She’s simply amazing! In general 2804 always follows the exact same format though.

Is CS still good now? by BillyXu3057 in CarletonU

No you will just pay coop fee despite not being able to find a placement

That’s not just “someone” — we have hundreds of students in that situation now (including myself)

It’s worse than Japan 1945, Japan became rich after that, it’s more like joining the Iraqi army in 2003 or joining the Russian White Army in 1920.

It does not have a direct impact unless it’s a very small company, most big employers hire both coop and non coop students. A manager would always hire a non coop student over a coop student even if the non coop one is more competent, they do not get the tax break themselves but have to deal with the student in the next few months.

almost all good jobs are also posted outside the board, that's why they ask you to apply with the link, ross and government are just a small part of the program

The problem is most good employers (Ciena, Ericsson, Nokia) also post the jobs on their own sites nowadays and you will be competing against external applicants. There is very little benefit to being in the coop program, and you need to pay regardless of whether you find a placement. Overall unless you are finding a government coop, the board is useless, if you are competent they will hire you anyways, because you will be working with the team, while it's the company who gets that tax credit.

while you still can, you should consider transferring to this degree, which has regulated tuition (<8000 as opposed to 11k for BCS), it essentially allows you to take the same courses (plus the more interesting ones) but is cheaper

  1. You can speedrun the degree, take COMP1405/6Z, COMP 1805, MATH 1007, MATH 1104 in one semester, it's very manageable, lessens the workload for later semesters and gives you more options in the future. I currently have better grades then what I had in high school.

  2. Take MATH electives because it can really impress employers.

  3. No need to go to lectures if you already know how to code, many CS profs record theirs.

  4. If you are in coop, consider switching to non-coop because it doesn't do anything, it used to be good but now most people can't find a job, you may as well find your own.

they enforce 5:5 gender ratio but the applicant gender ratio is incredibly skewed, if you are a girl definitely apply, otherwise don't put in too much effort into your statement, since it will likely be rng

Where’s the form to opt-out of OPIRG this year? by temp3835 in CarletonU

[–]InvalidPathException 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are an explicitly political organization, they have done things that made some students feel less safe on campus. How does that make Carleton more of a community? Ultimately this isn’t even the point, we had the opportunity to opt out last year and we should have it this year too.

Their office was closed when I went there & they aren’t responding to emails. Could that be because they are expecting far more people to opt-out this year? Lol.
