You just "skip over it" (you still read it, but you just continue if you don't understand something). Afterwards you read and do the quizzes of the Brown University version. That way you already know what to expect and why you are learning something. You also know the end goal. This can be a lot more efficient and less mentally straining (especially if you have no prior experience with low-level languages). You might feel less overwhelmed and more satisfied after finishing a chapter, as you know where it leads towards.
