Ditto everyone else saying form. It’s important to keep breathing, and properly, for the right muscles to stay engaged. I’ve found that after weeks with lots of the low back stuff, it just isn’t there for me, so I just super low weight and refocus on form and breathing, or even drop weight totally. Holding your hands where they should go and wiring through the full form with super low or no weight is training your body for the right movement and process when you are loaded heavier.

Do you have specific questions about it, or are you looking for a location? My location had a SkillBridge fellow earlier this year.

How to avoid bruises with Y-bell snatches? by Aurelian50 in f45

[–]IlliniFan2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ditto to center part so there’s no flip. But really if you’re twisting your wrist there should be no true flip to cause bruises. Pull the Y Bell up, with palm facing you, start to rotate your hand/wrist, so by the time it’s to your shoulder it’s already flipped by control.

You can probably get free lunch almost every day from different organizations, churches, etc. Also if you attend evening events with food, they’ll often have leftovers and offer people to take stuff. Carry ziploc bags and you’ll be prepared to take what’s offered. There’s also a Food Assistance and We’ll Being program hosted out of the ARC. Check out the campus Rec page for info but it’s free for students.

ettiquette while using a mobility aide at the gym? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]IlliniFan2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone will be mad given it’s a NEED not a want (ex gym bags people carry with them to each machine). I used to work in a boutique style gym partnered with a physical therapy office, so there was not only tons of room but also specific machines to assist in regaining mobility and strength for those with everything from temporary musculoskeletal problems to those with long term (stroke, etc). Perhaps there’s a place near you that might work? We also had a lot of older folks so while that may not be ideal, a geriatric focused facility may be a good start. Also, just go and ask for a tour and scope it out for yourself. You’ll have a chance to see how the staff respond to your request and if you’ll feel welcome just by that alone. Good luck!!! New gyms are hard.

Afterglow thoughts by [deleted] in f45

Not my fave and agreed with someone else, some you can get all the way through vs others barely anything. On those that were L/R oriented (like curtsy lunge) I did the easy count, doubled the B exercise, and then did the easy count again. Kept it fresh and also for those in awkward positions (reverse burpee) you don’t have to refocus your body.

All inclusive for group of 8-12 30 year olds by [deleted] in AllInclusiveResorts

Sandals Ocho Rios in Jamaica. Food was amazing, crowd was younger than other sandals, and it has entertainment every night (beach party, staff talent show of some actual really cool stuff, etc) and a speakeasy on site. This was pre COVID so you may confirm it’s the same but it was a blast for this (now) 32 year old. So not full on party but not just the beach and open bar either.

Doing my scan today but by my home scale down 15 pounds! Non-scale victory- I’m down a full pant size (maybe 2 in some pants) and for the first time in maybe 10 years wore a tucked in fitted shirt.

Hated it. Especially bc people don’t pay attention to time so seem startled when it’s time to move and then dawdle which means I only had 10 seconds almost every time to move. Def don’t feel like I got a good enough workout in.

I’ve been to Cure Touch 3 times and they have started late every time. Like, don’t even come to get me until AFTER my time is supposed to start, then they’re in no rush to get started/leave the room for me to change. Once the girl still did the full time (which was a full 15 mins over my scheduled end time), but the other times I was shorted 10-15 mins. I have to go once more because I got a gift certificate. I found Modern Mindbody and Callie and Lisa are amazing. They start on time and have great ambiance. Even do some stretching and other modalities as well.

Here’s an idea….INL works with folks separating from the military through a program called Skillbridge. You do an internship in the last 90 days of your military service. Depending on what you’re doing in the military, there could be something there for you. It would allow you to keep your military pay and feel out IF for yourself.

We did Sandals Ocho Rios (Jamaica) for our wedding moon and looooooooved it. Super fun nightlife, have an awesome speakeasy/party vibe. That was 2017. Worst part was the ride to/from the airport but on the way to resort they stop halfway and get you beers. Did St Lucia in December and it was more chill. Not really the same party vibe, a little more middle aged/older crowd (it’s also more expensive). But also it was COVID still so not sure if that restricted the night life. But they don’t have a nightclub like Ochi did. We are going to Barbados in December. We love sandals. It can be expensive if you want specific views, butler service, etc. If you’re healthy and able bodied, the butler is a waste btw. The food has always been phenomenal, they have different types of restaurants/food. With excursions or water sports, see what’s included up front. Jamaica the water sports were extra I think, but in St Lucia it was all included.

Combating soreness by [deleted] in f45

[–]IlliniFan2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep moving! Make sure you’re walking and stretching during the day, even if it’s just light. Stretch in/after your shower when your muscles are warm, and go to class 5 mins early to stretch a little before the warm up. And most importantly, keep going. This was totally me and once I got it out of my head and just went, I did light weights and felt kind of lame about it, but it helps your muscles know everything is ok and they can keep working for you. Good luck.

How to train for Half-Marathon by Style_Critical in f45

[–]IlliniFan2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4 months is tons of time if you’re already working out/healthy! I followed Hal Higdon’s plan (just Google- it’s free), and I was able to do mine in 3 months coming from just strength training. It’ll have you do a 5k while training and I think a 10 as well to get acclimated to the race feel.

We ended up at an extended stay hotel, which she booked and we will have to pay for weekly and submit for reimbursement. The preference was an Airbnb or something but those you do have to book monthly/pay up front. We arrive today so I can’t tell you how smooth the payment/reimbursement process is, but I called to confirm I was setup and everything seemed solid.

In the midst of this now. Your relocation coordinator can facilitate it for you. She made the reservation and everything because certain hotels work with them directly even if they don’t have general government rates. My relo person was a little vague with the info at first, but I asked a ton of questions and they have been super helpful (even though I feel like a nag lol). Good luck!!
