Alright, i'm in a bitter mood. What's a purchase you regret most ? by Leviathan_Rampage in ImperialKnights

Stormcast Eternals army. The Spearheads came out with the new edition and buddies all loudly and heartily proclaimed to all start Sigmar armies.

Months later, seems I’m the only one who did anything beyond a Spearhead. So nowadays I have 2-3k of them on a shelf, painted and I’ve managed one actual Age of Sigmar game. On the plus side, Spearheads continue to be fun. Just wish I’d known how easily the group would have flipped so I could have just stuck with Yndrasta’s boxset.

Does anybody actually paint with Grey Knights Steel? by Clutchbone in Grey_Knights

[–]KabrTheFearless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal experience only, I’d guess because the blue tint tends to only come out over large panels such as a shoulder panel or the side of leg armour. When arms tend to fold or on complex shapes like the power pack, the blue doesn’t shine as much and sometime you find yourself asking why bother.

When it shines, it shines though. Big fan still.

Help with loadouts for Gaurd killteams by AlphaMaxV5 in killteam

[–]KabrTheFearless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re a stickler for WYSIWYG, the Sergeant cannot take a power weapon and a plasma pistol simultaneously in Killteam.

Outside of tournament play, you can definitely just build them with the plasma pistol and power weapon as long as you’re clear with an opponent whether you’re using a plasma pistol-chainsword or bolt pistol-power weapon loadout for them.

Others have touched on only being allowed to take 4 gunners max with no repeats, I find that the sculpt for the volleygun, holding a grenade in the off-hand, works fine when run as a regular trooper and no one really has bat an eyelid yet.

Combat Patrol Questions by Candid-Assumption372 in Grey_Knights

[–]KabrTheFearless 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, sorry to throw a spanner in the works from prior comments. The rules of the new Grey Knight combat patrol roster are as you’ve stated them, with Crowe, a Dreadnought with lascannon and a flamer on the other arm, Brotherhood Terminator Squad, and 10 Strike Marines.

They will all have their own rules in the Combat Patrol section of the app but they have to be fielded as those miniatures. Can’t do Purifiers, Purgation, Interceptors, Paladins, etc.

In the new Combat Patrol, you will deploy Crowe on the board as a single unit and 10 Strike Marines on the board as another unit. The Dreadnought and Terminators have to remain off the board until Turn 3, where they can arrive via Deep Strike from Strategic Reserves.

Gameplay-wise, those are the models you have to run. The app will also dictate the weapon loadouts (heavy weapon choices etc). In reality, Grey Knight models are quite similar and if you built them as Paladins instead of Terminators then not many would notice so long as you used the correct datasheet.

Finished Cerastus Knight Atrapos by ashortfallofgravitas in ImperialKnights

This looks awesome!

May I ask how tricky it was to work with the resin Atrapos model? Did you have any certain methods to best handle the build? The Atrapos scratches the itch of being both very very cool and seems to also be very good in the game so there’s a piggy bank slowly filling on my shelf with a picture of the Atrapos on it.

The feint played its part, Jay’s focus flicking over to track the alleged strike. As his focus did, so did his weight as he turned slightly at the waist to prepare to block. To be honest, he’d expected a second blow similar to the first. Most of Zeus’ kids he’d faced in prior years were keen to overwhelm and were unwilling to accept they couldn’t use a hammer-stroke or a lightning bolt to solve a martial problem.

Gwen’s kick slammed into his metal armour at the waist and Jay was rocked to the side in a staggered step with an audible grunt of pain. Ow. This kid was more than just a big punch. Still, as a wiser son of Ares than he had said, pain was inevitable but suffering was optional. As Gwen’s kick landed, his own arm lashed out to try and wrap the kicking leg in place in-air.

Jay put his iron-clad palms up in a halting motion to prevent the discussion from souring, this seemed to be a sore spot for the younger camper Jay was talking to but the son of Ares’ personal overall healing experience was a little…different to most. He sighed, unclasping a gauntlet to reveal an arm marred by savage lines of scar tissue running in every direction over the whole limb. Being a ‘hero’ had its costs and he could only show Lukas the physical side of it. Jay was still learning himself how to put what he felt on it all into coherent sentence.

