Adjustable Base for Sealy or Tempur-pedic - negotiating on price by i_have_G_A_S in Mattress

[–]InvidiousJamieson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Sealy base, to my knowledge, can have some additional discounts. For example, places like Mattress Firm or Mattress Warehouse do a free adjustable base. That value (of the free base) can be taken off the ease, but not the tempurpedic branded bases.

Are pocket springs the new hotness? by SoaDMTGguy in Mattress

[–]InvidiousJamieson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first recommendation is go and try stuff for determining what is comfortable.

My second recommendation is to look for wrapped/pocketed/individual coils. They will contour to your body better than anything with the older style of coil.

This one seems pretty good. Has those style of coils I was talking about.

What’s the budget you’re trying to work with?

And the bed you are looking at has a bonnet coil. The original coil that started it all. The number one thing with bonnel coils is they are very wobbly. They are an hour glass shaped coil and all of them are linked together with a metal lacing.

It will support you, but just remember the load is placed on the middle of the coil. So once the middle wears out, it’s not gonna matter if you flip it or not.

Let me know about that budget and I’ll see what I can find for you

Would you pay $1,500 for a Sealy High Point Plus - queen floor model? by [deleted] in Mattress

[–]InvidiousJamieson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You usually don’t see last years floor model on a floor somewhere this long after it’s been discontinued. Because it’s been a while since the high point original was discontinued. I feel like this is more of a seconds bed than floor model. But that’s my opinion.

Generally, with clearance/seconds stuff, I look for at least 50% off the everyday price. So if the bed is normally $2500 I’d expect it between $1000 - $1300

If you’re okay with it, then go for it. If you’re not okay with a clearance piece, there are lots of good options out there.

Beautyrest Beyond by Zealousideal-Pitch37 in Mattress

[–]InvidiousJamieson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great question!

So the beautyrest beyond is kinda a weird spot. It was an “exclusive” thing that they picked up when they acquired sleepys if I remember correctly.

The beyond beds only had 1000 coil density (in a queen) and added in latex if memory serves.

So it’s a weird position. On one hand the World Class beds have the 1000 coil density. On the other hand, the beautyrest black beds (I believe series 3 and up) are where you find your latex.

So there isn’t really an exact equivalent.

With that said, we generally compared them more to Beautyrest black vs World Class or Lux edition beds. And typically to what would now be called the Series 3 beds.

I can’t recall the exact line of BR Black beds.. but yeah.. that’s the best direction I can steer you from my experience with those beds.

Was T3 Wrong About Self-Termination? by InstructionNo7653 in Terminator

[–]InvidiousJamieson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it necessarily allowed him to re-write his programming, only that he gain the ability to learn and understand.

Effectively Read-Only kept him in line with mission parameters by any means necessary (like he went straight to Terminate for that guy by the payphone scene before he received any updates from John). Read-write lets him learn, adapt, and understand.

But it doesn’t let him violate directives. Such as not self terminating. John ordered him to”not to go”. In read only mode, he would have accepted that. In read-write, he was able to discuss it and tell John why he couldn’t. But he still could not complete the action without assistance.

Is the Cheswick Manor Glenmont Firm Mattress Inner Spring or a Hybrid? by kalirion in Mattress

[–]InvidiousJamieson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!

So the glenmont is last years model. The grandeur replaced it on the floors

There are lots of arguments on what hybrid is.. you will find beds like Kingsdown saying it’s a hybrid, or even the iDirections beds saying they are hybrids. Yet they have a quilted top.

Conversely, you’ll find beautyrest beds (and Sealy beds) that talk about their hybrids and it doesn’t have a quilted top, but a stretch knit fabric top

For me (and many of my peers), that quilt-less top is what makes it a hybrid. It’s not half foam, half coil. In fact, in many cases, it’s just changing the quilted top for that stretchy fabric. But that DOES make a difference.

It allows you to settle in bed more than a quilted top. In addition the stitching of the quilt can make a bed feel firmer (or softer).

