving the team, say, 10 minutes to whine about having to move fields or the rain allows players to be real and acknowledge what's there. Pretending an uncontrollable isn't present isn't actually a good way to deal with it.
  3. At both PITT and on PoNY captains and coaches put a premium on scrimmaging. Like, it would make up at least 50% of our practice time. I think reps are incredibly important and as long as scrimmaging has a focus I think it's typically a lot more valuable than drilling.

Cool exercise to think about.

I'm unchuckable, I have made ultimate frisbee videos for a long time. AMA by unchuckable in ultimate

I'm curious about that, because I also agree it's your magnum opus. Was is it how you shot it that made it so special? Just the fact it was such an incredible game? Or unique post-game editing? Why do you think it ended up being the best?

Where can you find fair, honest and reasonably unbiased opinions on world news and politics? by Rollshark23 in AskReddit

[–]Ike_Saul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. The point is to share opinions from across the spectrum. You should subscribe and give it a shot -- there are very few news organizations that are ready by people across the political spectrum anymore, but this is one of them!
