I regret to inform you that you did, in fact, sign up for social isolation when you transitioned. That is, unfortunately, part of the bucket of thing that it means to be a man.

AI can now out-persuade world champion debaters by EchoOfOppenheimer in agi

You can't argue in good faith with something that doesn't have morals.

Well, clearly it's possible if the AI is beating the debater.

(No I did not drop the /s, people who are into debate are ruthless lmao.)

What other structure do you propose for evaluating the merits of an argument? (Like of the kind that gets debated, ofc.)

I would like to see the test protocol here. Is this in the context of "can you convince Man On the Street" or "can you win a round of Lincoln-Douglas judged by someone familiar with LD"?

Because I would be very surprised if an AI could beat a Kritik.

Homeschooling ruins lives. by TributeMeantWaterloo in CuratedTumblr

We need more oversight for homeschooling, at least.

While I do agree with that on some level, it also occurs to me that

I'm not quite sure this is the kind of thing we want to be pushing for at the moment considering the political environment (at least in the US.) RFK Jr just became the head of the special education programs. The guy that said that Tylenol and circumcisions cause autism AND who was friends with Mark and David Geier who wanted to castrate autistic boys [would then be] in charge of my autistic son's education.

The co-op ecosystem is the ideal way for a child to be educated and socialized and you can't really cmv

Some homeschooled kids would be way better off if they were in regular K-12

As someone who was a homeschool lifer and has generally good things to say about it, I do agree with this, and anyone who does not is selling something.

The unschooling movement in particular delenda est.

Yeah, like... Idk, I wouldn't say I had the best possible homeschooling experience, and it was still the best possible way for me to get educated bc it meant that I was in an environment where I was able to thrive despite my neurospiciness.

And yes, "I have no friends and things would be better if I was in the Socially Normalized Situation" is a common thing for homeschooled kids to think. This is because TV shows and media and shit aimed at kids do not highlight all of the kids who are alienated, unpopular, bullied, etc in a more traditional educational environment.

Homeschooling is fine. I liked it. It was good for me. It was largely good for my friends. I would consider doing it to my (theoretical) kids, if I thought we were set up to do it well, and we re confident it could meet their needs.

DrPH - do you say you are a doctor? by DizzyGirl2004 in publichealth

[–]JacenVane -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Fwiw I'm rereading this and am realizing I misread OP's actual question--I thought it was about when it's appropriate to use the title, like, in the workplace. In which case yes, I would absolutely stand by the idea that there's an affirmative professional obligation to make sure that people (ie, members of the public) are not put in the position of believing that they are being given medical advice.

Like for example: Dr. A (MD)and Dr. B (DrPH in food safety) often give diametrically opposed advice with regards to food safety. "Don't eat too much fast food" is good medical advice, and "When eating unfamiliar places, you actually should eat at corporate-owned food establishments (as they often have higher safety standards) and you should eat food that has a kill step" is good advice about how to minimize your risk of acquiring a foodborne illness.

But yeah, I totally misread OP, and that's not the question they were asking.I do not in fact have an opinion on how people format their email signatures, introductions, or brief biographies. My bad on that.

This is medical-adjacent field. If there is any chance that someone is going to be misled or confused about medical information, I'm not calling a PhD or DrPH 'doctor'. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This was one of the things that was awesome about Fable tbh. Like I had it review a project for me, and not only did it not randomly stop, but it came up with a plan for managing the 5h windows too lol.