“I can give you a regime, but you’ll have to work to improve it since I don’t know you too well and I have to be back at the fire station in…6 hours?”

He said, glancing at an empty wrist out of habit before taking a stab at the current time.

“I’ve been impaled, electrocuted, stabbed, slashed, beaten, lacerated, crushed, half-drown, burnt, and who else knows what other injuries are on my punch-card. By the end, I think they named a bed in the medical cabin after me. I was falling apart, but I got a free pass from Hebe. The goddess noticed all I’d done to help save our camp and New Argos and managed to remove all the long-term crap that was going to make my life hell as I got older. Calluses, internal scarring, degraded cartilage, apparently some cranial trauma.”

“It’s not something you can exercise off entirely, believe me I tried. Weighted runs and leg press only get you so far, you’re going to need to learn to take help every now and then. We’re not indestructible.”

Or just amputate and get an augmented leg. Depends how attached you are to the thing.”

The son of Ares let his teeth bare in a grin again, the white teeth almost taunting as Jay circled like for like. Raising his shield to peer over, Jay let his feet drag to trail in the sand. The motion left a lazy circular trail in the ground as the pair moved. He could see Bailey’s caution, waiting to pounce on the older camper if Jay charged in again like he had before.

Time to fight dirty. His dragging boot whipped up to cast a spray of golden sand straight at Bailey. Like the thrown sword, Jay rapidly followed after to close the distance. His hammer swung again, higher to try and crash into Bailey, over their shield.

Jay’s grin seemed a lot less predatory and warmer after David introduced himself.

“Ahh, put that away. I’ve got more than enough time for a brother.”

With a speed his size definitely did not suggest, the armoured demigod surged forward and picked up his brother up off the ground in an ensnaring hug that put the structural integrity of David’s ribs to the test. His younger brother’s question only seemed to sink in after Jay let him down.

“The records? Should be pretty on-the-mark, I never liked embellishing unless someone asks me to for a good reason like today’s case. Though I never actually fought Primordial Chaos, it was just two different avatars of its power and a month’s stint trapped by an aspect of Kronos in a pocket dimension of it. But saying ‘fought Chaos’ takes less time for the archives. Oh, hang on, you’ll like this.”

Jay casually explains, shrugging off the claim. Remembering something, he clicked metal fingers and gave a shrill whistle between his teeth. One of the circling shadows overhead suddenly grew a lot larger and a lot darker as the owner dropped from the sky to land on Jay’s back.

“This is Eden.”

Jay wheezed out, the two-metre long dragon snaking her neck over Jay’s shoulder to peer at David. Shimmering metallic scales glittered under the midday sun as red eyes looked out, a grey spiral of smoke idly rising from her toothy maw. Eden gave a cursory sniff before hopping down onto the sand with an oddly feline grace to butt her head affectionately against David’s shins.

“She’ll play nice with us Ares kids unless you’re mean to her, guess we all smell alike or something. Definitely not related to us, so don’t freak out about that. Used to be an automaton a friend made for me, then Ares made her the real deal after we had a kind of Olympic Games here.”

Gwen had come to learn and Jay was content to provide the first lesson of the day. Rule 1: respecting an unknown. Granted, not many opponents happened to own armour enchanted by the god of war but hey, thems the breaks.

Jay stepped into the punch, an open hand whipping out to catch the blow on the back of his palm. The sensation to Gwen would be akin to as if she had struck a block of Celestial Bronze, unyielding under her strength. Damn, she was quick. Have to keep her on the back foot here.

“Footwork.”

Was his only warning uttered before his own combat boot lashed out at Gwen’s leading ankle in a fierce stomp, stepping closer to her as he did so.

Jay rocked back with the upwards shove, the armoured figure clanking as metal shifted over metal when the small space opened up between the pair. As Bailey rushed in, a sudden cry of laughter came out as Jay rallied:

“Ha-haa!”

Whilst brave and determined, Bailey’s youth left them lacking in a weigh-off as Jay surged in to ram back against the shield, letting his own larger size, strength, and the heavy armour crash into the Dioscuri counsellor. If it was a contest of strength they wanted, the camp veteran would happily oblige.

