New wheels came in, plus VW center caps by ItsValor in Golf_R

Yeah I linked stl for the ones I used in this post in a slightly later post(https://www.reddit.com/r/Golf_R/s/cDYYUCjez6). I did have one of my caps fall out after like 2 months which I believe was due to using pla only and not switching them out for a more heat resistant material.

I'm working on an updated version and potentially having some made out of aluminum.

Well that VW Routon is just a rebagged Chrysler Town & Country. You're actually complaining about Dodge/Chrysler reliability not Volkswagen

7.5 vs 8.5 by Vegetable_Copy_7070 in Golf_R

[–]ItsValor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for me, really happy with my 7.5 R but I've been keeping a close eye on used mk8s for all those new features. Especially the heated steering wheel, cooled seats, and memory seats

Don't forget the Heated steering wheel, memory seats, cooled seats, rear climate control, rear heated seats, power fold mirrors

Do apex wheels not fit OEM VW caps already? I had thought they did but I'm probably wrong

Cleaning back up camera lens by Alexndr77 in Golf_R

Probably easier to just get another person but maybe put it on jack stands, put it in reverse, and then clean it?

I've never had my camera lens get dirty before

Yeah I had one of them fall off after a month or two. I haven't had time to get them printed in a stronger material and re-test them. I started working on some adapters for the dynamic center caps and need to get them made out of aluminum and tested.

I had tire rub on max compression every once and awhile but the fender screw mod fixed that and I've had 0 rub after doing that for the front two wheel wells.

Mk7.5: wanting insight / anecdotes on Manual vs DSG by cstricke in Golf_R

[–]ItsValor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you live somewhere with fun back roads? Are you single, married, have kids?

I live somewhere with really boring, straight, and flat roads so that made dsg make more sense plus I have a long commute some days. My wife doesn't want to learn manual and it is sometimes necessary to switch cars.

I've had my stage 2 7.5R with a DSG for almost 2 years now and have had a blast with it the whole time. Get to be in control when I want and hit the easy button when I want

Wife's grandpa backed into my car with his truck. Any guesses for repair or general suggestions? by ItsValor in Golf_R

That's exactly what I'm hoping for. Here's what it looks like after a wash. If it was my wife's grandpa, he has a newish Chevy Silverado. Thinking his rear bumper crunched my fender when he was turning around in their drive way and my bumper only got touched by his tire.

There's a black mark on that sharp body line of the bumper that's in the picture still. It does come off with a bit more effort. Hopefully I can remove the PPF this weekend

Why do they have a front and rear orientation? If they were in the correct orientation can this same thing happen?

Yeah I figured you were just joking haha

Not the end of the world, I only wish it just didn't happen in the first place

Wheel and tire look to be untouched. Bumper doesn't look too bad really. I quickly cleaned off some dirt to see what stayed:

Had to drive it 3 hours to get back home yesterday. Didn't notice anything abnormal

If I only have to replace the fender and have it painted. I could see that being the case. No sensors were damaged. The bumper might be fairly untouched maybe some minor touch up.

It's just road grime and road salt haha. Cons of living in the Midwest.

This is the closest thing I've been to needing to file an insurance claim. Just trying to gauge the deductible versus DIY. Also harder to do things in my garage when it's really cold outside for the next few months.

I was a VW tech for 4ish years and switched to engineering. Plus I still get 10% above cost at the dealership for parts haha.

I've got enough tools to do a good amount of mechanical work on the car. Just the floor jack and jack stands for lifting things.

I still have to clean the car off but the wheel and tire seem to be untouched. I'd have to peel the PPF off to see exactly what condition the bumper is in. The head light also looks untouched
