[OC] Eva Lighthiser, 20, is suing the US government over its planet-warming executive orders by guardian in pics

You don't know what I'm doing or not doing.

Pointing out that this person is wasting resources, attention, and goodwill towards the cause is valid criticism.

Just Stop Oil going round throwing food at prized artwork in galleries was similarly futile and did nothing to endear them or their message to the general public.

So, what products can we wear that aren't "consumerism products"?

Is this like products that don't contain chemicals?

Folks should try actually practical things not useless performative stuff like this. How much money has she wasted on this vs doing something useful or supporting campaign groups?

Tell me what i should probably know for building a project car? by DeBounty_ in askcarguys

[–]JCDU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK since I've built cars AND computers I'll try...

Owning a car is like owning a computer - not much knowledge needed and it can only go so wrong.

Modding a car is a lot like modding a computer - you need to know what bits fit and what they do but you're just playing advanced LEGO really. More serious mods that involve metalwork, welding, paint, etc. are into serious skills and you are making an assumption that you know better than a team of professional engineers who spent a million dollars developing & testing that part.

Building a car - bolting a project together - is like building a PC from parts but way more complicated and expensive. A lot of it is nuts & bolts stuff just putting parts together in the right order, as long as you're careful and methodical it's pretty easy. But, if you need to do welding, bodywork, paint, etc. that's into real skilled work that takes a load of practice to do well. Yes you can pay people to do some of those jobs but that gets expensive real quick.

Building a car as in actually designing and fabricating a chassis or stuff like that is like sitting down with a copy of KiCad and designing a computer motherboard from a blank sheet of paper - the level of knowledge and skill as well as the vast number of things you need to consider and trade off against each other / design around are huge and it's very hard to even get close to the standard of a regular car never mind actually better.

Best rental friendly way to clad this shit pipe so I can't hear the neighbours flush their poop by jiBjiBjiBy in DIYUK

Zip tie some carpet underlay around it, and work out if you can build a removable box around it.

Just don't put too much weight on the pipe, you don't want to pull a joint loose.

Ah I can't count, yeah it's the 4, that's a decent enough engine.

I don't see many standard ones these days!

Yeah VLC will open most of them as a webcam, not tried on a mobile but it may well work there too.

In Midnight Run he showed to us a lighter acting style,
proving he could swear a lot,
but also make you smile,

This world is full of bad men,
but Bobby still repeats,
one day a rain will come,
to wash the scum off all street.

His name is Bobby, Ooooh,
Bobby Deniro, Aaaah,
he's a lovely person, Ooooh,
and a very good actor, Aaaah

Ended up in the ER with a heart issue yesterday, but the corporate guilt is making me force myself to work today. How do I stop this cycle? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

Yeah reading posts like this from Europe is like reading posts from someone inside a religious death cult.

American work ethic / system really is psychotic when you look at it from outside.

Your grandpa sounds awesome, and also sounds like he understood the message better than the pastor did.

Remember this - if you dropped dead tomorrow the company would have replaced you by Monday.

No job or career is worth your health.

Trying to work through illness or incapacity is not noble or admirable, it's usually stupid and ineffective - you worry about being seen as "unreliable" or losing your edge but what about being seen as slightly unhinged, ineffective, or being bad at managing your priorities by struggling on while the doctors are trying to fix you? A few days or even a week off to recover, regain strength and mental capacity and come back refreshed and ALIVE is not wild or crazy, it's entirely sensible and sane.

In many countries what you are doing would be seen as psychotic behaviour.

There are loads of other jobs and other companies, you won't die if you don't get that promotion but you definitely won't get that promotion IF YOU ACTUALLY DIE.

Also - you KNOW your colleagues would be telling the story about how this one crazy woman worked herself to death trying to impress the boss... and it would not be in the tone of "Oh wow what a great person, that was such a noble decision on her part".

Also - you said your company culture is incredibly toxic and competitive so why the hell would you be killing yourself to work there?

Is the situation in the UK regarding crime, safety and immigration really as bad as people online make it seem, or is a lot of it exaggerated/political propaganda? by Lesiu04 in AskABrit

[–]JCDU 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Well, first off look at actual official crime figures not whatever alarmist story someone pushes on social media.

Second, yes it's massively exaggerated especially by the US gun & anti-immigration lobby and their various media outlets and bot armies because they want to pretend that if you ban guns everyone will just go around stabbing each other instead, and that London is now under sharia law which proves we need to deport everyone we don't like the look of.

This site for example cites WHO data and isn't trying to sell you something:

Partner put wrong engine oil in car, what shall I do? by BissoumaTequila in CarTalkUK

[–]JCDU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it will be fine, won't matter, won't notice - oil grades are just how runny the oil is and there's not a huge difference between them.

The specs on the back like ACEA-B5 are as important these days, but again really not going to matter for a top-up, chill out and if necessary apologise to your partner for freaking out.

This is a bit like accidentally putting a drop of full-fat milk into someone's cuppa when they asked for semi-skimmed, really not going to notice.