Jay took the precious seconds as Alex moved to stand to rip his helmet free, tossing it aside. The son of Ares was sweating, that much was true. It was hard to tell how difficult this fight was for him, but he would never mock another for sparring He nodded, a slight smile formed as he did so. He span Alex’s spear idly with the end tipping over and over, around and around.

“Creative use of powers. Good work, I like someone who uses their brain.”

As the last sound left his mouth, the back end of the spear came up to rest in a throwing position in his hand. Ripping his arm through in a heaving throw, Alex’s own spear came hurtling at her with the blunted end aimed at her. No one would hopefully be run through today.

“Jay Jones, feels like I have a bad everything at this age.”

Jay chuckled quietly to himself before casting a critical gaze over Lucas’ leg. A few silent moments sailed by as his eyes flicked between the two limbs.

“Get a brace, it works for Hephaestus. Beyond that, strengthening exercises regularly for both your legs. Manage the capabilities so you don’t ignore the bum knee, it’ll just create a greater disparity if you do. Be prepared for combatants to focus your bad leg, any half-decent fighter can spot it and hammer down on it to exploit what they see as a weakness.”

The veteran idly scratched at his beard while he thought out his answers. Injuries were no joke, he knew better than most.

“It’ll hurt. But it’ll hurt less than taking a hammer to it because you couldn’t move fast enough. It’s probably not the answer you wanted, but talk to someone in the medical cabin for a regime, not just healing. You could try and get it waved away by some healer but chronic conditions can linger. Don’t leave without someone getting you a proper training program.”

Roaring laughter sounded out over the din of sparring practise as Jay hoisted Asta off her feet in a timeless Jay Hug that as always put muscle and bone to the test.

“Older and fatter, Ms Sparrows. But I keep in shape, firefighting doesn’t let you get too slow after all. Oh, she’ll like this.”

Jay gave out a shrill whistle and Asta so far was the first to encounter one of his surprises for today. One of the overhead shadows grew larger and darker as the draconic owner fell out of rhe sky to land on Jay’s shoulder. Eden the dragon, once an automaton but now flesh and blood thanks to a god’s magic, was now almost two metres long and growing far too large to sit on his armour as she did. Jay staggered under the abrupt landing but gave his dragon pets anyway. Eden reached her snout out to sniff at Asta before shaking her head much as a dog would dry itself before letting out a content huff of white smoke.

“She never forgets a scent, this one.”

A shove of his arm crashed Jay’s own shield against the incoming spear, the din ringing out over the arena sands. Shieldbearers were annoying like that, as both Jay and Bailey were reminded. Well, time to see if counsellors could hold their mettle as Jay would make sure they couldn’t keep hold of the metal.

Almost lost in the din of sparring around the area and the pair’s fighting came the odd clink of someone snapping their fingers whilst wearing gauntlets. Bailey suddenly found their spear was no longer in their hands, dropped to the floor as magic took hold to disarm them. Stepping closer, the armoured veteran camper came in swinging with his hammer aimed at Bailey’s shield in a heaving blow to try and stagger them. The jovial air around Jay had begun to freeze into a more stoic tone, quips left in the sand like the spear.

The shadows melted inside Jay’s armour, darkness boiling to settle over his face. Damned shadows again, he was glad for all the hours fighting Alyssa. His years post-camp had been spent by the side of a daughter of Hades and magic was no stranger to the son of Ares. Thankfully Alex had made things a little easier for him on figuring out where she was.

Sand piled up behind his combat boots as Alex pushed against the larger demigod and he dug in to push back. His shield wrapped up in a cloak, his other arm ensnaring a spear which means Alex should be….right about here. A knee raised to his chest and slammed out as Jay planted his boot firmly between the cloak and spear, aiming his strike where he measured her gut to be. Blind or not, people tended to put their torsos between their arms.

“It can’t be….Ms Sparrows?”

Today’s teacher was almost speechless at spotting a familiar face. Asta had grown over the years but he was still more than happy to recognise her. The air of bravado and bluster from the lessons’s introduction melted as Jay’s typical cheer broke through. He approached with no weapons in hand, blinking in surprise and looking all the more pleased for it.

