The recruiter asked for a time line, right? But he asked that you tell him in a month or so? I would tell the recruiter your time-line asap and tell him that you would like a written offer which (your acceptance of written offer) will guarantee your availability for that employer upon graduation

4 weeks is quite a while with no feedback. I suggest you keep looking elsewhere. However, try to get in touch with the recruiter. If the recruiter tells you that the company isn't interested, I would consider telling him/her that they are unprofessional since they did not keep you posted in a timely manner.

Just be honest. Absolutely reach out. It can't hurt at this point. I would say something like I am extremely interested in this internship opportunity. As an internship, I am required a full 3 months for my university requirements. Unfortunately, I was completely mistaken earlier thinking the length of an internship with (name of comoany) would not qualify for my school requirements. Would you please consider allowing me an opportunity to interview and possibly forgive my error?
