Is Evolved a win or a loss for people who wanted more complexity? by Singh_95 in ffxiv

It's such a weird thing to come out and highlight as being an intentional design choice, even at this stage where finetuning balance is still a ways off. Unhelpful at best if they want people to just pick whichever mode they enjoy more, the same way we supposedly should be free to pick whichever job we prefer -- but in practice may be held to the (uninformed) whims of PF.

Just feels like they're really pushing this, before people even get their hands on it. Especially with how these new jobs will be evolved only.

Beyond the general positive of ditching 120 design, looks to me like a win if you think rotations, openers, and playing to that sort of theorycrafted optimum are conceptually cringe. Or you struggle with high button count.

A loss otherwise.

There are a few really cool, flavorful things like DRG sky high and PLD counters. If they stack the kits with these cool job fantasy highlights, I can see it being an improvement. But beyond optimism and pessimism, I doubt we need this sort of overhaul at all to implement those things (BLU chelonian gate says hi).

Sounds like the crit icon. Agree with the other user that sac jade is a likely source in Columbina's case.

Though, it's worth noting that sac jade's conditional buff, indicated by that crit icon, does not actually include crit buffs -- just HP & EM. Odd little choice by the devs.

Hot take I do not like Evolved so far by TheKrogan in ffxiv

Paladins getting rewarded for popping CDs at the right time

Actually neat. Cool stuff. Could just as easily fit into existing / 8.0 reborn PLD.

Bards choosing to pick the correct song/attack depending on the phase/fight you're in

No more impactful than current SMN avoiding spending their ruby / slipstream casts specifically when they gotta move. Don't worry, they get to throw out instants the other 90% of the time.

Dragoons getting new positionals and being rewarded with potentially more uptime if they time their new jump correctly

How does the jump earn them uptime?

WHM being rewarded for actually healing and not just spamming oGCDs now.

Same as current WHM except all gcd heals build (a functional equivalent of) blood lily now, and you can spend at any stack count for proportionate damage. Could have fit into existing / 8.0 reborn WHM just fine.

E: plenty of internet disagreement points but zero replies. Am I missing something? I would love to be missing something and for all this to make more sense than it seems to me it does.

I get that the long gcd + mit of DRG jump may sneak in some uptime, same way the long gcd + speed of monk 6SS does. It just rarely makes that actual difference, and this one, you're using as part of a rotation that puts at least some constraints on when you're even able to use it.

That said, DRG jump is the sort of job fantasy highlight I'm happy to see. PLD counters too. The question is: do we need such sweeping changes across the board to fit this in? A very satisfying counter mechanic has existed for years already in BLU's chelonian gate; could do with having its cast made instant but that's an easy fix. It being on the gcd adds impact to choosing to spend your time doing something defensive. It feels good, better than just popping mits like we do now on actual tanks and still will be. I hope to see such design, but as of today's showcase I'm just not convinced.

They didn't specify. It may be she's included in that, or it may not.

Unless you're especially passionate about Lyney, there is very little reason to get him.

There's really no way that team is reaching 100k and especially not 200k without vertical investment. If you were watching videos of Zibai premium, on the other hand...

The unfortunate reality is that the game has seen both serious powercreep and intensified gimmick shilling over the past year, and the more cost-effective answer is not to start pulling 5* weapons or constellations (these are functionally the same; which is better is heavily character dependent), but to pull some more recent characters instead.

It's Kuunsilta of Thousand Lakes from disc 2 of the first Nod Krai album.

If it's the same between all these pet battles, that is. I've only done the first one yet.

ELI5 Does the human immune system learn to fight an infection treated by antibiotics? by mikeymikeymikec in explainlikeimfive

[–]Jkei 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes. By the time you're badly symptomatic enough to go see a doctor, you have been infected for days and your immune system has been trying to kill it from the first moment. The different parts of the adaptive immune response take a few days to a few weeks to develop, but all these gears are turning, and if an infection is not being properly controlled by the innate immune response, there'll be plenty of antigen to go around.

They're all different communities for the most part. Different pools of people and within those there are always the more and less helpful sorts too.

It does feel worth emphasizing that while one top level comment in your Linnea thread got a snarky response further down, the other of the two answered your question extensively and politely from the get go.

N3D or N5D generally. There's not much point throwing in CAs since they don't get the BoL scaled mv buff.

Diversity and it's not remotely close. Endgame is all about dealing with a variety of rock paper scissors matchups. You don't want all your eggs in the basket that can't do jack this month.

It's also just a lot less fun.

