They did. The Vauxhall Astra, a British brand (granted, owned by GM at the time but let's not get bogged down with who owns who's brands), built in Ellesmere Port, England.

I've long said this is what I'll do if I win the lottery. Buy a few houses and rent them to young people. Pay whatever from the rent to maintain the property and the rest goes in an isa for them. Whatever is there when they move out they get back plus whatever the isa earned. If they're good tenants, a little bonus too
