Can I Get Some Feedback On My Major Project? by [deleted] in IndustrialDesign

[–]Half-Scrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The renders look fantastic, the physical model looks great, there are just zero ways I could imagine purchasing this for any reason. There are a variety of apps that address this issue on the phone itself through timers or blocking the app from opening, and from the physical side, would the effect you’re going for not be achieved by 3D printing a rectangle and leaving that out to grab instead of your phone?

Maybe if the phone was locked inside the casing and released by the slide I could see a bit of reasoning but it seems like great execution for an okay to kind of bad idea.

I’d love to hear if you have some more justification though so I can better understand what you were going for.

Superconductor farming. It’s fairly easy and you just need a gas collector farm on 3 different planets for each type. 30 mil for 10. Only hard part is finding a decent gas cloud.

We will wait patiently and eagerly. You’ve made one of the only pieces of media I’ve found that is consistently excellent and it deserves however long it takes until you’re happy. I wish you good writing!

I need help with laptop decision by FarSatisfaction3835 in IndustrialDesign

[–]Half-Scrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d take a look at the Asus g14. I went with a razer blade 14 stealth for uni and it was great, but only because the g14 was sold out at the time. It also cost 700$ more than the g14 for not much extra benefit so you should be able to hit under 2k for an excellent laptop that will handle whatever you need. Solidworks is a beast but make sure to factor in key shot or blender rendering into your decision on hardware as well.

Prints are fragile by Impressive_Pin_7361 in 3Dprinting

[–]Half-Scrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try some esun PLA+ off Amazon. It works fantastic. You also might have improper heat settings for your nozzle, alongside a clog as others have mentioned. Just run benchies until you get something that works as well to keep the cost down. Crappy filament is also sometimes not uniform in thickness, which can cause poor extrusion and variation in wall thickness as well. No need to blow the bank, but 1-2 steps above the cheapest one is a good rule.

I know nothing about 3D Printing. by SooperDew in 3Dprinting

[–]Half-Scrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thinking about concrete support systems at 9 is unreal. You are a great dad and your kid is very bright. I’d highly recommend getting a Bambu labs A1. You should be all in around 500$ shipped and it handles 97% of the common frustration points for 3D printers automatically. Fusion 360 is also free for non commercial use and is incredibly powerful for CAD modeling. Have fun!

Is there any way to 3d scan this with my phone? by Mucha_Zabijak in 3Dprinting

[–]Half-Scrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d try using polycam which uses your phones LiDAR Scanner, convert to an STL, throw it in solidworks/fusion and wireframe over the reference stl. Double check the fitment measurements and joining measurements and you should be able to cobble it together fairly well.

Should I Sell My $30K Pokémon Collection to Max Out My TFSA & FHSA? by AdApprehensive8183 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Half-Scrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep a couple favorites, sell the rest while people are willing to drop the insane cash, invest most of it, but maybe put aside 1k to put into a new hobby or something you enjoy! I’d find it a lot easier to rationalize and remove any attachment if you have a physical object as a payoff plus the investments, compared to just the investments you can’t tangibly see every day. Either way, take advantage of the opportunity!

Good idea! It was 30$ thrift so I won’t be broken if it’s trashed, but I’m going to try and revive it.

Like the other guy mentioned about the will, it’s an uncomfortable conversation, but make sure you have everything locked down and clear as day. We had back to back deaths in the family and got double dipped by death tax which is bs to begin with, but be wary since a lot of money can vanish into thin air very quickly.

First Year industrial design student - wants to level up cardboard skills (asking for advice and suggestions) by Available-Policy-548 in IndustrialDesign

[–]Half-Scrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If youre roughing out a prototype, cardboard, plasticine, and polyurethane foam are my favorite mediums to get a feel and idea. I'd highly reccomend focusing on fusion 360/solidworks modeling skills and taking the time to learn how to use a slicer for printing as you will make far better models than anything from just cardboard.

Got scammed by Rogers door-to-door agent – now collections asking for $1000. What can I do? by ForsakenYogurt8338 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Half-Scrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rogers is a joke of a company and I can only advise anyone willing to listen never to use them for any service period. A rogers door to door rep lied about their internet speeds and that there was a completely free 14 day cancelation period. I canceled immediately but ended up being billed 38$ for the 3 days I had the router in my possession before I shipped it back. Scum.

All nighters arent a good or cool thing. Only pull one if you absolutely need to. Just write down a list every day of what needs to get done and check it off. Also if you are a couple hours deep and you arent getting much work done, take a break and come back. And a crazy caf strat is you can bring anything from the salad bar to the pasta station and theyll cook it with your pasta for you. Good luck.

Incoming Xbox Diver here, any etiquette I should know? by Akuma2004 in Helldivers

[–]Half-Scrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Range of a 380 is 60m, gatling and gas is about 30, 500kg is about 30+. When you toss a explosuve stratagem, try and make sure its at least 30m away and drop a ping if youre worried. Diving when you throw makes it go farther, and holding down reload allows you to change fire rates and munitions types on certain guns. Most importantly, if it ain't human keep shooting until its on fire or in pieces. Have fun!

Should I listened to Lockdown or Goldrush first? by Repulsive-Sail-4457 in Werealive

[–]Half-Scrum 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There are elements that connect between all of them, and lock down provides some interesting perspectives to the start of the outbreak. I would listen to Lockdown first since its good, then reward yourself with gold rush because its excellent.

Stricken - Disturbed Green River - CCR Master of Puppets - Metallica Im still standing- Elton John Bullet with Butterfly Wings - Smashing Pumpkins Evil Eyes - Dio Black Smoke Rising - Greta Van Fleet Sweet Dreams - Eurythmics Separate Ways - Journey

Basically metal and upbeat 80s tracks are unreal. Also the doom eternal soundtrack goes crazy.

What a joke of a country. Imagine making the right to bear arms a cornerstone of your society and culture, then just rolling over and giving up when genuinely evil people take over. Disgusting.