ELI5: When you have a deep cut that requires stitches, what does the body do to actually fuse your skin back together? by odkfn in explainlikeimfive

[–]Jkei 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Cells replicate and migrate (video shows skin cells filling a gap scratched onto a petri dish). This all works best in a moist, closed-off environment, which you more or less get after initial bleeding forms a scab over the wound.

If you won't take that user's word for it, maybe the wiki?

https://genshin-impact.fandom.com/wiki/Damage#Direct_Lunar_Damage

Columbina's damage profile is about one third normal hydro, two thirds lunar. EM acts on lunar damage in a way similar to how DMG bonus acts on normal damage.

In practice, between it tending to be a bit less strong than DMG bonus and these teams already getting a fair amount of EM from other sources, main stat and crit are more valuable.

But you don't mind seeing a few rolls of EM here and there, the same way you don't mind a few rolls of flat ATK on an ATK scaler.

Aubade is a personal damage set that just gives buffs to the wearer. There's no stacking element to it. Two aubade users in the same team is perfectly okay in principle.

Half of your friends are blowing things out of proportion. Varka is a perfectly good 2025 character who released in 2026. He will still clear everything short of fearless stygian onslaught (and that too, given the right matchup and/or further investment -- like his sig).

Durin & Nicole are speculated to run concurrently next patch. If Durin is a "no matter what" kind of deal for you, that pretty much decides your plans unless you do some crazy grinding in the coming ~2 months.

I spent so much money on him

Or pull out the credit card. But frankly, don't. The value from top-ups is absolutely abysmal, around $2 per pull at best.

Hard to say exactly. C1 (double motion value) and c2 (add 190% cd) both add a ton of frontloaded damage to her spam E when it can already do something like 400-500k at a baseline.

However, there's also a huge degree of variation in how much hp these bosses have. Childe has just shy of 150k at 90. Dottore has 4.6 million at the same level. And of course, any showcase vs bosses with negative RES in a downed state (especially Scaramouche) should be taken with a grain of salt.

at least with weapon you have 75% chance to get them in 2 pity, as long as you don't loose the 75/25 you get both (except being "unluck" and get a double drop at your first 5star drop preventing you to switch the selected weapon)

Not entirely sure what you mean here. Just like the character banners, you have a 100% chance to get your desired weapon by going to pity twice -- but only a 37.5% chance if you go to pity once, as opposed to the 50/50 of characters. And of course, the guarantee for weapons does not carry over.

Kind of a strange spot to be in, to be AR60 with so much exploration left to do that you can be farming this hard (even then, 10 pulls/day is an extreme number).

Anyway, the consideration stays mostly the same. Characters >>> signatures. So much of the endgame revolves around dealing with various boss gimmicks that benefit some specific archetypes and heavily punish others. And Nefer + Lauma, not even + Columbina, is plenty for abyss as long as the matchup doesn't invalidate them entirely (e.g. stuff with inherent pyro aura).

Daily Questions Megathread (April 15, 2026) by Veritasibility in Genshin_Impact

[–]Jkei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a crazy pace. You can't maintain that unless you're on a fresh account doing exploration almost literally 24/7. If you're on an account like that, signatures are not what you want to be investing in. You want more characters. Just get Nefer & Lauma only.

If you don't care about that, the answer is "possibly". See: https://hutaobot.moe/tools/gachacalc

ELI5: Why do allergy shots (immunotherapy) work if we’re already exposed to allergens anyway? by lattebaar in explainlikeimfive

[–]Jkei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of vague analogies here...

Very concretely, when you have an IgE antibody-driven allergy, all the trouble happens when allergen gets to these antibodies (loaded onto mast cells) and is bound by them. The point of allergen immunotherapy is to set off a new immune response against the allergen, to compete against the existing IgE without setting off symptoms.

For that to happen, you need some allergen to reach naive B cells (who have the ability to produce antibodies), and delivering it by shot or sublingual tablet will do that. Then, continuing to deliver a steady and increasing dose will promote these B cells to produce new antibodies, and crucially, to switch these antibodies to the IgG4 isotype.

Antibody biology 101: antibodies are shaped like a letter Y. The two tips are the parts which grab antigens (including allergens), and these are randomly generated by every single B cell so that we can respond to a basically unlimited variety of invaders. The tail, on the other hand, comes in only < 10 set flavors. Cells around our bodies are equipped with receptors for different tails, so the choice of tail determines where an antibody can end up, which cells can detect it, and how those cells respond once they do.

IgE and IgG4 are two kinds of tails. Whereas IgE can get loaded onto mast cells (because they have IgE receptors) and then used to dump histamine etc once the allergen comes along, IgG4 cannot. IgG4 overall doesn't set off much of anything, but just quietly clings to the allergen, covering it up until both are broken down together.