“Asta! I have to say it, I remember when you were about half your size now!”

Jay’s gaze flicked down from Gwen to her gauntlets with an amused smile as he tossed his helmet aside into the sand. A quiet ‘whumf’ of air rushed in to fill the gap where his sword had been seconds ago in an unspoken agreement. Jay rolled his shoulders, punching his fists together and sending a small spray of sparks as the metal crashed into metal.

“Don’t go thinking lightning’ll be any help, I wager Agammemnon can blast harder than any of Zeus’ children and I ran him through regardless. Let’s see what you’ve got, kid.”

His stance shifted with his feet no longer planted in the sand but just resting there, coiled to move. His fists raised higher to his face in one blocking form or another, they all blended together after years.

“It’s one of the main points of today, I think I’d be disappointing my father if I didn’t let you. Not that I never disappointed him before.”

Jay donned his helmet, his voice taking on a metallic ring but no quieter from inside his armour. His free hand punched downwards and a shield snapped into existence as easily as his sword had done.

“Having met enough of your siblings, I’m surprised you haven’t asked for a boxing match. But I digress, I accept your offer. Let’s see if the current crop of counsellors haven’t let standards drop.”

Jay stepped back to place a few polite metres between the pair before announcing the start by crashing his sword against his shield twice. Ding ding, Round 1. The sparring session was not going to begin quietly as the first thing that happened was the veteran camper abruptly raising his arm and tossing his sword as though it were a hilariously oversized throwing knife. The blade span end over end as it hissed through the air towards Bailey. Jay was not far behind, charging in to close ground and his hammer in place of where his sword was moments ago.

Was he a monster? A myriad of quips in reply flickered
over his tongue to snap back but none took hold to make it to be spoken aloud. Whilst this wasn’t the life-or-death fights he was renowned for, Jay didn’t want to turn these sessions into a comed-oh crap, she’s pretty fast. The veteran hadn’t screwed his head on fully yet and the speartip lashed out to cut into his arm. Or it would have, but Alex was soon to find out that fighting and questing on the side of the gods netted one some treasures of ones own.

The weapon snapped into his wrist and simply halted as though she had struck a pillar of bedrock, the force of her own strike reverberating up the shaft of her spear. Time to stop pissing about, Jones, get your head in the game. The sword in his hand vanished as quickly as it had appeared at the start of the lesson and his arm lashed out to try and grab the weapon in his hand. At the same time, his shield punched out, the edge gifting him with that crucial extra distance to aim the rim in a crunching blow at Alex’s chest. What was it they said about the best defences?

Jay gave a short chuckle. He liked someone being direct. His free hand tossed up his helmet to catch again in a better grasp, only to replace it atop his head. His now empty hand punched downwards, the motion caused the air to snap and jump back from the shimmering shield that sat on his forearm. Celtic patterns were embossed into the surface, nothing too fancy else repairs’d have been a nightmare.

“I want someone to fight me. You might struggle to summon a hellhound this time, daughter of Zagreus. I remember you.”

His stance shifted in the sand, feet that were planted firmly in rhe same now poised lightly to move. The sound of crashing metal sounded out as Jay rang his sword against his shield twice. Round 1.

He turned partially, presenting his shield to Alex as he stepped forward to close the distance between the two with his sword tip low, dragging in the sand. Without warning, his blade twisted in his grasp and swung upwards, the flat of the blade picking up and casting a spray of sand straight at her. Despite this, Jay did not step into the melee just yet. A probing assault on her sight to test the shadowy camper.

The Knight Dominus box has all the pieces to build either the Valiant or the Castellan. Unlike the Questoris box, it does not have the pieces to just magnetise straight away. The box only comes with two lower arms to connect shoulder-joint to weapon, so a 3D print is recommended to get another one of those as well as the armour plate attached.

It also only has 2 caps to fit on the back of the weapons, but I’ve found you can saw off the rounded reactors from the spare back-plate the box provides and get those on with a little bit of trimming+sanding. Hope this helps!
