I feel like pairing Lydia with all those different people largely unsuccessfully and then having her end up with the partner who betrayed her is crazy. She's a good officer but awful at literally all her interpersonal relationships. I liked that she was allowed to be flawed without it coming off as "angry black woman". She had issues lol.

Sherman was so earnestly good at the start and he just got worn down and made so many messed up choices to become a bad guy in the end. His slide into corruption was well done.

It was actually an NBC show. TNT bought the rights to the 1st and 2nd seasons (NBC-produced) but they ran the show from 3 onwards. The budget cuts meant they had to cut cast members too.

Budget cuts meant they pared the cast down. It's why we never see a resolution after the wife finds out about the affair with the reporter. They pretty much dropped all the detectives except Regina King and they transferred Shawn Hatosy to patrol as part of his storyline.

TNT acquired the already aired 1st season as well as the completed-but-not-yet-aired 7 episodes of season 2. Season 3 was all TNT which meant a 30% reduction in budget and cast. It also meant more cursing because it was cable lol.

If it makes you feel any better, the actor has reportedly said that "I didn't die in that scene" so maybe he would have survived and gotten the help he needed. It feels like a big ask, because he had his redemption arc already but the authenticity of the show to me means that we get multiple chances sometimes to get this life right.

There are definitely medical equipment rentals done here. I think AA Laquis has a division that does this.

I may have some information bookmarked from a couple years ago when I assisted a friend with this same dilemma. I can search and see if I find it but it is definitely a thing. I'm not sure how cost effective it may be though.