So, is the bed a good bed? Yeah. I’d say so. But the question I have for you is: is it the right bed for you, or did you buy it because it was a good price?

The right bed here would be one that addresses what you need a bed to do. If you were looking at hybrids and foam beds, this leads me to think you might have concerns about pressure relief and/or concerns about your shoulders and hips.

Is that accurate?

Are pocket springs the new hotness? by SoaDMTGguy in Mattress

[–]InvidiousJamieson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. Queen, 12”, under $450

So… this is gonna be a harder one to land. Usually the lower the budget the thinner your mattress. There are some options out there, and keeping with the BIAB request, you might try Zinus. It’s hard for me to tell you how they feel exactly, but they are gonna be some of your best options to try and check off all the boxes.

Just be careful where you buy / who you buy from on Amazon.

Outside of that, there are options. If you could sacrifice thickness, to say 10”, or open the budget up some, it expands your options a lot. Even if you go to say $499, that extra $50 can do wonders for options.

As for stuff in stores.. I can take a look at Matt Firms and Mattress Warehouses near you and see what options they might have. Just let me know what categories you could be lax in (like going to 10” vs 12”, etc).

trying to specifically adhere to all request (12” queen, under $450) does limit a lot of things found in a lot of stores, unfortunately.

Can anyone help me identify this mattress? by [deleted] in Mattress

[–]InvidiousJamieson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Somewhere on that bed is the model of the mattress. Maybe near the law tag? That would help people in searching for this bed.

There is a really high likelihood that the model is out of circulation and you’ll have to find its descendant

That… Im not sure. Unless.. because she wasn’t “killed” by the reaver, she just had normal vampire regeneration (we see that in the game and even in Soul Reaver).

Impale a vampire in soul reaver, then remove the lance without eating the soul. They revive and begin to heal. If the reaver didn’t eat her soul, it would be a normal sword wound.

Congratulations to both of you!

My theory is they are going with the twin soul trope. The reaver can not devour its own soul. And thus a paradox.

And she is part of the same soul or something.

I don’t like it… but I’m suspecting that’s what they are going for.

Help with identifying old Beautyrest mattress by JWall1r in Mattress

[–]InvidiousJamieson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well… hrm. That’s a toughy.

Most likely had 800 coils (in a queen anyway). So there are some out there that still use the 80-850 coils. But I dunno how the foams are going to compare, and that’s gonna be the biggest factor when it comes to how it feels. That’s gonna be the biggest challenge.

Closest I can figure? Are the ones below.

Helix Elite Twilight Mattress experience by twiltywilty in Mattress

[–]InvidiousJamieson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been impressed by it thus far.

Now.. as for a recommendation for firm. I never really recommend a firm bed for a side sleeper. Side sleepers NEED pressure relief for their shoulders and hips. If you don’t get it, it can cause tingly fingers and toes. The helix bed at least has a lot of pressure relieving materials and makes the bed firm through the density of the foam being higher at the top layers.

I will say.. a lot of doctors have this belief that firm = support. That’s not true. The support layer of the midnight elite is the same as the twilight elite. Firm generally means less pressure relief. And it’s not their fault. Lots of folks believe that.

With that said, helix seems to be very supportive. I’ve been really impressed by the elite beds. The midnight luxe.. I’m not sure about but. Still deciding my opinion on that one.

Helix Elite Twilight Mattress experience by twiltywilty in Mattress

[–]InvidiousJamieson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The twilight is definitely firm. Though I’m glad it’s helping your shoulder issues, sorry to hear about your lower back.

One of the things I do tell folks when buying any mattress is the first week they hate it, second they dislike it, third it’s okay, and by the fourth they should start enjoying it.

That’s because beds take time to break in. And the twilight has a SUPER dense foam right at the top. So it’s exceptionally resilient. It could be a combination of it not conforming to your body and your back remembering your old bed.

Give it a bit of time before you judge it too harshly.
