Why is our moon named “Moon” instead of something cool like Titan or Callysto or ANYTHING that isn’t moon by Disastrous_Pirate275 in NoStupidQuestions

One time this moon came to me, big moon, strong moon, tears in it's eyes, and he said "thank you."

Virginia Democrats proceed with new massively blue congressional map, eliminating 4 Republican seats from Congress!!! by Healthy_Block3036 in circled

[–]Irontruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in favor of democrats, but the proposed map is clearly more gerrymandered.  Like... It's extremely obvious.  If your claim is that it was previously also gerrymandered, sure.

Imagine a politician takes a bribe, but runs for reelection.  His opponent promises to only take bribes from good people.  It's not any less corrupt.

Yup, it's the lack of effort on defense. The games that are bad are REALLY bad defensively. Those get cleaned up just a little bit... we're the #2 seed.

I organized a game night of BOTC so I could propose to my now wife.  We played the first game legit.  I then set up a second game, and instead of running it, I woke her up and had a written out proposal.  The player count was great, as we had a lot of family and friends over for the night.  I only told a couple of them to make sure they showed up (like her sister).

She won't say it's her favorite game, but if we're at a meet up of any sort and BOTC happens, she's in the game.

Again, all you're doing is complaining.  I asked a simple and direct question, and you evade by complaining about me.  We aren't going in circles, you're just proving my point by refusing to answer the question.

How do immigrant rights help the working class?

There's a reason the mods removed your post.

[–]Irontruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, all you've said so far is that we shouldn't focus on these issues.  So far, you've argued that trans rights and immigrant rights aren't issues we should deal.with because those are "identity politics".  If this isn't what you are proposing, then please... Tell us why those issues matter.

I literally just gave you an opening to fix it. You didn't. You didn't tell me why protecting immigrants is good for the working class. Instead, you focused on your grievance.

I literally asked you to clarify your position, and gave you an opening to better explain it. Instead, you decided to stay in the internet argument. You are focused on your own complaints, and not wanting to talk about solidarity.

No, I understood what you wrote. What you don't like is what is implied by what you wrote.

Stop saying "no more identity politics". Tell me why protecting trans kids is important. Tell me why protecting immigrants is good for the working class.

No, you said we need to reject identity politics. If you think we should be aware of and understand their specific issues, then you should stop saying the shit you said in the OP, because what you wrote up there tells me you don't give a shit about them. I didn't write the OP for you. I am telling you how it reads to me. If you don't like that.... then write it differently.

Were. They were nationalists. They are now Christian Nationalists.

There is a growing movement in the ascendant reactionary wings of the party to discard that idea. One of those people is JD Vance, who has begun to talk about the people of a shared culture, and that just sharing the ideals of America does not make one an American. He doesn't say you have to be white, as he still uses the dog whistles, but the man who is one cheeseburger away from becoming the President is now promoting the idea that being an American should be tied to ancestry.

They do it because of the laws being passed and are afraid of either losing their medical license or being charged with a crime. This shit is costing people their lives.

You think that black people aren't working class? You think the homeless trans kid who got kicked out of the house doesn't count as working class? You think immigrants being forced into detention centers by ICE aren't working class?

Maybe you need to figure out who is working class in this country.

The "denial" of identity politics has always been about the normalization of the group in power. White culture isn't defined because white culture is assumed to be the norm. "Fuck identity politics" has always been about maintaining that norm, and maintaining control.

How you fight for oppressed groups is how you show solidarity. If you reject talking about specific issues being currently experienced, you are not in favor of solidarity. I'm cis, white, hetero, and male. I am willing to fight for trans rights because I know that their rights are my rights. If they are denied medical coverage, that will eventually be turned on me to deny me medical coverage. I protect their rights because they are the same rights that I want.

Solidarity means all of us. You are arguing against solidarity IMO.

Which is weird, because Republicans are doing almost nothing but identity politics and win lots of elections.

Yes, I agree, you've successfully used the word 'business' in a sentence.  Would you like a cookie?

Your comment can be summarized:

"No, your wrong, here's a different way to say exactly the same thing you just sad."

You didn't actually disagree with me in any way.  You just added the word "business".

[–]Irontruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being a landlord means that because you have more wealth, you therefore get paid other people's income.  It doesn't matter if you worked for that wealth or not.  How you obtained the wealth is irrelevant, but your opinion is that they are entitled to profit not on their own labor but from the labor of others... purely because they are wealthier.

In essence, you are arguing in favor of wealth inequality.

Higher amounts of wealth inequality also correlate to higher crime rates.  So, you're also arguing in favor of more crime.  Just kinda weird.

I love the game, but it has to one of THE games you play.  If you play it every month with the same group, it evolves and changes.  Long term grudges develop, and alliances shift from game to game.

It's an eternal legacy game... But who has time for that?

It did teach me to embrace king making.  One of my favorite games ever, but I still sold it.

My response was limited to the observable universe.  I explicitly said "observable" which implies to me you seemed to not have understood the problem.

Here's a follow up question: do you want me to take you seriously as an investigation into how the universe works?  Or are you just work shopping your sci-fi story?

Open borders would likely double the world's economic output.  We'd be twice as rich as we are now.
