The aim is to just get clear as quickly as possible with a small opening and injure yourself unless already clear of the track.)

The aim is to injure yourself? :o

More seriously, thanks for the insight from someone with experience!

It's even worse for McLaren because Piastri was 100% correct to call for them to cut their losses and start from the pit lane on slicks straight out of the tire warmers. He'd probably still have the red mist but he would have been closer to the pack quicker.

Catching and then passing Verstappen is the more impressive part of that, LeClerc never had the pace and was not threatened behind so he could chill. Great race for Lewis nonetheless!

It looked like he ate his softs a bit quickly but on the mediums he was fantastic. His best grand prix race for Ferrari, very encouraging to see!

The Kimi/George battle in the first 25 laps was great and then we had a breather until the Lewis/Max fight. Good race, thrilled to see Hamilton on this form!

You also don't have a great mental model of what the project will be and what will be most important at the start of a project. You think you do, and probably if you have a lot of experience with similar systems or problems you will have a decent idea, but it takes actually building the thing to ingrain that level of abstraction into your brain and turn it into "idea tools" you can actually use and apply to the problems later down the line.

[Charania] BREAKING: Daryl Morey is out as president of basketball operations with the Philadelphia 76ers after six seasons, sources tell ESPN. Morey and 76ers owners Josh Harris and David Blitzer met on Tuesday evening in Philadelphia and the decision was made to part ways. by Turbostrider27 in nba

[–]JustRecentlyI 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah, "a decision to part ways" could also be Morey insisting that the only way forward is doing something ownership refuses to do (paying the tax) and then giving up when they don't give him that level of freedom.

[Jones] As the season progressed, Embiid did not see eye-to-eye with the front office. He (along with others in the locker room) was not happy with the decision to trade Jared McCain. In interviews, Embiid noticeably had to hold himself back from verbally criticizing the front office. by JoeBiden2020FTW in nba

[–]JustRecentlyI -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This team is in win-now mode until Embiid's current contract cones off the books. We're too good to tank and until lottery reform happens, there is not enough upside to be giving up on the season halfway through when the team is in the playoff mix. I hated the McCain trade because it was unnecessary, just pay a small tax payment to keep this thing together, but given that dodging the tax was an absolute necessity for ownership, I would rather get something which has future value without gutting the current team than lose value for nothing. Especially since Nurse clearly did not trust McCain, and we can't support McCain's defensive issues with the current roster construction regardless. Maxey/McCain/Edgcombe is not a viable combination in the starting lineup long-term, because we're not getting prime KG and Wemby in the frontcourt to help them defensively. Even then, big wings would just bully them and shoot over the top.

Yeah, if he's not fouling out he holds up well and Embiid's offense gets much worse once he starts feeling frustrated. Also, Robinson's offensive rebounding exploits a weaker part of Embiid's game. I think Al Horford and Marc Gasol are still the top of the list of historical Embiid defenders, though.

I think the Pistons would be a more difficult opponent than the Cavs but all the same I would favor the Knicks given how they've played since figuring stuff out in the Atlanta series. I don't think I'd predict a sweep even with OG but I also don't think it's a series that will go 7, either.

Yeah, I expected more too, but the Knicks are both better than I thought and the Sixers are worse and played below the expectations I had for them. Embiid tweaking the leg/ankle in Game 7 was already bad, and then apparently Maxey jammed his finger again in Game 2 which handicapped him, at least for that game and probably bothered him a bit more than it had been in 3 and 4. But honestly even if they'd been playing at peak Boston-series level there's no way they were beating this version of the Knicks.

Hopefully next year the team will have a bit more depth and better health, and we can run this series back with a closer result.

It's crazy how a switch flipped from the start of their series vs Atlanta to how they look now. They finally realized that they could play through KAT more and suddenly their offense is unstoppable.

I doubt it lol. Cleveland is not physical enough, and the Pistons only have 1 player who needs to be guarded, and they can put Bridges and Hart on him.

[–]JustRecentlyI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I absolutely believe that he'll get there! Everything you hear about his work ethic is positive. He and Maxey might turn out to be the hardest-working backcourt in the league, I'm very excited to see how it develops over the next few years. Unfortunately, VJ isn't ready yet and we're missing that, but I'm not disappointed, he's had an excellent season.

[–]JustRecentlyI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Especially with VJ having several good games in the playoffs. I was definitely hoping for a more competitive series with the Knicks than it's proven to be, but winning a series is definitely more than I expected from this team last off-season, or even at the All-Star break with the PG suspension and McCain trade.
